In the moments following her declaration, time seemed to slow down to a halt. It felt like everything was moving through water and everything was slowed down to an impossible speed. She saw clearly the expression on Rohan's face, and thus had a long few moments where her heart was screaming at her. She felt like it was hours before he finally grabbed her and pulled her close and, even if she wanted to react, she probably couldn't have. She supposed the only upside in her temporary paralysis was the fact that this was.. exactly what she had been waiting for.
As his lips covered hers, she tensed up, but not because she didn't want it. In fact, Khalla had never had a boyfriend and, thus, had never been kissed (apart from silly cheek pecks passed between her and a boy name Jason in the first grade). So it was simply a matter of being unfamiliar with the situation, though that quickly passed. As she grew used to the warmth of his lips over hers and the feeling of his body being so close, she felt herself relaxing into him. She finally gave in and shut her eyes, reveling in the feeling and the closeness. As he pulled his lips away, her heavy breaths echoed his, and she brought up one hand to touch his cheek as if she wasn't sure he was actually real - that any of it had actually been real. But he was still there, he was still solid, and then he was speaking again.
His words washed over her as she leaned her forehead to his, and despite her slightly panting breaths, she managed to smile through it. Leave it to Rohan to take her breath away and make her laugh all in the same moment. When she finally managed to find her thoughts and fill her lungs again, she leaned back just enough so she could look in his eyes. "Who wants a silly old dead vampire anyway when you can have a living, breathing romeo?" Well, she supposed that he was only a romeo to her - that thought would probably make anyone else laugh, but she knew him.
"Thank you," she managed, drawing a deep breath and stroking her thumb across the top of his cheek bone, "I think you saved our disaster of a date."

To say he was pleased with the results of his actions, was gross understatement; he had no idea what, exactly, he had been expecting from her, but surely it wasn't this. He found, time and time again, that she reacted about as passionately as he did, if not more, and for some reason, the notion kept throwing him for a loop. It was, in his mind, perfectly understandable for him to react the way he did towards her, but he found it particularly... mind boggling that she felt the same for him, as he did her.
Then again, this probably had to do with the fact he just honestly didn't think himself to be that great of a catch. Granted, he didn't have that huge of a self-esteme problem; it was just that thinking logically, and practically, he just didn't know what the girl saw in him. He was disorganised, he was a mess and he was typically rather antisocial when it came down to it, with very little tolerance for most people. Khalla on the other hand, was quite the oposite, so something told him he'd ended up with the better part of the bargain.
He couldn't help but snort very faintly when she finally managed to speak up again, "I don't think I'm a particularly good example of a Romeo," a pause as he shifted her, since she had actually managed to end up on his lap (ironic, given the fact he'd practically called her to come sit there earlier), until she was sitting in a more comfortable position for the both of them, "Nor would I want to be. That particular story ends in a rather tragically after all," he shut his mouth as she began to trace his cheek bone and managed to swallow a lump in his throat, "Mmmm..." it was almost a purr, but no sooner had he made the noise, that he blinked; that had not been what he'd been wanting to say, "Uhm, yes well," he coughed into his closed fist then, and tried to ocupy himself with a few other things, not just the girl on his lap, because he still had the oportunity to ruin date quite easily and he didn't want to, "We still need to 'fix' things before we show up at your house. I don't think showing up shirtless, or dirty will win me any points."
The hand that had been resting on her lower back (in an attempt to support her up), was amusingly enough, mimicing the hand on his cheek as he spoke, "You're welcome, though it should be noted that I feel like I should be the one thanking you, not vice versa."

"Well," she said with a little smile and a gentle pat against his cheek, "we're just going to have to agree to disagree, aren't we?" She seemed calmer than she had been during the tension-building first half of the date and the smile on her face seemed more relaxed and easy than the forced ones from before. She hadn't failed to notice that she was, in fact, now in his lap though. It made her a little nervous and she could feel the faint pink tinge of her cheeks returning, even if that hand against her lower back was comforting - perhaps that was part of the reason why.
"We should start packing up before it gets too late, since we do have to run by your apartment before we go to meet Gran." She glanced down at her half-eaten picnic and smiled sadly. In some ways the date had gone really well, but in others.. Oh well, Gran would probably have a three-course dinner ready when they got back to her house. With care, she began to disentangle herself from his lap and pushed herself up to her feet.
She leaned down and began to put the tops back on all the tupperware containers and the thermos, starting to pack it all back into the basket. She paused with a smile and pulled out the second thermos, turning to hold it out towards him. "There's a full thing of tea left if you want it," she seemed to have just realized that he had been asking for something to drink earlier before they'd gotten awfully sidetracked.

For some odd reason, the fact she'd chosen to pat his cheek, of all things, amused him, as was evident by the way he arched his brow at her. The finger that had been tracing circles on her lower back, also stilled, though only for a moment before he continued, "If you say so. Whom am I to contradict? Though you might want to look up some other, non tragic literary couple the next time you're at the library," despite the fact that logically... she was right, it was also quite obvious that Rohan was rather reluctant to see move to get up.
He let out a small sigh, then nodded his head as he stretched to reach out for the shirt. It seemed like during their awkward conversation and later shenanigans... the shirt had actually dried off, so Rohan slipped back into it and smoothed it over his chest, turning to gaze at the stain on it. It wasn't that bad of a stain, really, but he really didn't want to show up like this; if the grandmother had a mind that worked half as strangely as his did, she was bound to ask questions that he didn't really want to have to answer.
He stood and stretched out the kinks from his arms a bit before turning to look at Khalla when she spoke, "I...was actually going to refrain from mentioning it a third time, but since you're offering, I'll drink it on the way to the car," he took the thermos and eyed her, "This time, I think I'll open it," he actually managed to do so rather uneventfully, and then, once he noticed she'd packed up everything, he extended his hand for her to take, "It's a pity I feel I have to honor that invitation, because right about now, I'd rather be showing you how much I'd meant my earlier words," and with that said as food for thought, he turned around, ready to leave.

She had just closed the lid on the basket and pushed herself up to her feet when he held out his hand for her. For a moment, she just smiled at him, pleased that he was such a gentleman. "I think all the great couples probably involve some type of horrible tragedy, otherwise we wouldn't know about them." She walked forward and stood before him, staring up at him. "But I'll see if I can't find some next time in the library with nothing better to do."
She moved the basket from her hand to instead hook over her lower arm, watching him from lowered lids as he tried to get the top off the thermos. Part of her was pleased that he managed it so uneventfully, though another part was a little let down that he managed to - she would have liked to have not been the only nervous screw up.
Regardless, she reached out and took his hand in hers, lacing their fingers together. She shifted the basket from her hand, hooking it over her lower arm instead, and then fell into step beside him. "Well," she began slowly, choosing her words carefully, "anticipation always makes things better. Besides, if you got everything you ever wanted in one day, what would you have left to live for?" She offered him a smirking know-it-all kind of smile, but said nothing else. As much as she'd have liked to spend more time with him without her leering grandmother, she knew it would be better to draw it out rather than risk her confidence all in one go.
As they began to fade off into the distance, she turned only a second to look back at the spot that had actually turned out to be pretty lucky for them. She knew she'd always remember it, even if the date had started poorly, and even if they never visited it again. With a pleased smile she turned back ahead, leaving it behind happier than she had arrived.
