Sefas Minos
Alchemist

Sefas smiled brightly, taking the metal and bowing down to the vendor.

"Thank you very much, sir."
He then turned over to Neysa, noting that she said she didn't know a whole lot about the city... Admittedly, he knew little about it himself, except some of how it came to be occupied by peoples of other regions and why it was in such a derelict state. He did know that this city had some serious troubles caused largely by a combination between its poor location and the constant threat of Demon attacks... It was unsurprising that such a place was thriving with fear and paranoia of anyone who would try to get in. Anyone who did was a security risk and a strain on the resources...

Sefas picked up the Ore, placing them onto the cart and looking back at Neysa.

"Sure am... I'm going to need to find someplace to stay though... I'm not sure this place is going to be all that obliging to give us shelter. They seem pretty pressed for resources as it is..." He adjusted his robe after loading the ore.

"From what I hear... Tenepolis is a city of people whose societies either were destroyed or exiled them... Apparently, the city was erected relatively recently, when the other Kingdoms began to crack down on dissidents and revolutionaries that were causing problems. Since they were political groups who opposed the local governments, execution would've caused an uproar, so they softened it for the public by saying they were 'Relocated' to 'Granted Land where they can establish their own order'... The public of the other Kingdoms took it well, though almost none of the public has ever been to the Southern Region before..." He let out a sigh.

"That would be the Exile population who apparently found this place and started building it up... But then there's the other half of the city's population... The Shadow People... They're a bit of a mystery. Legends say that they were the original inhabitants of the Southern Region before some sort of catastrophe that turned it into the barren wasteland you see today. I guess they're whoever was left from that destructive event." He looked around, then turned his attention to the towers at the city's center. "I do know one thing for certain..." He leaned over and whispered into Neysa's ear. "The architecture gives me the creeps."

Kiyoshi Jino
Your Prayers are heard
---------------------------

Kiyoshi's eyes widened as he heard what city he was in. He didn't remember Tenepolis ever looking like that. Could he really have been dead that long, and not even notice. He was devestated. He thought for a minute. Maybe those people were lying. It had to be that they were lying. Kiyoshi looked down at the ground, and back up. That wasn't it. Those people had such honesty in their voice, it wasn't funny. Perhaps maybe it was another place called Tenepolis. Kiyoshi pondered that posibility too, only to see that it wasn't possible. That would also explain why he felt odd coming into the city. It was his hometown, but it looked completely different.

"Oh," he murmured. "Well, thank you anyways." He returned the mask to his shirt, and breathed a defeated sigh. The mask as probably somwhere else. Then again, since the mask was lost in the town, there was a chance that it would still be there. But if there was a great catastrophe, the mask was probably destroyed. He thought about it so much that his head hurt. Breathing another sigh, he looked at each member of the group he had walked towards. "I don't know this city very well. Could I please stay with you until I am familiar with my surroundings?"

Sefas Minos
Alchemist

Sefas looked over to the white-haired individual, raising an eyebrow as he adjusted his robe. "Well, buddy, we're on the same boat in that manner... I don't think any outsider is ever familiar with this city. Its existence is usually only spoken in rumor, but... In my line of work, sometimes rumors are very valuable." He then remembered something... Wasn't this guy saying something about a mask? He'd best introduce himself first...

"Ah! Where are my manners. I'm Sefas Minos, a traveling Alchemist." He bowed slightly, then proceeded to his question.

"Were you looking for some kind of artifact that came from one of the Older Civilizations of the Southern Wastes?" Sefas was rather curious about what the white-haired man was seeking... Perhaps that artifact might have some properties he wasn't aware of.

"I should warn you, Tenepolis was only recently built, from what I've heard about it... I'd wager 60 years at the oldest. Before that, this area was a slum for Shadows that survived some kind of catastrophe that happened earlier, or so it's said... I'd say you would be hard-pressed to find anything from the previous civilizations... Still, I can't conceal my intrigue... The South, while full of perils and dangers, is also chock full of strange secrets lost to the ages."

Kiyoshi Jino
Your Prayers are heard
---------------------------

"Ahh. I see." Kiyoshi replied after listening to Sefas' short history lesson. "Well, My name is Kiyoshi Jino, and I haven't earned myself a formal title yet." He smiled, knowing that he wasn't the only outsider around. "I guess you could say that the thing I'm looking for is an artifact from the older civilisations. I heard that before the great catastrophe, there was another city situated here, also going by the name Tenepolis. Of course, that's about all that I know about this place." Kiyoshi looked around the city. Now her knew that he must have been dead at least 60 years. In fact, would had to have been even more than that if the city was completed 60 years before, and that the land was still inhabited many years before that, plus the fact that there was some great catastrophe.

"The object I'm searching for is the other half of something called the mask of Lumumbros. It's not a very well heard of object. I hear that it's unknown how word of it even leaked out because the only two people who knew about originally, were killed fighting over it." Kiyoshi laughed, and then frowned. How long could he keep it secret that he was one of those two?

Kiyoshi looked around at the city again, still wondering what kind of catastrophe could have occured and destroyed such a wonderful land. He was so confused. What had he missed while he was lost in the abyss? "I wonder, does anyone know what this big catastrophe was?" He asked. His curiosity was sure to get the best of him soon. If he kept on asking questions, he was sure to find an answer he wouldn't enjoy.

Captain Salnesh
Of the Gray Militia

"A War." A voice seemed to answer the question almost out of nowhere, the Shadow Captain walking down the road, her left hand resting on her black-metal blade. Her stern, crimson eyes surveyed the people there as though trying to ascertain that she's found the right people. Her pale skin, or at least what was exposed of it, was riddled with scars and burn marks. She looked between the three of them... Some strange, White-Clad foreigner, an eccentric Traveling Alchemist, and a strange, bubbly blonde woman. She then made the slightest effort at a smile... It seemed so out of place on her visage, though one should at least applaud her for effort. She returned to her serious look, though it wasn't devoid of any emotion... It actually showed something between resentment and remorse of the times past.

"Long ago, this land had civilizations and countries that were inhabited by my ancestors. Like what you call 'Shadow People' today, these ancestral people had a particularly strong aptitude in magic and technology. Our ancestors were largely isolated from the rest of the world by the Umbral Mountains to the North... After you three went through them, you should know that getting here is no small feat at any time." She smirked lightly at the remark, as though she was commending their strength.

"The other nations never meddled in our affairs, though all that left is for the other Nations here to turn on each other and try to annex all the others for one country... So each country, out for its own gain, started researching the quickest ways to obliterate the others and force them to surrender.

"Along with conventional warfare, ten of the countries, most of them located in what is now the Abyssal Plain, summoned monstrous Demons from some twisted existence into this world, while some of the others in the region actually started turning their own people into Demons... Those countries were the ones that had the most survivors, simply because their people were better-equipped for surviving what happened afterwards, which was, in a word, disastrous. Every country launched its attack at once, and the area where you stand, Tenepolis, was once another city of the same name that created a magical artifact that could block out sunlight indefinitely... This was a preliminary step to their other strategies to ensure that the enemy could not grow any crops and feed their troops. They also had another weapon at their disposal, a Magic-Discharge Cannon that could simply blast what it shot into little more than debris.

"With it, Old Tenepolis destroyed neighboring countries to the East and West, which were some of the countries giving their people Demonic Traits. Destroying the countries resulted in what we call the Ashen Wings. However, when Old Tenepolis pointed its Discharge Cannon to the South, the Demons were already pressing it hard and completely leveled the city, and when the Demons destroyed one of the cities, it was blasted into oblivion. The Ruins of Old Tenepolis are essentially reduced to the dust and gravel, as are the other cities, that you see throughout the entire Black Wastes. These monsters then turned on the nations that summoned them and destroyed them too, the only remnants being the Abyssal Plains, a region where we go nowhere near..."
She clutched her sword and looked over the outsiders one more time.

"I hear you are looking for some lodging... The Gray Militia would be willing to provide you with quarters, in exchange for a few tasks..." She adjusted her weight and laid her hand more loosely on the blade at her hip... She knew exactly what position she was in. She had something they needed and they needed to gain the trust of the citizens if they ever think of staying in the city... This could be her chance to get done what the council is taking too long to decide to do.

Kiyoshi Jino
Your Prayers are heard
---------------------------

"How could something like that occur in such a beautiful place?" Kiyoshi questioned, unable to beleive that his hometown had been destroyed by war. "I understand that although most of the population of old Tenepolis was these shadow people, but I heard that a few humans, or very very close to human, resided here as well. Then again, I don't really see a huge difference between humans and shadow people." Kiyoshi shrugged. He was sure that it would probably have been a good idea to stop asking questions. People would soon start to wonder why he needed to know so much about Tenepolis.

Kiyoshi soon turned his attention to the fact that he was being ask a favor. "A task? I would have to oblidge. It's rude not to help others, unless their desires are malicious, which I'm hoping yours aren't." He smiled, even though it was probably not the best of ideas. He moved his hair out of his face, and brought his gaze to meet the gaze of this shadow person. "What is this task?" He asked, finally.

Captain Salnesh
Of the Gray Militia

Salnesh raised a brow at the white-haired man, furrowing them once more as she spoke.

"Those that could be called 'human' were those of the ancestors whose magical aptitude was low... Needless to say, they didn't exactly survive, and nor would they now. These events occurred several centuries ago, long before the city was ever rebuilt." She held out the blade and let it rest on the ground. "It'd be several years after that before we even started building encampments... Most of our People fled and tried to go through the mountains, either through the Shadow Passes or, the less fortunate, going through the Tomb of the Exiled. The first encampment was completed 10 years after the attempted dispersal, when a portion of our ancestors decided it was futile to flee, that we would never be accepted by other people and decided to try to find ways to survive here. However, the difference between Shadows and Humans has been irrelevant then, and it's irrelevant now. What caused the wars was the Greed of the national leaders, which is why we are now run by a Council and a High Adjudicator, both of which have a different person running it in a very short span of time, as to ensure none of them become as greedy and power-hungry as our predecessors were."

The previous was spoken in a rather irritated tone. She threw her braid back and stared down the White-Haired foreigner. Who did he think he was, questioning her knowledge of the homeland she pledged her life to protect? She returned to a very military and serious manner of speaking, addressing the foreigners as a group.

"As for your assignment, you are to travel to the Black Wastes and check for signs of Demonic Activity. You are to record your findings and report back to me once you've circled the perimeter of the city of Tenepolis, investigated the Pools of the Ebon Fields, and check the areas being prospected for Enferantite that collapsed into some other, deeper tunnels. I will give you a map with all the locations marked for tomorrow. For now, I will be showing you three to your quarters." She turned about-face, walking over to the center of the city with the enormous, twisted black towers spiraling about... Apparently, these towers were the living quarters that they were being promised.

She then looked over at the Shinobi, noting the red eyes and assuming that he was a descendant of one of the nations that was demonizing their people. She signaled for him to come over so she can address him directly.

"You work for this city, am I correct? If so, keep an eye on them and ensure that they return here when their task is finished... And make sure they don't do anything particularly stupid."

Sefas Minos
Alchemist

Sefas looked between the crowd, a bit awkward about having to absorb all this information at once... It seemed this place was an enormously troubled and restless region, even in the times that it was lively. He seemed to be able to notice the palpable tension in the air... The Shadow Captain that just appeared out of nowhere seemed to be getting rather irritated, and the last thing he wanted to do was annoy one of the locals... He picked up his cart and listened to the task... A very military request, why couldn't their own forces do that? He then decided against asking... He reminded himself that he was in no position to pester the woman with questions... With all those scars on her body, she wasn't someone to mess with.

He picked up his cart and started pulling it across the road, following the woman to their living quarters... Well, at least he'd have a place to stay and conduct his experiments. He was worried that he'd have to make a lean-to and perform his experiments there... Though the spiraling towers of twisted, black metal worried him some... Just how good was their structural integrity? Hell, forget structural integrity, those things just looked creepy. How does any structure do that and stay stable? It was... Unreal, to say the least. He wondered what the insides might look like... Though, it didn't matter now. He had his Enferantite, though he probably should rest and refine it here... Plus, if there are other magical items here and craftsmen that can make Enferantite into magical items that he could use, he'd best stick around and have them do the work... He was an alchemist, not an enchanter.

Kiyoshi Jino
Your Prayers are heard
---------------------------

There was no choice but to follow. Kiyoshi began to follow the Military member, along with Sefas. The buildings he saw were warped an twisted. "How can anyone live in buildings like that." He thought aloud, under his breath. He continued to observe the city, and how it worked. He had determined very little about the current Tenepolis, and really wanted to know more. Casually, he pulled out his half of the mask, and looked at it, and all it's glistening wonder. He was still lost as to how the mask had changed color, and how it stayed with him, even after he left the realm of the living. Even on re-entry into the land of life, the mask stayed with him. Things were so confusing.

As Kiyoshi thought about the mask, a question popped into his head. "Is there perhaps, a library in this city?" He questioned curiously. A library would be the best way to learn more about the city, and Kiyoshi really did need to know more. The fate of his hometown intrigued him. He knew that as a child, he was magically in tune, but he never recalled being refered to as a shadow person. He was human, as far as he knew. Things were getting far to complicated.

Neysa quietly listened to the conversation between Sefas and Kiyoshi. She watched the two closely as they spoke and took note of their motions and gestures. Some of the information that Sefas was sharing with the man in white, she knew but a lot of it she had never heard before. This city was a very interesting place but it seemed so closed off from the world and it seemed more better off then the villages she had come across while she traveled in the lands.

She almost jumped when she heard the female voice speaking out from the shadows. Neysa shifted her gaze from the two men to the woman. She noted the wars and her red eyes, then the clothing she wore. Neysa tried to keep up with all the the information that she spoke about the city but there really was a long history. When she offered a place to stay that would not cost her any out of her own pocket her eyes lit up. Finally a break. she thought but then a frown appeared when she mentioned tasked that they would half to do.

Neysa let out a heavy sigh. All she wanted was a place to stay for the night, food, and a bath. She crossed her arms and listened to what the woman had to say. When the woman mentioned Demonic activity. She quickly glanced up at Shinobi for a moment before her gaze fell back on the woman. If we do run in demons..what do we do then? If the city is having problems with them then I don't think they will be as friendly as Shinobi is.

Neysa watched the others follow after woman when she started to walk away. She looked up at Shinobi and grinned. "Free place to stay for the night..how can I refuse? Though I'm not liking what she wants us to do...at all.." she muttered. "Are you going to come with? After all...I think she wants you to baby sit us. She doesn't seem to be the most agreeable woman though..I'm not looking forward to go out there but it feels like I don't have an option, the way she put it." Neysa then started to walk after them, though she was further behind then the others. She really found no rush to get there.

User ImageNarinthe's eye shifted to Sefas as he spoke of Tenepolis' state. His eye blazed monotonously into Sefas' own hazel eyes. He was correct for the most part. Even if he hadn't been correct, Narinthe would hardly have though of stepping in to correct him. But it was a comfort someone even slightly understood the city they were in, unlike the other two.. Well, that was why they sought him out, wasn't it..?

As Kiyoshi spoke, his eye floated back, as if it had expected him to have left it's sight by now. But as he asked to follow, Narinthe only further felt the need to escape the group for a good drink. Since when were they all travelling together?! The Shinobi's eye closed to avoid it's roll of irritation to be seen. His eye slid open calmly again, as if it had never happened.

As they began to discuss the situation, his head turned upon hearing a new set of breaths. A voice came soon after that.. The Captain of the militia here? He listened to her speech, his eye still blazing in his skull. As she finished her speech, she mentioned lodging for a few tasks. Luckily, her gaze did not fall upon him, he was not tied with the group yet. If he made his way out now, he could get back to the City of Aden on schedule. He looked at Neysa as she looked at him as the Cpatain mentioned demons. He resisted a sigh. Of course, he was going to get the usual treatment, from her..

A share of words was had between the odd man of white, and the captain. finally, the dreaded movement: she looked at him. As she motioned, he rigidly approached, as if he dreaded the whole thing--which was wholly the truth. His eye looked down upon her as she spoke. Working for the city? Sure, lets go with that. He nodded slowly, and as she continued, his irritation was hidden. He was grouped with them. He was going to have to miss a paycheck. Perhaps he'd get something out of it--lodging might include meals. It included less money for him to spend of this current paycheck, so he'd accept it..

He nodded yet again, and followed behind Sefas, slowing himself to be behind the rest, to ensure Neysa was still around. Her, he could stand. She spoke again, voicing her concerns. He felt himself looking down at her he walked alongside her. As she asked if he was coming, with a small raise of his shoulders as a shrug, he nodded hesitantly. she added how she didn't feel that she liked it, and it caused a discreet pat on the shoulder from the man.

The more he was around Neysa, the more he felt like she did not belong in Tenepolis. She was.. Somehow, very pure. It was in her aura, it was in her words, her movements. She would not last against demons. The other two, he felt the similar with in Kiyoshi, and Sefas, he was unsure of. But the bottom like was, he was asked to keep them safe, and his own law code demanded it of him. He had to go, even if she did not offer him lodging.

If she didn't..well.. He'd find a roof nearby to rest upon in his concealed form.

The Captain nodded at the Shinobi slowly, muttering softly before she led on, "You will be appropriately compensated." As she led the group to the twisting towers, she noted the one that, from their angle, is the one on the farthest left. "These are the Militia Living Quarters. You will receive your rooms at the front desk." She then pointed to the Central Tower. "As for your library, all of our archives are located in the Executive Tower. Few books from the olden days have survived to now, I do warn you." She kept her hand on the sword along her hip. At this point, she remained silent and leads on over to the Militia Living Quarters... The door opens and she walks inside. She turned and called to the Shinobi. "You're living here, too."

Sefas let out a sigh as he followed closely... He checked his belts of vials underneath his robes. Seems like they're in order... He'd have to leave his cart outside though. He wheeled it over to the side of the tower, covering it in a large tarp but picking up the Enferantite and one of the Water Jugs. He grunted lightly as he walked over, pocketing a book into his robes as he remembered one of the things he got the black metal for.

Moving toward the tower, he wobbled in after Captain Salnesh, his movements providing a whimsical, almost idiotic contrast to her stark and serious manner. His purple hair swayed back and forth with each motion, barely managing to get into the door while carrying his immensely heavy cargo. Clearly in a hurry to get his quarters, he fumbled to the desk and was handed a small ring. This ring had a key and a tag on it that read "#343." The woman at the desk then told him that it was on the third floor of the tower. Sefas nodded in thanks, hobbling for the stairs that would twist and wind...

The inside of the tower was something particularly odd... The Desk Sefas picked up the keyring from was actually bent and curved to match the warped contour of the wall behind it. The room itself appeared round, though many places on it randomly jutted inward and then back out again, the entire wall looking like some kind of rippling wave. On this floor, there appeared to be no windows to speak of, and just the one door, which was also slanted and constructed so that one side of it was clearly higher and bigger than the other... This tower was something out of an odd dreamworld, although it suddenly felt far more inviting than the outside world would be tomorrow...

The tower looked very bizarre, but Kiyoshi had no other option but to enter. He followed behind Sefas, unsure of what was to come. As he walked through the odd door, he eyes were assaulted by the sight of such warped architecture. He had never seen anything like it. everything had been built so queerly, Kiyoshi had to rub his eyes just to make sure that it wasn't his vision. He approached the desk, which also had a weird shape to it, ands recieved a key from the woman at the desk. It read "#339". Kiyoshi understood that, like Sefas, he was staying on the third floor.

Kiyoshi chose to follow the alchemist up the stairs, still feeling like there was something surreal about his surroundings. Everything was winding, and turning, and waving, and just so interesting yet disturbing. Kiyoshi didn't even know how to react to the tower, and it's architecture. Breathing out a sigh of amazement, Kiyoshi ran his hand through his hair, and adjusted his clothing.

Akumi Jino
Your Evil Calls
---------------------------

The taste of blood was sweet. Akumi's tongue had never experienced such a wonder. She was so thrilled with the flavor filling her senses, she couldn't contain it. She ran her hands over her body, coating her fingers with the crimson liquid dripping over her. She brought her hands up to her mouth, and they were caressed by her tongue. It was such a wonder, and Akumi was sure that she would soon become addicted to it. After a few moments, her body was cleaned, and Akumi brought her gaze down to the floor, where the corpse of a dead soldier lay. "Pity," She commented. "He was pretty good looking too."

Akumi looked at her surroundings. She had only awoken ten minute before, finding herself alone in a room that must have belonged to a soldier, as there was armor sitting in the room. The things that had happened to her seemed like a dream, but the dark maroon mask in her hands told her they were real. The dark purple wings on her back confirmed it as well. She had become a demon.

Now, walking away, from the dead body of the soldier that had walked into the room, Akumi contemplated. She knew that the other half of the mask was still around, and that she needed to get her hands on it. hat she didn't know was how she was going to do it. Such a task to try and complete. It seemed almost pointless, had it not been for the fact that large amounts of power would be hers if she assembled the mask. She looked around at the room, not sure if she should leave yet, and leaned against the wall, which was odly shaped. Now that she her attention was called to it, the room itself was very queer in design. "Now how about that." She thought aloud.

Neysa blinked when shinobi patted her shoulder and looked up at him. She gave him a smile. "Well this can't be so bad.." she muttered quietly to herself. Her gaze fell on the woman up ahead. She slightly quickened her pace so that she didn't loose her in the streets. Soon she found herself looking up at a tall tower. A slight frown appeared on her lip and she let out a soft sigh. I don't like these buildings...she thought. They give me the creeps..They just don't seem right. She followed the group inside of the tower. Her eyes scanned the surrounding interiors. This place was very odd to her, it put her on edge. Neysa turned her attention back to the woman when she spoke again. She looked over at the desk in the middle of the room and titled her head to the side. She thought about the library for a moment and decided that she might head in that direction as well, just out of curiosity. Easy enough..Neysa picked up what the woman had said to the demon. At least he is getting paid for this. He probably had other things he had to do

She approached the desk and was given the key like the others. She thanked the person behind the desk. Her eyes fell to the numbers on the card. '340' She noticed the others were heading in the same direction that she was going to go. We must all be on the same floor...she thought with a sigh. Neysa looked back at Shinobi. "Are you going to stick around? It looks like we all have some free time before we have to go tomorrow."
