Citrine watched in awe as Aila's pokemon were able to spread their attacks over such a wide range. That was kind of amazing. Nornsteen didn't really have an attack like that. But she could use both fists!
"Nornsteen! Use both your fists and take out as many as you can!" She looked up at the branches where Bingo was perched. "You could help Bingo. Come down here and use gust please."
"Pii." Bingo ruffled his feathers a little before taking his time to take flight again and circle the picnic area. When he found a good angle where he wouldn't blow any bugs at either of the humans he began flapping his wings, gusting several of the bugs... right at the other three pokemon.

Revenant spun out of the way of the bugs-turned-projectiles, dodging gracefully and glaring at Bingo with an irritated "misdreeeaa." One of the Shedinja struck Fleur squarely on her head, and the Ivysaur rubbed at the sore spot with one of her vines. She regarded the Pidgey with an offended expression.
Some of the other park-goers were beginning to leave due to the commotion. Aila could only hope the Shedinja would take a hint to do the same.

Nornsteen hit one of the shedinja back at the pidgy. The pokemon that bounced off ivysaur used confuse ray. The attack set off a chain reaction of attacks from other confuse rays, to furry swipes, to sand attack. The shedinja didn't seem bothered by attacking each other as well as the pokemon the girls were commanding.
"Bingo! That doesn't help! Try and blow them away from here... blow them towards the tree line! Please!" Citrine pleaded with her pidgy again. "Use gust once more."

"Get rid of them!" Aila demanded. "Fleur, Vine Whip! Revenant, Astonish!"
The intent was for Astonish to corral the shedinja back towards the trees and for Vine Whip to seize any of the stragglers and toss them back whence they came. Things wouldn't go so smoothly, however, with the maelstrom of attacks from the bugs. Fortunately the shedinja suffered just as much damage as their threats did, but the combination of confusion and lowered accuracy alongside the pure physical damage they took made their feat considerably more difficult. Though they were able to push back the bugs' line considerably, the battle was a veritable siege and wore on the pair's stamina. It was not too long before Revenant staggered back away from the fray, exhausted and doubting that such gracelessness was worth her time.
"Are you well, Revenant?" She sifted through her pockets in search of a potion.

Bingo grabbed a shedinja in it's claws and flung it aside, growing tired of this whole ordeal. But amidst the confusion, and pokemon running into each other, injuring themselves and others, they seemed to be retreating. It wasn't long before they were scuttling off in all directions, away from the 4 pokemon and the girls. A couple people who hadn't fled the scene could deal with the ones that scattered in their direction.
When their area was finally free of the ghostly bugs, Citrine ran up and hugged her Haunter, looking up at Aila and her pokemon. "You're an amazing trainer." She said softly before letting go of her pokemon and going to the picnic basket. She had some berries and lemonade that she handed to Nornsteen. "Are your pokemon ok?"

Aila started slightly at the unexpected compliment. "Thank you," she said, locating the potion she sought and treating Revenant's minor wounds. "You, too, handled yourself quite well. Impressively, even." The nature of the feat the pair and their pokemon accomplished may have been innately impressive. They had just fended off a massive number of terrible monsters, after all.
Revenant shook herself and moved away from the human that so relentlessly invaded her personal space, a brief moment of eye contact serving as her only thanks. Aila sighed at the ghost's indifference and turned to Fleur, inspecting the Ivysaur for signs of significant injury. "They're all right," she replied, content with her findings. "Yours?"

"Haunt haunt!" Nornsteen gave Aila a thumbs up at her concern before opening the lemonade that had been handed to her and drinking it.
"Nornsteen says she's fine now." Citrine chuckled. Bingo perched on Citrine's shoulder and nipped at her ear a little. "I know I know." She said to the bird before fishing out a couple berries. "Bingo doesn't like potions, so I have to give him berries to restore his strength, unless it's an emergency." When bingo had taken the berries, she scratched under the birds chin a little. "Where did you learn to battle?"

Aila made something of an amused sound in response to Nornsteen's affirmation and nodded at the explanation on berries. It was good information to keep in mind should she encounter similarly picky pokemon in the future. Briefly she found herself thankful that Fleur was not as particular about healing items as she was about her meals.
"My older sister taught me the basics," she lied. "She went on a pokemon journey and taught me the things she had learned when she returned home." I learned out of necessity and the explanation that would invariably follow simply didn't seem like an answer that spoke well for her occupation.

"Wow, you're kind of lucky. I was handed an egg by mom mom and told that the pokemon that hatches is mine. Then... was sent off on a journey. I really only knew what I'd learned watching other trainers, which really wasn't much because I didn't see too many trainers unless they were dropping off or picking up pokemon. So I've really been flying by the seat of my pants here, trying to be a good trainer. I've gone to every library and book store I've come across, and I'm sure I have the basics. I try and talk with every trainer I meet to learn more. Some day, I'll be a proper trainer."

"A rough way to learn, certainly... It sounds as thought it would have a certain thrill to it, though, doesn't it? Learning on your own is difficult, but in the end you'll be able to have that much more pride in your abilities than if you had had them spoon-fed to you by another." ...Said the girl who studied viciously at every opportunity in preparation for every situation she could fathom.

"Well, I suppose that's true. I mean, I am really glad that everything I've done, I've done on my own." She blushed a little and looked down at the table. "Beating a trainer who thinks they know everything because they went to pokemon school, or because their family were great trainers... I guess I have a bit of smug pride in that. It's probably wrong of me to take joy in that, but I like knocking them down a peg." She laughed. "You know what I mean?"

"I can understand the sentiment completely," Aila replied with a sage nod. She had a small, internal wish to do just that to a certain agent and his Vaporeon. The cause was slightly different, perhaps, but the basic motivation was the same. "I don't believe there's anything wrong with that manner of pride at all. There is no shame in feeling joy for accomplishing something, yes? Especially when that something was accomplished of your own will and power."
