"Oh. Well, that makes sense." Nyx cheerfully sat the cake down on a space not occupied by papers, and handed Mau a little carton of milk she'd gotten from the cafeteria. "Yes."
Something had to be wrong with her. She was probably sick and dying. Nyx wasn't accusing Mau of trying to show her up or anything. All she did was slice off a chunk of cake onto a paper plate and hand it to Mau with a plastic fork as well. She didn't start to slice herself off any, however.

Mau looked at the milk. What was this, grade school? But it was sweet. No, no it wasn't. It was probably some horribly DNA altering drug. Nyx was trying to turn him into a bug or something. "Thank you." He said before accepting the cake. "Breakfast of champions. Nyx, you're an angel." He said before taking a bite of the cake. Oh, glorious sugary cake. It was still slightly warm too. Perfect. "Did you just make this?"

"Mm, yeah." Nyx swiveled about in her chair lightly and opened her milk carton. The idea of her tampering with previously sealed milk was ridiculous. If anything she'd have altered the cake. No one could resist cake, thus making it the ultimate trap. It wasn't, since Nyx finally decided to cut herself a slice of Mau-Cake and set it aside to sip delicious milk through a tiny straw.

"It's delicious." He was holding his now empty plate out to her. Then in a slightly mischievous voice, sounding almost childlike, asked "Please sir, I want some more." Though his English accent was pitiful at best.
But how could he not have another slice. Cake. For breakfast. It was better than cold pizza for breakfast. MUCH better.
"If we submit our findings, we can have the tech faction take a look at the equipment."

Nyx laughed suddenly at Mau's rendition of Oliver Twist, but since she was still sipping milk, it came out as a short serious of violent bubbles blown into the carton. "You're a dork." She rolled her eyes as she sliced poor orphan Mau another piece of cake and pushed it over onto his plate.
"Wait... you mean... you finished all of it?" That had been all of the scheduled work for the day, and it was done? That would leave her entire day open. She could, dare she think it, go back to bed. What with having a baby transforming pokemon in her care, she didn't get many 'free days'.

Mau took a bite of this fresh piece of red velvet heaven before looking at Nyx again with the same sleepy expression. Her snorting bubbles into her milk was hilarious on some levels, but sleep deprived brains had a horrible habit of loosing entertaining memories like that.
"Yeah. I was on a roll last night. I couldn't help it. After looking into the P033R spike, it just sort of laid itself out. What's left is no longer our assignment. that's for the techies to figure out." He smiled before licking his fork. That was good cake. But best not be a pig about it. He was sort of glad that this project was, at least for now, dealt with. He was rather tired of the while charizard incident. The forms, indecent reports, data logs, the review, the research... he wanted to wash his hands of it and continue with his other works. Oh well.
"Guess we can get back to our regular..." He yawned. "...assignments or something... Or sleep. Do you have plans today?"

"No, not now that you've finished everything. The only thing I can think to do is more sleep." Nyx finished off her bit of cake and pushed the remains of the whole cake towards Mau. It was his cake, after all. "Not that the others couldn't find some way to entertain themselves with me..." Her pokemon, sometimes, were terrible. Correction. Newton and Darwin were sometimes terrible... but Newton had been behaving more lately... ever since Nyx Frankenstein's monster'd up a suit jacket for him.

Mau raised his brow at that, giving her a mildly quizzical look. "Nnnh... I see." He looked at the cake and smiled. An offering? A peace offering perhaps. "Well, if you have no plans, would you like to go out with me this evening?" The words were out before Mau realized what he asked.
Damn it brain, wake up.

"Alr- Wait. What?" Nyx looked very slowly between Mau and the cake. Apparently the quickest way to a man's heart was through his stomach. Had she led him on with niceness and cake? Certainly she was a creature of pure logic (lies), not ruled by her more bestial instincts, and had no desire for 'going out.' But she wasn't able to form this sentence, all she was able to do was stare back and forth between the cake and Mau.

Mau sighed and rested his elbow on the desk, propping his cheek in his palm. He actually couldn't believe he had asked that. But her face now was priceless. "That is to say, tonight is the last night in which one can attend a certain event - due to seasonal changes in climate- where the physical rush of adrenaline is at an increased constant rate do to machines and devices that alter ones perception of gravity at an increased speed." He stated blandly. "Of course there would also be ample opportunity for the consumption of copious amounts of sugar and various questionable proteins. But if you aren't interested..."

"Oh! Pft. Yeah. Science and sugar! I enjoy both of those things!" That seemed to be rope thrown into the proverbial quicksand that was a terribly confused scientist. "Like our picnic, but with less broken limbs and being covered in a sticky mess." Nyx wiped her hands on her lab coat pockets, one would assume to remove cake residue... or sweaty palms.

Mau chuckled. "I could bring Mai along. She's evolved now." He teased gently. "Alright then, for science. Perhaps we should rendezvous around 4:00 this afternoon. Be advised that while it is a scientific operation, we should not draw undue attention to ourselves. We should dress appropriately for both the location and the weather."
Why did this suddenly sound more like a mission than going out?

"Alright. Late fall apparel, no lab coats or uniforms." It was easier to think of it as a mission, just, more manageable to wrap her head around. They were going to this event for science. "Where is the rendezvous?"
Science made everything make sense. Why would Mau, her greatest foe and rival, ask her out. It was silly. They were scientists with little time for such things. But physics on top of a social experiment? All the time in the world for that.

Mau nodded to her as she recounted the dress code for this excursion. "The elevator in the parking garage." he suggested. It would be the meeting place fewest people would see them after all. He slowly stood up. "Is that acceptable?"

"I accept these terms. I will meet you at four pm." Nyx resisted a gut reaction to shake hands with Mau before exiting the room and returning to her quarters. She had some sleep to catch up on, and then... a... thing to get ready for.
