Zane didn't think it would work. Sure, he might've been decent-looking, and a good guy at heart despite his lecherous tendencies, but it was once in a blue moon that a woman like the Russian before him even considered giving him the time of day.

But here he was, getting the woman's - Katarina's - business card. And an invitation to call her later. This, like, his birthday, Christmas, and New Years all rolled into one.

Zane slipped the card away for safety, watching Katarina walk away, until Ramona brought him back to reality. "I don't think are friends was into chicks, love," he said. Though, I wonder if she would be put off by that idea... "And Kenji Boy wanted me to stop by the docks and pick up some fish. Don't worry though, I'll help you look for treasure. But we can't keep Kenji waiting, so I'll have to be quick, alright?" Zane revved his bike, itching to go. "Now, put on the helmet and hold on tight!"

When Ramona did that, Zane peeled out and shoot off down the road, back to the dock area. He wondered if the firefighters had already taken care of his work. Probably, but even then the scent of smoke would still be in the air.

"I underestimated just who I was dealing with--She had to know the pain was beating on me like a drum...

::Katarina [Zevran]::

"It is good that they have a fire department. This town is rotten."

Katarina masked her general surprise at hearing Aria's voice by merely turning her head to acknowledge that the Israeli was there. No doubt she had missed the exchange between the motorist--Zane, right?--and herself. Well, she'd catch her up on that.

"I agree. Although it's not the worst we've ever seen. Zimbabwe was horrific." Now that she thought about it, that country would forever be her basis of what a true disaster was. That had been even beyond their control, and VOID was stubborn.

"I met someone from the Heavenly Dojo," She stated suddenly. "Male named Zane. There was also a woman--very childish woman--with him. Apparently she was a red belt Judo user, he did Capoeria. I gave my card to the male because he hit on me, I figured it might be good to know an insider. Perhaps he'll call up and I'll have the opportunity to work his angles." Work the angles had always been her vague way of implying she'd get information one way or another. Though Katarina certainly had morals, her boundless fascination for the human mind often overrode her own scruples. It was a game, figuring people out, one that she was fairly good at.

...she underestimated just who she was stealing from."

--Kenji//Yamato--

Depositing the cell phone into his pocket, Kenji moved to the front door, locking it with one swift turn of the wrist. Those who knew him or Zane already understood that, if they were in trouble, the back door was the best bet to go for, should they need help. Checking the windows, before drawing the blinds, he sighed at the sight of steam rising into the sky. Well, apparently the fire was being handled. That was one less thing to be concerned about.

Opening the doorway to the stairwell, Kenji padded upstairs to the house that him and Zane shared, stepping into the kitchen and pulling out his sushi supplies. The seaweed wrap was well chilled, fresh vegetables still good, but the knives were horribly dull. Reaching across the counter, he pulled his sharpening stone over, before starting with his scaling knives. Old fashioned, yes, but things like this comforted him. Besides, his uncle had done this the exact same way.

Ah, Uncle. Kenji paused, reflective. What would he have wanted, right now? So many things had happened since his passing, and Kenji had tried to do what Uncle would have wanted. But, with Zane being devil-may-care, and a thousand new troubles springing up in the wake of his absence, and new students with no idea of what they were doing.

Foolish to waste time on such thoughts. Kenji shook his head, returning to sharpening. Introspect was useless, unless needed to atone. Looking to the past would solve nothing. Learn, and move on.

Ramona held onto Zane, confused. "Not into chicks?" she thought, not actually making the connection that he and Katarina had been flirting. Well, that Zane had been flirting. The girl still couldn't shake the uncomfortable feeling the Russian had left her with, though she wasn't able to describe it, nor why she was negatively affected by the woman's presence.

As the buildings gave way to the ocean, Ramona found herself scanning the horizon. The smell of salt and smoke permeated the air. "Hey Zane, what about tomorrow? I mean, if we have to hurry tonight, why not go to the harbor tomorrow to hunt for treasure? Then we could be more thorough while we're searching, and spend a few hours instead of a few minutes!" She felt her new idea was absolutely flawless. No way could Zane argue with her logic.

((Revival attempt?))

Shurong Ray

"You want red or blue?" The foreign man at the register asked Shurong abrubtly. His sasuage fingers groped two jars of jolly ranchers. Only two flavors...

"Blue." Shurong replied nonchalantly. Her gaze was afixed on more fire trucks that rushed by outside the shop. The cashier shoved his hand in her face for money. She deposited two dollars into his sweaty palms and took the bag of candies and bottle of coke in her own, stepping out of the store and back onto the streets.

Shurong unrapped one of the plastic covered candies and popped it into her mouth, then shoved her wallet and the bag into her deep pockets.

There were grunts and screams in the alley around the corner. "What the hell?" Shurong exclaimed disgustedly, for what horror could be going on over there? Both voices were male, and all of a sudden she could see one bloody face poke out before hitting the ground.

"Gross..." she muttered to herself. "I don't want to fight. Back home then..."
