PFFFFT. Those are nothing compared to what we had to do.

Our practice field is next to a parking lot. Separating the parking lot from the field is an old concrete curb. While watching us run through our show, our Coordinators usually try to balance and walk along the old curb. One of our Coordinators, Ben, was balancing on a particularly old piece of the curb. The curb, being old, broke away from the rest of the curb.

Now, this is no small piece of curb, a whole section broke off. The approximate dimensions were 10"x8"x8" - of concrete. Ben stopped us in the middle of us rehearsing. He told us, while holding up The Block (as we would soon learn to call it, and a dreaded name it was indeed), that if the brass players couldn't keep their horns 10º above parallel to the ground, then we would have to hold it.

Apparently me, being Trumpet section leader, was prime choice for the first to hold the damned thing. "My horn was 10º above parallel, though," I said. "I know," Ben responded, "You're the example."

And so ends the story of Sine the average-built Trumpet player, and begins the story of Sine, the Trumpet player with buff arms.

We couldn't let the damn thing down, either. If we did, more time would be added on to how long we were already holding it for.

Needless to say, it sucked. A lot.

That is quite bad, But I know the point got accross, If I ever become section leader or a drum major in my next four years of band, I'm gonna be like that guy.
Oh and what grade are you in?

Currently, I'm a Junior. For 2011-2012 I'll be a Senior.

Nice! Keep at it, man. If you're enjoying music and such, then marching band will definitely elevate that level of enjoyment.

Also, I wish we had more tubas...

Aww, But we have one tuba who can over power any other tuba players there

Very, and then jumping jacks and squats just become ten times harder

At band camp, we have this thing called freshman initiation and all the freshman have to march the show by themselves! Glad to be a sophmore this year!

It used to be run a lap around the field, which hardly even a punishment. Now, they have discovered planks... otherwise known as the devil if you are not very fit! Those things burn after 1 min and after that it hurts pretty bad. However, we will all be pretty fit by the end of the season. : D

New band director=new staff=new program. It also means PT. I. Hate. PT. We all do. Its a "warmup", but a lot of times its a punishent.

One day I remember at band camp specifically was the second day. We had to do wall sits for 2 minutes, but because someone fell down, they added about 5 minutes tot he original 2 minutes. So. Painful. Better yet, afterwords thye made us crab walk across the gym. Sounds easy/fun, until after you do those stupid wall sits. Its harder and more painful then it sounds. We then proceeded to running backwards and then flopping on the floor for army crawls, ocne again across the gym. I laughed at all the girls in short shorts(I don't wear em. Fat thighs haha. So i wear bermudas or capris) because after those army crawls, their thighs were red and sore from rubbing against the floor. I was one fot he only girls without that problem.

Wow, i'm so glad to not have any of your band directors. I would like to say my band director is pretty chill. Shes awesome.. But if we act up we'll be disapointed in us If shes really angry with us we'd do a lap around the footbal field. and at points if were out of step or if we missed the step off we'll do 'im a star' jumpingjacks, or 4 or 5 pushups. Its not that bad compared to what i've read on here.. muahaha~ biggrin
