"Ah, another - excellent!" Nonus said, smiling earnestly and standing and extending his hand to shake Nika's. "Ah, let's see, a summary... uh, my daughter's been kidnapped by the entire city of Thapsus and I'm hiring you to get her back. These two can fill you in on the details, if the job's accepted. Let's see... Oh, this will push my budget, but I can afford to give you as much as they're getting... $2000, half now, half on the safe return of my daughter. Go ahead, sit down. We shouldn't be much longer. Oh, I'd buy you all drinks but you don't really want to drink what they serve here.
"Uh, where was I?" Nonus murmured, not sitting down. It came to him. "Ah - yes. Look, I know it's a tough job but I'm paying you more than half a year's salary for one job. It shouldn't take half a year, so you're still pulling a very good profit. You might even be able to get out of the lifestyle, you know - get another job, if you liked. Or you could feed this one," Nonus added, suddenly acutely aware that they might take offense to the idea that they should want to get out of the private eye business.

Outside the bar, Specter lifted her head and sniffed curiously at the serval as it approached and retreated. She didn't raise her hackles - hamstringing a two-legged, toddling sack of bones was one thing. Engaging mano-a-mano versus a trained hunter accustomed to solitary kills rather than pack tactics was another thing entirely. She laid her head back down. Master would call when she was needed.
Back inside, Claudius met the newcomer's eyes easily, watching them carefully for a while. He made no move to greet her, and nor did he say anything. He simply looked at those eyes, and then allowed his gaze to back out, to the bigger picture. A happy-go-lucky floozy. A nice piece of a**, too. At least she and Felix would keep one another occupied. Back to the matter at hand.
There was really nothing to be said. Claudius had gathered information before; it wasn't his specialty, but he knew how to squeeze blood from a rock. It was time to get paid and go. "So are we starting now, then?" He put his hand on the table, waiting for money to be laid in it.

Felix looked away as Nonus continued trying to convince them. It was a lot of money, there was no doubt about that. He could probably finance a large number of missions for his team, allowing them to generate even more revenue and fame. Still, he knew this would be a highly dangerous mission, and he wasn't exactly excited to put himself in the thick of it. Missions like there were the ones that people talked about because private eyes got themselves killed doing them.
Still...Felix was very skilled at getting information out of people, and this was probably the best opportunity to test that. He wanted to get better, to keep improving, and turning down an opportunity like this was counterproductive to that end. Try as he might to fight it, he knew in the end that he would be going with Claudius.
He placed his hand on the table as well and refused to speak.

As long as I know I'm getting paid In this life that matters more than death I follow to my dying breath And whatever crap you may decree As long as I know you're paying me Nika Servius
Nika paid no mind to the two that 'sized' her up. It was something she was used to and it hardly bothered her anymore. Plus, she wasn't exactly discouraging it either. No, she was wearing a skirt, saving her only pair of shorts for later. Her top had been recently untied so it wouldn't show her midriff anymore, but that wouldn't last long. It was hot. Her hair was up off her back, of course. There was rarely a time when it wasn't.
She gave a small smile to the man who stood up and extended his hand for her to shake. He was the one who sent out the ad. She shook his hand, observing the worry lines etched into his face. She had seen those plenty of times before. Listening to the summary, her face hardened a bit. His daughter had been kidnapped. With that statement, her mind went back to the time when her sister was missing. She knew how much it had hurt her father. She grabbed an empty chair from a nearby table and pulled it over, sitting on it backwards, arms resting across the back.
There was no way she'd be ignoring this job now. No, she had been drawn there for a reason. Ah, adding her was stretching his budget. Well, there was a possible solution to that. "If I'm stretching the budget too badly, you can replace some of my payment with some gramophone records...That is, if you have any....I'm somewhat of a collector." She explained, hoping this could help.
Her attention was snagged by the man with the eyepatch. Impatient, wasn't he? Already sticking his hand out for the money. She refrained from rolling her eyes at the action. Then, the other one too. Personally, she thought it was just rude. If she was going to be working with them, she wouldn't want there to be any distraction from the goal at hand. So, she did her best to ignore their open and waiting hands.
Outside, Emris had spotted the lone canine, but knew better than to go after it. No, he hunted outside of towns, not within them, knowing the danger. Plus, he wasn't hungry. So, the Serval just made his way into a secluded spot where no one would bother him. That's the way I want to be saved As long as I know I'm getting paid Whatever my word is worth in trade As long as I know I'm getting paid As long as I know I'm getting paid

Nonus seemed surprised by Nika's offer. "Oh, well, miss, if you'd like it that way I can provide. I have a few I picked up a while ago. They don't sell many recordings out here, now do they...? Uh, I can show you the collection. It can be part of your final payment, we can... determine amounts then. For now..." He reached into his jacket pocket and drew out thick bundle of money. "I was hoping for three or four, so I brought the money for it. Here you are," he said, handing them the dollar bills, stacked and bound neatly. Stacks of hundreds smiled pleasantly up at them with the face of Benjamin Franklin, though they likely wouldn't have great cause to remember his name. America was a long time ago, and they'd never seen it.
"That's all I have for you," Nonus confessed. "Thank you so much for doing this for me."

Felix took his share of the money and thumbed it; all good. Snapping it once against his hand, Felix nodded and smiled at Nonus. "Thanks, mate," he said, opening up his messenger bag and depositing the wrapped stack of money inside. "You shouldn't walk around with that much money, though. If I had known you were that stacked, I would have killed you before you walked in, instead of waiting all this time." His smile and his cheerful tone never wavered though; he was simply stating a fact of life.
"But now we're a bit past that. I'm a professional, and I've been paid. Consider this mission on, yeah?" He asked the last of Claudius, nudging his now-comrade lightly with his elbow.

Nika took the stack of money gingerly. She wasn't in a hurry to get it, unlike the other two. Insensitive brutes. However, she placed it carefully inside her satchel. While she was doing so, she listened to the words that were being spoken. The younger two of the men was going on about how if he had known that Nonus had had that much money on his person, he would have killed him...blah blah blah. Seriously, was there anything on his mind other than money? Sheesh. She couldn't refrain from rolling her eyes at him.
Oh, and now he was going to act as if she didn't exist. Fine by her. It wasn't like Nika wasn't used to it, being a female and all. Go ahead, be all buddy-buddy with the old guy. She took a deep breath to calm down a bit before turning her attention back to Nonus. "No problem...I'll do my best to find your daughter...." She confirmed with a small smile. "Now, boys, are we gonna get going, or do you plan on sittin in here all day?" She asked with a small smirk. Time to get busy.

((1: sorry about the absence. 2: Bayer, lemme know if I can't have a chopper or if I need to explain its presence and I'll edit accordingly biggrin 3: should OoC be in some other thread?))
Claudius eyed the money suspiciously as he took his share, as though concerned, like a parent might be, that it would disappoint him in the end. After thumbing his way through it somewhat slower than Felix had, he put it in a jacket pocket, ignoring the blood-hungry words of his new cohort. As soon as Felix's elbow touched him, he pinned the man with a flat stare that said, quite clearly, "Touch me again, and I will remove the offending appendage."
He was a little kinder to Nika; after giving Nonus a gruff, but in the end, arguably polite, nod of his head and grunt, he responded to her: "Let's move. Meet in an hour." He didn't seem particularly concerned by the discontinuity of the sentences as he thumped his way out of the bar and to the chopper Specter had been guarding, black lacquered cane still the only bright thing about his entire being. A job was a job. While he had no plans of pursuit, the young lady would at least make this one a little more bearable with her cheery demeanor.
The chopper was one of those things of which, in his solitary mode of life, Claudius had become strangely fond. It could of course never remain polished for long, but parts of its chrome architecture gleamed in the mid-afternoon sun, lending a brighter aspect to his grave demeanor as he approached it possessively. The damn thing was expensive as hell to repair when it got damaged and gas was also not cheap, but it had a sidecar with a pillow and goggles in it for Specter, and a heavy, bolted lock around the wheels for when both he and the dog were absent. Not as if a lock would honestly deter anyone who really wanted it, but the chain against a length of metal in the side that acted effectively as a bell served as a loud warning. Claudius had had to clean would-be thiefs' blood off the handlebars before.
He straddled the thing and clicked his tongue at Specter, who hopped in the sidecar with a sort of dignity and waited to have her goggles put on, wagging slowly. He then pulled out his own from a glovebox, made sure his hat was secure, stashed his cane with Specter, revved the motor - taking time to close his eyes and enjoy the happy purr of the machine - and started making his way to the closest den of hookers he knew about.

Felix didn't miss Nika's eye rolling, as well as her more subtle bodily clues: it was pretty clear that she looked down on him, for whatever reason. That was fine; Felix greatly enjoyed when people underestimated him. Fewer things were more pleasant than the look on their face when they realized that they had things wrong, and he was standing over them in the end. That didn't bother him much at all.
What did bother him, though, was Claudius' attitude. The old guy was probably more seasoned than Felix, but they were both at a threshold where that probably didn't mean as much as their physical differences did. Claudius was older, and he used a cane to walk - not necessarily signs of weakness, but Felix was in his prime and had quite a bit of combat experience under his belt. If it really came down to it...well, Felix would leave that for when it happened. Let the old man think he was scary.
Throwing a quick salute to Nonus, Felix headed out of the bar as well. Once out in the sun, he retrieved a pair of sunglasses from his bag and slipped them on, enjoying the warmth on his skin for a moment before walking away into the city. Several blocks away he found his car, hopped in, and left for his headquarters. He needed to stock up on weaponry before they left.

Nika laughed mentally as Claudius responded to Felix's gesture. It wasn't because of who it was, it was because of the look. Now, at her age, she had already learned not to judge a person when you first meet them. Though, from the solitary fact that they had answered to the add, just as she had, they were confident in their skills. That alone was a good sign.
Claudius alone answered her. Alright, she could do that. Meet in an hour, but where? They hadn't exactly decided that, nor even brought it up. So, she decided she'd be outside the bar. With the cash she now had, she could buy some needed supplies. She watched as the two men left, slowly standing herself. "Hopefully the next time we meet..your daughter will be safely in your arms." She stated with a small smile.
She had seen how her father had reacted when her sister was gone. She hoped she could prevent the same fate from befalling Nonus' daughter. With that, she turned and made her way out of the bar. Once out in the bright sunlight, she squinted a moment before her eyes adjusted to the harsh light. Nika called out for her cat, and before too long, Emris was by her side.
She smiled and scratched under his chin, which extracted a purr out of him. That was one of the reasons why she loved cat's. Dog's just wagged their tails when the were 'happy'. Cat's purred, and it wasn't always easy to please a cat. Dog's were the easier pet, in her opinion. Also, having a serval for a pet wasn't out of the ordinary, but it certainly wasn't common. So, he stayed by her side as she made her way on foot to an ammo store. She needed more bullet's for her pistol. After that, she'd stock up on some water, they'd need it. Emris took care of the food with his hunting.

((I took a few liberties, based on what I saw. I tried to keep them reserved, but if they're wrong correct me, by all means.))
The appointed hour passed, and separately they reconvened in front of the trashy establishment. Each of the three arrived in their own style, and each of the three were free to learn more about each other.
Felix arrived in his truck, which rolled slowly through streets crowded with pedestrians. They watched, some with interest, some with hunger, as he passed, but all knew that a man of his dress was probably armed, and probably just as desperate as they were, just with a little bit more padding. A truck, however, meant that he hauled equipment, and the style of truck indicated to anyone mindful that he intended to haul personnel, not equipment. He was not averse to operating alone, but it wasn't his general style.
Cladius, on the other hand, rode in on his motorcycle, the sidecar clearly reserved for Specter and not meant for anyone else. Again he received the same sort of looks, but the motorcycle turned them from looks to a healthily wide berth. Indeed, he tore down the street with no need for brakes to avoid plebians; they did the avoiding, well before he actually approached.
Nika's entrance was more reserved, less forward, and certainly as much of an indication. She approached by foot, blending in with the crowd - well, at least until they noticed the wild cat following her. That tended to draw interest or alarm in equal amounts. She didn't carry the flare, though, and that was not a simple lack of suavity. She just didn't have the same ego.
They, however, did not have a difficult time spotting each other. The truck and the motorcycle and the massive cat were dead giveaways, and they rapidly convened. The gathering of the trio gathered even more attention than the individual presence of each, which lead to a rather wide space given to all of them, as the common man knew exactly what they were. The dress, the vehicles, the animals - either they were eccentric out-of-town folk, or they were Private Eyes, although the difference between the two was often blurred.

"I trust everyone's ready?" Felix said merrily, smiling in camaraderie at his new teammates. The time apart had cooled him off a bit and he was willing to consider working well with them. "Does anyone want to hop in back? I can drive us all."

The older-seeming man arrived looking somewhat more bedraggled than before, if that was possible. There was a new scratch in the lacquer on his cane, and Specter (who was as much a part of his ensemble as his coat or hat) seemed to have a blood smear on her muzzle.
Offering no explanation, he merely answered with a grunt of affirmation and "I'll drive." Again: better to leave those two on their own. He had never been a pleasant passenger, anyway.

"Well then, I guess that leaves me...." Nika said, referring to 'hopping' in the back of the truck. "Emris won't mess up anything..." She informed Felix before he could protest. No, she had taught the cat well, and he was quite civilized. Though, as she went to move the cat to get him in the back of the truck, he froze, gaze over at the dog in the sidecar, nose sniffing away. It wasn't a hunting gaze. It was more of a curious one. Emris could smell the blood, and he was a bit sad that he missed out on the fun.
It only took a moment for Nika to get the cat to budge and he leaped gracefully into the back of the truck. Now, she could only hope to be as graceful as her pet, but that was not likely to ever happen. So, to save her short self a bit of embarrassment, she climbed in the best way she knew how: by stepping on the top of the tire to get herself a boost up. A moment after that, she was in the back of the truck, sitting down, her newly aquired machete on one side and Emris laying down on the other. "Ready to go when you are..."
