Cari nodded sympathetically. "Least it won't be winter forever," she said. The rest of the year the mountains were normal rock; she wasn't sure that even the tops of the mountain retained any snow like how some mountains did.
"Just don't go near frozen lakes or somethin' 'til you're really good," she added, face a little worried. If Arrin went through the ice surface and down in the water she was afraid he'd never come back up. There were still currents below the ice, and could tug you away from the hole you'd made to an ice roof.

Arrin smiled warily. He would like to see the mountains without snow but since he had joined there had been snow on the ground. “I wonder how the mountains will look without the snow. It would certainly make searching for plants easier.”
Cari sounded a bit worried on the lake part so Arrin felt like he had to reassure her. “Don’t worry I’ve only been practicing on the more shallow frozen streams. That way if the ice does break I don’t get to wet. I know how dangerous that can be. Besides you know how careful the tribe is. I would never be allowed to practice alone without someone in shouting distance to come help.”

Cari tilted her head ever so slightly and tried to smooth the worry lines from her expression. She couldn't help a small scoff though. "As long as you stay away from the Buckland Band. Their training methods are crazy." She wouldn't quite put it past their Lead to involve others in their training to "assist". If she even got a hint that something like that was happening to Arrin, she'd be all over Amaroq in a second! Just cause she was Ketchikan didn't mean she could be fierce!

Arrin shivered. “You don’t need to worry about that. I’m staying clear of them as much as I can. Besides I’m not a racer so I’m not really of much interest to them. If anything you’re the type to have to worry about them.” Arrin frowned at this thought but knew Cari could take care of herself if the need arose. It would be pointless to tell her to be careful. Cari would do whatever she felt she had to do.

Cari laughed, and it was one of her carefree sounds. "They only wish they could bother me! Only other swings can hope to match my combined speed and strength, and they don't have a swing yet, I think." She wasn't bragging either; swings had to be fast to lead the team and strong to forge through unbroken paths of snow. She wasn't the strongest or fastest team member, but she had a good combination of the two.
By now the pair had put a good bit of vertical distance in and the land had leveled out some to dump them in a thicket of pine trees. "Oooh, smells nice," Cari enthused, breathing in deeply.

“You know the little kit Rόis is training to be a swing. It seems like you had a big effect on her. Though I doubt she’ll join that team. She doesn’t seem like she wants to race. She wants to make deliveries and help others. That’s probably her mom’s influence on her.” Arrin had many conversations with the kit so he knew all about her Phim mother and flightless father.
Arrin nodded at Cari’s comment. The pine did smell good. He walked next to a pine tree and brushed the snow off the needles. He snapped a small section of branch and added it to his fur. The others in the tribe might have a use for the tree as sled material so he made note of the thicket’s location in his mind. “The sap is going to mess up my fur”

Cari had heard that Rosie was training to be a sled fox, and kinda wished she was more grown so she could help her train. If there was anything Cari loved to do as much as spending time with Arrin, it was racing. It must have been something bred into her blood, like with all the other curly-tailed foxes of her kind.
"That's great! Betcha Rosie's gonna be amazing!" She giggled a little. "And yup! You might still even have sticky clumps of fur until spring, when you can wash your tail without freezing! Or if you're lucky the snow might get rid of it." The snow thing was a bit doubtful, but it did turn to water if it got too warm.

Arrin smiled. Cari had the amazing ablity to slaughter Rios’s name and actually annoy the little kit. Not that Rios ever actually complained about it. That kit looks up to Cari I think. To correct her ever time that Cari botches her name would probably make the kit choke. Arrin chuckled. “She will do great I’m certain.” Arrin stuck out his tongue and make a face. “So my options are staying sticky all winter or freeze getting clean. Not much of a set of options huh? I’ll try and wash my fur off later after we bring all the bits of plants back. I’ll freeze my tail off but at least I won’t have to worry about sticking to everything as I walk past it.”

((XD She actually knows she's not saying the name right, she just thinks Rosie is easier and that's her "nickname", so to speak))
"Oooh! If you freeze it off enough then you'll have a tail that looks just like mine," Cari exclaimed, giggling a little at the mental image it presented. There weren't a whole lot of males with tails like hers, really, and as far as she knew they were all taken anyway. Not that she really cared if her mate had a tail like hers or not....
On that random tangent Cari cast Arrin a considering look, a surprisingly serious considering look. Surprising because with that spunky attitude of hers serious wasn't something Cari undertook with any degree of frequency.

Arrin looked at his own tail and then back to Cari with an incredulous look on his face. “I’ll wash it, but I’d hope it wouldn’t fall off. I like my tail long that way I can wrap it around me and keep my nose from forming icicles.” Arrin winked at Cari playfully. She knew full well that he didn’t like being cold and having icicles hanging off him, so his whining was a joke in and of itself.
Cari’s look was different and serious. Arrin blinked as he looked at her. She looked like she was weighing and measuring him for something. It was a serious look that Arrin rarely saw on Cari unless she was in the middle of training or a race and had to figure something out fast. “Cari is everything alright?” Arrin’s voice showed his concern and worry over Cari. He took a few steps closer to her in case she needed him.

"Hm?" Cari blinked, then realized what kind of expression she must have been wearing. "Oh! No, everything's fine. Guess I was just thinking too hard or something," she said, laughing a little to cover a small bit of embarassment.
"Sooo, we wanna try to keep going uphill, or do we wanna give downhill a shot before we head home," she asked, casting an eye up at the sky. The sun was still plenty high enough in the sky. She used the excuse of looking away just in case she still had her serious, speculative look. Cari certainly didn't want Arrin to worry!

“Well I’m glad that everything is ok.” Arrin smiled at Cari gladly. He pondered over her next question for a moment. “Well we can go up or continue looking around here for any small mushrooms or plants that are growing around the pines. I’m good with either as long as we won’t have a long uphill trek on the way home.” Arrin took a step closer so that he was right up next to Cari and peeked around at the face she had as she was looking away. It didn’t seem quite so serious to Arrin but it made his heart beat a bit faster. Cari looked so cute that Arrin grinned and reached up and patted Cari’s cheek. “Much better now.”

Cari looked around and grinned, bumping her head affectionately against Arrin's. It could either have been friendly affection or something....more, especially since Cari was just naturally friendly.
"Sure, let's look around the trees while we're here! We might find something since it's more sheltered, and we can look at uphill while we're here and decide then." Cari didn't so much bound forward now, but she did shuffle forward in an enthusiastic manner, checking the bases of the trees she passed and occasionly digging at the ground.

Arrin’s heart picked up the pace at Cari’s touch. Still he swallowed and nodded at her suggestion. He dug around the base of a pine tree and picked up some sort of fungi that was growing near the base. He added it to his collection in his tail and thought to strike up a conversation with Cari. There was one topic in particular that he couldn’t seem to shake from his mind and after a moment of a mad dash in his mind for any other topic he came up empty pawed. So he figured he might as well as about what was itching at him. “Cari. Is there anyone in the tribe that you like a lot?”

Cari looked up from digging among old pine needles to give Arrin a winning grin. "Well yea! I like everyone in the tribe, a whole bunch! Wouldn't have joined if I didn't!" That was when her high-energy brain caught up with the question's other implied meaning.
"Ooooh! Did you mean like like like," she asked. She tried to keep her voice serious and not too teasing; Arrin was so shy, she'd scare him off the topic if he thought she was poking fun.
