NeoRaptor99 haha our Freshman Band is better than our Symphonic Band cause they still care its some what sad I wish it wasnt me and like 5 other people that actually care in the symphonic band Well, at least it isn't just my school like that. But still, its kinda sad. lolz. The freshmen were always the ones that actually cared. So, whatever happens between freshie and senior? I personally don't know cuz I love mah band. wink EAHS Marching Bears.

I'm a freshman, and only one of us, just one, sucked. He has no business on his instrument either, a high school student who can't keep rythym or read his key signature, needs to rethink his class schedule, now he wants to be in te Jazz Band, even though he was the only 8th grader last year who wasn't in the Jazz Band. The FRESHMAN! hate him.

Dude, I'm a freshmen, and even i say that freshmen suck. We're cocky, vile, self-absorbed creatures who will unfortunately take over the world one day. >.>

I'm a freshman and my band isn't cocky, in fact it would probably be helpful if more of us were, I'm second to last chair and the others deserve to be ahead of me, IF they don't drop out in the middle of a phrase!

Our Freshman are the most chattiest people you will ever meet. The Flute section is the worst, I have to deal with talkative girls for more than an hour. Our director get's to frustrated all the time with them, you tell them to shut up, they'll be quiet for like 2 minutes and then start talking again. I could really ramble on and and on about this, I really could.

Here's what I see about like all freshmen this year, at all schools: They don't have a lot of discipline. They might be good, but their respect is terrible. Band is synonymous with respect. I'm a senior this year, I've seen it happen. A lot.
There are a lot of good marchers and players out there, in every band, and in the band I'm in. But the seniors complain about the underclassmen because they don't have a lot of respect for "us." They don't listen and think they're hot because they can catch on really fast and memorize music. We all have to do that, so it's nothing special. The underclassmen complain because the seniors and upperclassmen are too hard on them. That's because there's a lack of discipline there. People who have been in band for a few years already know a thing or two more than the freshmen and sophomores.
IN SHORT: Everyone should just try to get along, and if an underclassmen has something relevant to say, like if a junior is WAY out of form, anyone should listen. Same for seniors and upperclassmen, and if they have something to say, just listen and don't talk back.
Sorry, this was kind of venting. 99.999% of this stuff was directed at my band, but if it applies to anyone else, I'm glad.
Also, I'm not saying this in thoughts that ALL of them do it, but I have a question for everyone: Do you think that once freshmen become sophomores, they act like they know everything and start harassing the freshmen themselves? Like I said, not EVERYONE does it, but there's a good number in every band that does. It's like, you were a freshmen a few months ago...what are you doing?
Ergh, really sorry guys. Like I said, all of this is basically about my band. So now you all know about it...lolcaryband.

I think that it's a kind of thing like whether the chicken or the egg came first. Did the freshmen start it, or the seniors? And even freshman talk down to middle school students in some cases.
I think that a lot of arguments between seniors and freshman are misunderstandings. They dont know each other well, so nobody can tell if the other is being sarcastic and disrespectful, or just joking around sarcastically.
Overall, if people stopped yelling on one side, the yelling would stop. But thinking further it'd probably have to be the seniors that stop if my earlier hypothesis is wrong, because if the freshman stopped, the arguments would be shorter, but I doubt they would stop. It's be like a watered down and small scale version of slavery if the freshman didn't fight back when the seniors actually are wrong.
As a different point, a lot of freshman have quit band because the seniors kept hazing and/or giving crap to the freshman for the tiniest mistake. That's in high school overall, not just one. Mine is fine for the most part...just a small group of people need to go lighter there.

I just don't see it. Why was this thread created when there are a lot of freshmen on here, too?
Yeah, I understand that it's a way to vent. But it does hurt.
I think everyone in ALL BANDS EVER should get along.

i'm a freshman our band doesn't really have any problems with upperclassmen or freshmen what so ever, except for meybe next year, i don't like certain people in that group...... evil anyways everybody gets along fine, and if there's a problem we get over it quickly. another reason that might be ourband director acts like a kid too 3nodding

I was a freshman once, just like you were. I was told my very first week of BAND CAMP that I sucked. I couldn't keep my feet in the right beat. I walked more than I marched. Big whoop. I am now a senior and doing very well with the marching and playing, even though I still have problems staying on the right foot. I don't care who anyone is and how great they are: we all start off terrible, horrible, lame, sucky, etc.
I can understand some things: a freshman is just fresh out of middle school. They're ready to be someone. They're ready to be top dog already. Yes, some of them have a severe respect/attitude problem, (like the ones from my band this year stare ) but they still have a lot to learn. Not saying anything bad about freshmen. I have respect for freshmen because they want to join marching band, and it can be rough. But anyone can't say that as a freshman they were outstanding. I sure as heck wasn't. I was told I sucked by a sophmore (who I did respect).
Don't take it out so harshly on them. They don't know all the stuff that you know. So what you could do, instead of venting about what they are doing wrong, teach them how to do it right. That french horn that tripped you up might appreciate the adive you give him/her and take it and absorb it and teach it to another kid one day. Trust me, it'll be great when you see how well they are doing. I'm always proud of my saxes when they march right, and help out when they are having trouble.
