My dad didn't use heavy machinery around me as a kid. He was a housing officer. And he was also a local councillor so he sometimes got some advanced technology for his work at the time. Like a fax machine and a "brick" mobile phone.
I was more exposed to the screechings of his old Sinclair Spectrum, though and most weekends he used to play electronic music from as far back as the 70s to as modern as the (then) current 90s stuff. In fact when I was five I used to dance jump the living room singing to the english version of Das Modell by Kraftwerk (And the floor under the carpet was stone so it really toughened up my feet. Lol)
I'm on a games design course at college. And one of the tutors played a video with the screechings of the loading of a Sinclair tape and I was the only one in the room enjoying it.
Here's a spectrum for you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlsDmALohQQIt's that bit at the start. And I used to just sit listening to it and love it back when I was toddler-preschooler age. I also played my first videogame on it around the same time.
Then my dad sold his spectrum. He's regretted it ever since.
