Aido's head snapped back and she almost backed into an innocent passerbye, nearly fleeing on instict. She couldn't handle that biting tone from someone she considered a friend; but what had she done to make things worse?
"I didn't-don't want anything else, I just wanted to say my apology," she stated quietly as she hugged her sides, not letting go even as an old injury started to complain.

Nalira glowered, shaking her head, biting the sides of her mouth. Her face was contorted in suppressed anger and her jaw was clenched almost painfully. It was true, Aido hadn't done anything to make the situation worse, so why was she so angry?
"You're so self absorbed." The words were spilling from her mouth, she couldn't stop them. "The world doesn't revolve around you, Aido. Stop being so selfish and think about others once in a while." Nalira bit down hard on her tongue. Aido was most selfless person she had ever met, how could she say that?

"I-o...oh," Aido looked up, caught Nalira's infuriated gaze and looked back at the ground. How was she being selfish? Apologizing was selfish?
No, Nalira just didn't want her around her then. She must've hinted at it and Aido just... hadn't caught it. That was the only explanation.
"I'm... I'm sorry to have taken up you're time then, please forgive me," she concluded finally. Without waiting for a reply from the other girl Aido pivoted on her heel and bolted in the opposite direction, startling a woman into nearly dropping her groceries.
Rael halted and shivered slightly but didn't make to go after Aido just yet.

Nalira opened her mouth to snap once more, but hesitated. Where those footsteps? No, they couldn't be. Aido couldn't, wouldn't run away. Aido wouldn't leave her. Nalira whimpered, leaping from Rael and rushing forward. She'd ruined their friendship, she'd ruined everything.
"Aido .." She croaked, bolting forward. It is common knowledge not to run when you can't see anything, and Nalira abruptly remembered as she collided with someone standing in the street. She fell backwards, hitting her head hard against the snow-covered ground. The pain in her head temporarily deafened her from the profanities that were being screamed at her.
Nalira groaned, sitting upright and rubbing her head tenderly. She stood shakily, straightening herself out and brushing the snow from her knees. There she stood; alone, broken, ashamed. She was unaware of the leers and occasional glances she was recieving, and even if she did she wouldn't care. She'd just lost one of her best friends.
"Aido .." She whispered, sinking to her knees, raising her hands to hastily wipe the tears falling from her eyes.

Aido was far too far away to hear Nala fall or her name being called. She just kept running until the voices in her head, which were feverently trying to work everything out, were muted by the pounding of her footsteps and the dull pulsing pain in her side.
Rael moved forward slowly, silently hoping Aido pulled a similar move. Maybe the two Tales would snap some sense into themselves that way.
Swishing his tail Rael sat down by Nalira, -so, are you going to just sit here and freeze or...?- the shadow glared at a man who'd leered and bared his teeth, forcing him to quickly move on.

Nalira whimpered, wringing her hands together gingerly. What was she going to do? She chewed on her bottom lip, a little harder then she had intended, letting out a sharp breath of pain.
"Did I ask for your help? I don't need help from you." She snapped, turning to glare at Rael. Damnit, shut up. She cursed herself under her breath, mentally beating herself. Why would she snap at Rael, too? He was only trying to help. What was wrong with her?
"I'm sorry, please don't go." She whimpered, swinging her body around to cling to the shadow-like horse, tears streaking her face once more. "I didn't mean to say that to her, or you. I don't know why I said it, it isn't true." She whined, tightening her grip in fear he might leave.

Rael tolerated the verbal abuse with silence and huffed out a cool breath when Nalira began to cry. He nuzzled the Tale's tear stained cheek with his maw and wrapped his tail gently over her back.
-I won't. And yes, I know, she doesn't and you're probably the only one who honestly has any inkling as to why you're saying these things,- he answered shortly, though there was no edge to his tone.

Nalira cuddled into the shadow-like creature, trembling as the snow melted into her clothes. She let out a sharp breath as the icy cold material clung to her already frozen body, coughing into her hand violently.
"Even I don't know why I'm saying these things." Nalira whispered, feeling her confidence deflate quickly. "I have to find her, but I won't get very far giving the current situation. Uh .." She looked up at Rael hopefully, smiling sheepishly.

Rael rolled his eyes a bit, -yes, of course I can give you a ride. Come on.- He lay down fully beside her, pressing his abdomen against her hand to show her clearly where it was.
-But then we're coming straight back and getting you two someplace warm. Silly girls, you both seem sillily bent on freezing yourselves.- Rael scoffed a bit, flicking his tail and feeling out for where Aido had gone.

Nalira smirked, throwing her leg over the beast easily, wrapping her arms around his neck easily. She clung onto him desperately, as if still afraid he'd leave her, despite being on his back.
"Thank you for this." She whispered thankfully. It was a simple sentence showing her gratitude, but it showed it nonetheless.

Rael's head and neck bobbed in recognition of the grititude and thin tendrils of shadow snaked around Nalira's ankles, a small assurance that he wouldn't let her fall off.
The Shadow sniffed, searching until he caught his Companion's scent. With a ripple Rael set off at a fast trot down the street. Quickly all the staring people became too cumbersome to deal with and he smoothly leapt up, onto a windowsill and then again onto a roof and continued on , easily jumping the gaps between rooftops and never breaking his pace.

Nalira let out a soft cry when the shadows snaked around her ankles, but smiled at the reassurance. She sighed heavily, thinking of how to apologize to her long-time friend.
'Er, sorry Aido.' No, that was pathetic.
'Um, sorry for lashing out, I was out of line.' Hmm, getting better.
'Sorry about lashing out at you, Aido. You didn't deserve it. What I said was a result of me bottling up my emotions for far too long. I was out of line, and didn't even lash out the truth. You aren't selfish, you're the most selfless person I know. I'm really sorry, Aido. Can you forgive me? ' Perfect.

Rael hopped off the last rooftop and bounded into the forest, lacing around trees and slowling as they began to near where Aido was.
Trees, it seemed whenever she was upset and dedcided to shadow walk she ended up in a tree.
Aido had run until her side had hurt too much to continue then had bolted into a shadow and was now curled up against the thick, lowlying branch of an elm tree. One slightly icy hand was pressed against the warm, lightly pulsing flesh over her ribs and she rested her cheek on her curled knees, quietly muling over the situation. Apologizing hadn't worked before and she was just at a loss as to what to do except maybe simply avoid her longtime friend (were they still friends? Arrrg) so Nalira didn't have to deal with her.
The shift in the shadows pulled her out of her thoughts, perking she uncurled and silently looked about for the source.
Rael slowed to a walk then stopped a few feet away, catching Aido's gaze and nodding a greeting.

Nalira was abruptly swept away from her thoughts as they slowed to a halt. She naturally assumed that Rael had found Aido, and hence slid from his back, wringing her hands together gingerly and taking a few steps forward.
"Uh, hi." She whispered meekly, taking in a deep breath and waving sheepishly. "Aido, I .. well I'm .. what I meant to say is .. uh," She was stumbling over her words. This wasn't as easy as she had previously thought. She choked down the lump that was forming in her throat, shifting her weight from one foot to the other awkwardly.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean, well, at the time I did, I mean .. no, what I said wasn't true. You're not selfish, you're the most selfless person I've ever met." She swallowed, lowering her head shamefully.
"You're one of my best friends, and I was out of line. I don't know why I said what I did, well I do, but at the same time I don't," She sighed, closing her eyes. "I'm really sorry."

Aido nearly tried to interupt Nalira, but was silenced by a sharp, voiceless snap from Rael.
Shifting she slid off the branch and landed with a fair amount of ease on the ground, but she didn't move forward, instead settling for wringing her hands in her scarf, "I-" she paused and looked away, trying to find Nalira's meaning in the jumble of slightly contridicting words.
She didn't know whether to forgive or question, but she felt like she was making the situation worse with her indecision. "Nala, you're one of my best friends too..." 'and I forgive you (if you're looking for forgiveness)? But I don't understand why you'd say something to me that you say you don't believe is true?' she bit her lip, neither seemed like good responses.
Aido shook her head, took a few steps forward and hugged her friend tightly.
