-two orange spots on the back of the head - hair?

-antennae - bumps on the top of his head covered by hair?
-"second wing" shell - just in the form of the shell on his body/limbs?
-wings - perhaps, vestigial with maturity?
Behavior
-promiscuous - grows into that?

--the kind of polygamy in which a female pairs with several males, each of which also pairs with several different females.
-carnivorous: poison paralizes then liquifies insides like a spider

description Background  (working on integrating the following) 1 2 3 4Background notes. Please ignore as they're just a rough draft.The government first started using firefly DNA on the prisoners. Sometimes they don't make sense when they do things (like have you heard of glow in the dark plants? it was a real government thing) so I figured they would want their inmates to glow in the dark for easier targeting or SOMETHING.
The problem is there are more than one kind of firefly. One type, photinus (like my character's name), the male of the species lights up to attract females. But sometimes he attracts the female of another type of firefly, the photurus, and these fireflies are carnivorous. They eat the boys. So what happened is that the wrong DNA got mixed in, and though everyone could glow in the dark, some of the predatory aspects of inmates were heightened (they had photurus) and preyed on the weaker inmates. So if one inmate was in there for murder, he went on a killing spree. If one inmate was a rapist, you can imagine what he did. Thieves stored up large caches of stolen items, and their cells started to look like a dragon's lair. In the end there weren't many survivors.
So the government decided that the inmates were a bad "control group" for their experiment. They wanted to use a group of normal people, so they used a bunch of teens that were in group homes (like foster care). This probably wasn't even a good idea as a lot of these kids had horrible home lives before and were a little messed up to begin with. As you can imagine, the results were about the same.
Photinus, my boy, was one of the kids in this group home. He was fairly normal but for whatever reason he was without his parents. He was one of the kids who ended up with the photinus DNA, and managed to survive.
I'm thinking that he was traumatized by one of the other boys when the DNA effects were raging. I haven't decided if there were girls at the home or not; there would be a lot more victimization of the girls if that was the case. Either way, he was a survivor and was probably debriefed on what happened at the prison. All in all, he would have a mild phobia (if not a full blown one) of men in general.
