Bchan This was posted in the DS live journal community, and I think it's important to share:
WARNING! YOU NEED TO READ THIS!!! Everybody, please BE CAREFUL when you make a trade with a shady person. This will seriously become a bigger issue once more people learn about this. Ok, so I was doing a transaction with someone that said they'd give me a Metroid for free. I was all "yayyy" about it, until seconds after the initial transaction. A friend came in to the gate seconds after and behold, I could see that this other person was HACKING my game! My gate had turned into a Museum! I quickly powered off so everything was okay, but I couldn't have been so lucky if it wasn't for my friend coming in at that presice moment. If your gate turns into a Museum, you won't be able to get on Wifi Mode anymore without restarting your entire game Other people on the forum quickly began complaining that their gates had turned into a museum. Now they are stuck with a Museum Gate. I really don't know ways to prevent this and as of right now there's no way to fix this, but please just be careful! You could lose either any chance to go online or your entire town if you find yourself attacked by anybody doing this. Oh, and watch out for this person: code: 5025-7505-3343 name: Griefer town: LOL If this has happened to you(copied and pasted from somebody in the Gamefaqs forum): 1.get a friend to activate Immigration Mode 2.Grab all the bells & items you can 3.move to a friends town 4.if you still have items you want, move back & nab em 5. Create a new town 6. move back. Moral of the story: BE CAREFUL who you invite to your town! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Not all hackers are bad. I went to someone's town and they had some really weird stuff goin' on. There was a rock maze and they seemed to have the ability to make anything appear! xxxxThat doesn't mean they're bad. Sometimes people just want to experience more. Sometimes people want to be creative and need to stretch the limits of the game to do so. If I had AR of Gameshark in my hand, I'd do some creative things without being careless. xxxxUnfortunitly, there are people who have AR, are creative, and feel like experiencing everything there is. They want to see what it's like to actually hack someone's game (probably for the first time). Who knows? Maybe these people are planning to change it back when they are done, but if you turn the power off, they can't come back into your town to fix it! xxxxThe point is, and I know it sounds strange, give hackers a chance.

I'm finding it hard to connect to Wifi at the minute. I've had animal crossing for 2 weeks or so now and I have a BT Broadband wireless router adn whenever I try to connect so that I can be issued a friend code, it says that there is no available acess point. Do I have to be on the Nintendo website or something for it to properly connect? I really wanna visit other people's towns and it's annoying me that I can't so any technical help would be appreciated. Thanx alot people

I found this about that error on wikipedia: Quote: Recently, a bug was exploited by someone known only as ACFan2006 using a cheat device which would turn the receiver's town gate into a museum, preventing any multiplayer play, Wi-Fi or LAN. The built-in Metroid item was used to trick people to opening their town gates to a stranger. On February 20, 2006, a GAME VIRUS threat made by some hackers started circulating around the Internet saying that they would go into people's towns on Wi-Fi and destroy them by turning their town gate into a museum, preventing any Wi-Fi play or destroying their towns, making it so they can not receive any special visitors, evict all neighbors, prevent new neighbors from moving in, and other threats, such as recklessly chopping down trees. These hackers can supposedly go to others' towns without knowing their friend code and wreak havoc. The integrity of this threat is debatable, as nobody really knows who started it. "prguitarman" of Livejournal has described a method to get rid of the museum gate glitch which involves destroying your town and moving to a new one.[1] The AnimalMap editor can be used to correct these problems, without destroying your town. Although, a more common act of present day hackers is to "hack" different items. By doing this, they are able to receive any item of their choosing, including the rare Mario Items which have partially been handed out for Nintendo Wi-Fi events by Nintendo. They then can sell these on Wi-Fi and make money. There is also a way using Wi-Fi to duplicate, or "dupe", items they already own, including money (Bells.) Several users have reported that burying something too close to your town gate and saving the game can also cause the 'Museum Gate' glitch. In addition, it is suggested to give your Friend Code only to people that you trust, as it doesn't take a hacker to wreak havoc in other towns by chopping down fruit trees, sending inappropriate messages to your neighbors or the bulletin board (where they cannot be erased), deleting constellations, or other mischief.

Sorry that happened to you. sad
I remember once I had 2 guests in my town. 1 was exploring around as you know, a guest. The other, Jarrod, was going to buy two crowns off of me. I let my first guest, Mike, aware of this and told him not to inturrupt the transaction. However, as soon as Jarrod starting dropping the bells, Mike started taking them.
I hate hackers and scammers. ' crying '
