A fine layer of snow covered the ground as Shora walked with her mother, looking around the quiet forest glade.
The foal laughed, prancing around in the cold icy stuff. She was always laughing, and always looking for fun things. Shora lunged at a bush as it shook due to a chill wind that blew. She was disappointed to find that…the wind was the only cause for the bush shaking. Why couldn’t it have been a rabbit, or some other animal. That would have been fun! The foal laughed, still prancing, her current path leading her quite a ways away from her mother.
A sound that seemed to be that of someone crying reached Shora’s ears and she turned towards the sound, walking over. She looked around, wondering if she would see another Soq laying there hurt, or some other animal, though all she saw was the trees bending in the wind that continued to blow. The sound was coming from the wind! That was twice that the wind had tricked her, she sighed, pawing at the ground with her hoof, then began walking back to her mother, quite discouraged by her discoveries.
As she was walking, however, a glint of gold caught her eye and she walked over, seeing a beautiful flower. It was sheltered from the tricky wind, protected by a ring of bushes. Shora had never seen such a flower, It was gold one moment then—turn your head a little, and it was a shimmering white, blending in with the snow, the next moment—as the foal touched her nose to the flower, it turned into the same rose color as she was. She let out a happy whicker, finally pleased with her finding. She pranced around in a circle, and bent down, intending to take the flower, but then stopped, thinking. If she picked the flower, it would someday die…and then nobody would get to see its beauty. The foal instead cast one more look at the beautiful thing, before going back to her mother, telling her all about her wonderful findings, and the rest of her day’s adventures.
