He was confused as to the reasoning behind his shock at her agreeing to him helping her swim. He hadn’t realized it but he had already been poised for rejection. Getting over one’s fears was no easy feat; many would prefer to back out instead of face them head on. He couldn’t help but to feel a sliver of admiration for the gentle white mare. When he had been a foal he had been afraid to fly, rather, afraid to come plummeting back to the earth. For this reason he had learned more slowly than his siblings and had disappointed his wondrous father. Shaking the thoughts from his mind he watched as she made her way closer and closer to the deeper waters. Giving her a reassuring smile he softened his tone so it was no longer gruff but encouraging. “That’s it, you’ve got it.” Taking a few steps forward he placed himself directly in front of her. “How much do you know already Primrose?”

With a small nervous chuckle she looked at the water which was now slowly making it's way over her back. "Barely anything really... Like I said, Mother wasn't very keep on the ocean so she really never taught us to swim. Though we did often play in the pond that was in the herd lands. It wasn't too deep but it was deep enough for us to splash in.. It had a deep end we were warned not to get into..." She lifted up and leg and put it down watching the murky water become even murkier as the silt on the lake floor was kicked up.

A chuckle rumbled through his chest and he smiled happily at her. “So from the beginning huh?” Taking a momentary pause he attempted to remember how exactly he had learned to swim. Once one understood the concept which followed was pretty simple. Even so, he would make sure to be by her side every step of the way. She trusted him and as such he felt it his duty to make sure no harm came to his first friend of these lands. With a nod more for himself than for Briallan he turned his gaze back upon her. “Alright Primrose, I promise I will not let anything happen to you alright? I am sure your mother would seek vengeance if I did anyways.” He finished with a rather nervous laugh. Taking some backwards steps he allowed the water to nearly reach his jowls. Lifting his nose a bit so he could breathe he angled his head so he was looking at her from his side. “First let us get you comfortable with the depths alright?” He asked gently. “Come to me.”

She looked at how deep in the water he was and a flash of the thought to flee seemed to pass over her face before it was gone once more. He jaw had set into a stubborn line as she slowly inched herself out further. One thing was certain about her she'd gotten her mothers determination. She just didn't see herself as much of a leader. In that sense.. she was like her father. Not a fighter, timid of others seeking out leadership through her.

He took note of the unusual expression that vanished from her face as quickly as it had appeared. That slight unease made his stomach bunch up and his protective instincts kick into overdrive. He was about to tell her not to push herself when pure courage appeared in her demeanor. He would not tell her to give up now, not with such persistence within her. What kind of a friend would he be if he told her to quit before it all began? “That’s it.” He cooed. Once she reached him he flashed her a smile full of pride and confidence. “Look at you Primrose! You are doing wonderfully!” With a momentary pause for thought he launched into the best explanation he could come up with. “Alright, so swimming is exactly like running only it is underwater. You will need to simultaneously kick your legs as though running in order to keep above the surface. At this moment I merely want you to hop up and act like you are running to see how well we can maintain keeping you a float.” Emulating what he was saying he kicked off the bottom and gently began moving his legs so his head was further out of the water as he swam in place. “Like this.” He added.

She watched him swim and thought long and hard, working out what he'd said in her mind before giving a slight nod and then she kicked off from the bottom. It was difficult at first, she failed and it only made her wish to try harder. She kicked off again, kicking her legs furiously. She finally succeeded in staying afloat long enough to actually start to swim. "Like his?" She seemed relieved that she was swimming in place if only short lived before she finally lost her tempo with her legs and sank down once more.

He nodded approvingly. “That is great.” He then began to ponder what her next move would be. Turning around he tested the depth of the water behind him and noticed it hadn’t dropped off much from where he had been previously standing. “Alright, I want you to do the same thing but propel yourself forward and swim in a circle using me as the center point.” He positioned himself where she could still touch even if she were to lose her coordination.

Nodding, she kicked off the bottom once more and kicked her legs. For a moment she couldn't get herself to move. Further attempts gave way to her slowly and finally swimming around him in a circled shape before stopping before him once more. "It's harder than I'd first guessed...." She chuckled softly. Amazing how something seemed so simple but could make you guess again after trying it. "But, I did it!" She gave way to a few giggles, sinking down into the water which caused her to have to stop her giggling in order to keep afloat.

After a few tries, and determination, she was able to complete the task he had given her. “Look at you go! You’re a natural!” He laughed. He honestly hadn’t ever thought he would be able to teach anything to anyone but on this day one little mare had proven him wrong. “Nothing is easy but as you have shown determination will see us through.” He flinched once she sunk but relaxed when she caught herself. “Easy there.” He said gently.

She offered a small smile before turning and swimming off perpendicular to the shore. This really wasn't as bad as her mother had made it out to be. Surely her mother had just been too stubborn to get over her fear. "Com on, lets find something to do." She called out not bothering to look back as she swam off, mane trailing behind her in the water.

Her confidence and sudden ease at the new task she had completed made him feel good. He had helped her to accomplish this, even if it was only a small help. He hardly noticed when she had swam off and found himself sloshing about in order to catch up with her. “What did you have in mind? We haven’t even discovered one of those demon fish you were talking about.” Finally coming abreast with her he followed her lead. “Anymore myths or horror stories you wish to chase Primrose?” He asked sarcastically.

"Well as I gather that these fish types are just a myth.. lets see if we can find any butterflies! I once heard a story about a tiny little mare with wings like a butterfly.. As you have wings like a bird i figure maybe it's not such a far fetched idea rather than just a bed time story to tell young foals?" She eventually waded out of the water and shook off the remaining water on the bank of the lake. She couldn't help but to chuckle some. It seemed this day they would chase fairy tales galore. Did he know of any to chase after?

Luckily he had begun wading through the water when her latest outburst caught him by surprise. Stopping in his tracks and looking at her with a quirked eyebrow he inhaled deeply. “You’re serious aren’t you?” Finally coming fully out of the water he stepped away from her and shook off, extending his wings and allowing the breeze to blow through his waterlogged feathers. “Who comes up with these things?” His own curiosity as to the existence of these creatures would remain a secret so, resigned; he shook his head and grinned. “Well, I suppose it is your lead again.”

"Hmm... where's the best place to seek out butterflies then?" She thought some, water still dripping from her mane here and there. "I got it! The open lands!." She gave and small giggle then gave a small sigh. "Well.. we could return to the one that's near the herd.. or we could look for another open area.. I vote the later of the two. We search for a new one!" Laughing, she set off to find some more open ares in which they might find butterflies.

Her enthusiasm made it hard for his usual exasperation to shine through; she seemed entirely in to looking for these things of unknown origin. His father hadn’t ever told him anything about this kind of thing, perhaps he just didn’t care or didn’t even wish to make the time. Horses with fins and the ability to breathe underwater, horses the size of butterflies? Where did she ever come up with this stuff? Shrugging it off he allowed her to find the answers to her own questions before laughing at her conclusion. Adventurous and energetic were definitely the words he would use to describe this mare. “Alright, finding a new one it is. Now, since you are the expert, how do you suppose we go about capturing this thing without killing it?”
