※❂Mortal Demeter❂※
╚═══════════════╝

My wish is to be happy,

She walked in silently, not wanting company from the other gods. She was in a playful mood. Some of the mortals and immortals were enjoying their time. Hiding her immortal scent from the others, she conversed with an unknown man. Demeter and him were flirting, but Demeter made sure she was in control of him more. Moving to a darker spot, she and the man sat in a both, kissing and playfully touching, adding a drink of their alcohol into the mix.

But even as a goddess, I am not.

╚═══════════════╝

Dionysus’ whole being seemed to perk up when Ate acknowledged him, and he immediately got to his feet, “Oh, I do like a little madness from time to time..” He whispered, doing just as Ate had suggested about bringing some wine with him that he snatched from the counter as soon as the bartender set it down.

Despite the fact he knew Ate’s current condition would be far from stable, he waltzed out of the bar behind her, with a strange spring in his step. He just had to see this. He hadn’t seen any worthwhile entertainment such as this in quite a long time.

When he was outside he glanced around, briefly assuming Ate had run off and he prepared himself to pout in disappointment, but he spotted her skulking off to one side of the bar and stood before her with a curious shine to his eye.

“So, dear Ate, are you going to explain yourself? Or do I have to guess why you stormed out with such beautiful rage?” He staggered slightly, but caught himself immediately, taking a long, cheerful sip from his glass as he leaned down to eye-level with Ate, “I have to admit, that performance of yours would make many of my actors jealous... Your raw emotion simply shone through.”

It was teasing, of course it was, but it was brotherly teasing. Dionysus could never really be serious unless he was upset, and right now he was far from it. He wanted to help Ate, but all he knew to do was put on a show and try to cheer her up through his strange dramatic acting that he found so amusing when others did it.

Goddess of Ruin

Some Fall from Heaven

Ate was focussing on taking deep breaths, trying not to cry. She wouldn't cry. Not anymore. Her human brown eyes were more red than brown now, and she looked anywhere but back at Dionysus. Knowing if she did, she would lose her battle with the tears. Out of all the gods and goddesses, Dionysus was probably the only one she would consider calling a friend.

With a great sniff, Ate wiped at her cheeks with the corner of her sleeve, afraid a tear had escaped her watch. Two young couples, obviously tourists, walked by, each holding the hand of their partner and Ate glared at them. Two steps later both couples were at each others throats in a great fight.

"He's back..." She said, finally answering her brother. "He came back yesterday and then disappeared sometime in the night without a word." She didn't want to say his name, he hadn't come out of the bar yet and she refused to sound any more pathetic and needy than she already did. "He's been gone five hundred years and came back only to tease me and leave me." A tear or two fell then and she kicked a can at her feet and looked at the sky.

"I thought I was crazy. I thought I had dreamt him being there with me...and that Morpheus was playing some cruel joke...but no. He came back and then he left again without a word." She wasn't really thinking that he'd come looking for her.

"I just want to wreck something!" She clenched her teeth and threw out a hand, sending a mail truck into a light post two blocks up. Paper and packages rained like snow. "I hate it here! I hate this life! I hate being trapped between realms with no choices. It's like a prison that mocks me." She finally looked at her brother then...expecting him to take his leave. He wasn't much on a party crasher and she had done better than that. She'd crashed the party and dumped all her womanly emotions on him.

“Five hundred years is a pretty long time, I have to admit...” Dionysus mumbled to himself, a little surprised just how serious this situation truly was. But, now that he did know, he had really expected Ate to react worse. Perhaps killing someone in her rage or something of that fashion.

But then he changed his mind and decided that would be a bad thing.

He sighed heavily, sympathetically, and placed a hand gently on his sister’s shoulder, his head shaking slightly as he tutted, “There is no need for you to punish yourself like this, Ate... I know you are hurt, but there is no reason for you to make it worse for yourself. The more you dwell on emotions like this, the worse you will feel... and we don’t want that, do we?”

The corners of his mouth began to twitch upwards in to a comforting smile, but the smile seemed... nervous and awkward, as if he wasn’t sure if it was the best time to smile or not. He would give it a go at least, just to see if it helped or not.

“And I know your banishment is a hard thing to take... but I am here, aren’t I? You’re not completely cut off from the realm of the Gods. You may not be able to come to us, but we can surely visit you..” He waved the hand he held his wine in towards the bar, “There are some fine examples right through that door, actually... And perhaps not all of them would be willing to keep you company, but I surely would love to. After all, I love the attention, and I know how to have some fun, with or without a party. It’s not much, but it’s all I can offer. Are you willing to calm down and let yourself go just for now...? I can help you that way.”

Prometheus

Prometheus froze for a moment as Ate rushed past him, the wave of discontent tangible as she went. A split second later, though, she was past him, and he closed his eyes briefly...

He couldn't believe just how much that had hurt... And not the hurt he was used to, either. He was quite well-acquainted with physical pain; getting your liver ripped out on a regular basis did that to you. But this...

It felt like an icy knife in the heart, if gods- or titans, or whatever he was considered- had a heart.

She hadn't yelled. She hadn't exploded at him, she hadn't tried to kill him or some unlucky passerby. She'd... ignored him completely...

He definitely didn't have a plan for this.

As a direct result, he found himself doing something he hadn't done in... millenia. He was going to walk right back into that situation, completely devoid of any level of forethought, and... he believed the current mortal term for it was fly by the seat of his pants. An odd term to be sure, but apparently it fit the situation...

Prometheus turned back to the bar's entrance, taking another deep breath to steel himself, and stepped back out into New York's busy streets, his questing eyes quickly locating Ate mere yards from his current position.

"Ate... I..." He paused, unsure of where to go from there, and decided to start over. "I'm sorry for leaving overnight. Something came up that I wasn't allowed to put off."

Why didn't he have a plan for this yet? He'd seen the situation coming, so why on Olympus hadn't he figured out how to deal with it?

I have planned for everything, so why are they always surprised when I see it coming?

Goddess of Ruin

Some Fall from Heaven

Slender white fingers wiped streams of tears dry as the goddess listened to her brother speak, silently cursing herself. Tears. She, the goddess of ruin! Weeping like a little mortal about how unfair life is and the latest boy to break her heart. It was a disgrace. Maybe she was getting old. Maybe that had something to do with it...

...Or maybe she finally was going mad. Everything Dionysus said was true and right, and had the cause of this morose mood been anyone other than the god of forethought, she would be tearing this city to shreds right now. How was it that love gave someone so much power over you?

Envelopes, paper and styrofoam packaging was blowing down the street from the wrecked mail truck. It swirled in the air carried by the wind and making the street look trashed and dirty. The mess made her feel a little better and when Dionysus put his hand on her shoulder and tried to smile, Ate couldn't help but return the gesture ever so slightly as the corners of her mouth tipped up a little. She reached up with one hand and covered the hand of Dionysus that rested on her shoulder.

"Thank you, brother..." She said simply. "I think I would enjoy letting you help me...Though befriending the others may not be the best of ideas for my current situation..." She shrugged and straightened.

"I'll try to calm down, as you say, but I still don't know what to do about..." Suddenly the door to her right opened and Prometheus stepped out into the street, apparently searching for her. He turned to his left and stopped, staring at her. "...him." Ate finished lamely. She let her head fall back against the building wall and closed her eyes again. She had just begun to feel better and now there went that.

Opening her eyes as he began to speak, apologizing again about leaving, Ate looked at Dionysus in a sort of plea for him not to leave before her eyes went red and she turned to face Prometheus.

"Not allowed." she repeated. "Prometheus, you were gone for half a millennia and I had given up hope you'd come back." She kept her voice low and even, though danger was sparking in her red eyes. "Then you show up days after I make one of the biggest decisions of my existence...and I tell you everything!" She took a step closer to him, her fists clenched at her sides.

"I told you things that could get me thrown into Tartarus!" She nearly lost control of her voice, the last word almost a shriek. Birds and squirrels were scattering to trees farther away from the little scene and for humans were crossing to the other side of the street without seeming to know why. "...And you told me nothing. NOTHING! ...And then disappear without a word." She calmed again and stepped back to stand beside Dionysus, leaning her shoulder against the wall as she crossed her arms.

"Beautiful timing, god of forethought." Her red eyes slowly changed back to brown as her human form was still in use...the fight seeming to drain out of her as she honestly had no idea what to do or say anymore. What had he expected her to think? She trusted him, and when she gave him the most important information she knew, he left her. Poof.

Ate shook her head and looked away from both gods in her presence. She needed another drink.

Dionysus managed to continue to smile at her as she spoke to him. After all, his aim was to calm her, and it had apparently worked perfectly.

Until, of course, Prometheus had to go and show up.

Dionysus had to take the back-seat in this argument, at first anyway, and simply watched as Ate practically exploded with anger before Prometheus, and Dionysus just couldn’t stop himself from grinning, which he craftily hid quickly with his wine glass that he brought to his lips and kept there until his moment of amusement had passed. He always loved when pure emotions erupted from people, and he loved to watch it too. That was obvious due to the fact he was the god of theatre, where emotions were strong enough to shift hundreds of souls at once to tears or laughter or any other beautiful emotion.

When he realised Ate was done he took a simple step forward, his expression suddenly callous and unforgiving (which seemed very real indeed, even if he had been pleasant and cheerful only moments before). He took it to heart that it was his duty to stand up for Ate, as a faithful and caring brother, so he made the rash move of confronting Prometheus directly.

“I believe you should go.” He stated, boldly, his voice as sharp and cold as a blade, “You obviously are doing more harm than good being here, and I think it would be best if you weren’t here at all.”

For someone so obsessed with being cheerful and merry, he sure could pull off being angry pretty damn well.

Prometheus

Prometheus blinked once- the sheer amount of resistance, while not surprising him, wasn't one of the possible reactions he'd thought very likely. Though Dionysus coming to her defense was expected, the seriousness in his tone certainly wasn't. And this new godling in his way, he hadn't seen coming simply because in the heat of the situation he'd missed her presence... ah well, that one wasn't terribly important anyway. Dionysus, on the other hand... That god he had to be a bit careful with.

He took a long step sideways, getting the new godling's hand out of his face without breaking anything, and also giving him a direct line of sight to both Ate and Dionysus. "Dionysus... give me a moment. I haven't been around much, I know. But Ate is my life; let me say my piece... let me try to make up for it."

He turned his attention from the god of wine to the dark beauty beside him. "Ate, listen to me. First of all I would never betray a confidence you hold in me. Ate, you mean the world to me, from Olympus to the underworld and back. Don't you ever doubt that." He took a step forward, watching Dionysus in his peripheral vision in case the party god tried to stop him. "Ate, stop acting like a teenage girl- you're better than that. I know I haven't been around much lately, but I will change that. No matter what pulls me away, I will always return to your side. And..." He paused for the very slightest second, a flicker of anger, true anger, flashing across his face. "Ate, I hate Zeus as much as you do... for the same reasons and more. We will get back at him for it."

I have planned for everything, so why are they always surprised when I see it coming?

Goddess of Ruin

Some Fall from Heaven

Ate watched him skeptically, her brows meeting in a frown that seemed to be caught between anger and confusion as she observed the three immortals. Dionysus was coming to her defense, Nyx appeared out of seemingly nowhere thinking she had some right to order them around and Prometheus was all but holding himself in his skin as Dionysus and Nix stood between them, keeping him from her. She chewed on her lower lip anxiously, her arms crossed over her stomach as her eyes darted around at the little scene.

"Relax, Nyx." she said, annoyed by the intrusion. "The mortals can't see or hear us. There's a glamor hiding this conversation...You're making more of a scene than we are." She waved the goddess off, hoping she would go back into the bar. Although the idea of blasting her there was quite appealing at the moment.

Ate's eyes darted up and a cold knot formed in her stomach as Dionysus made the strong suggestion that Prometheus leave and something inside her mind screamed 'No'. Her red eyes flew to Prometheus' face, her mouth dropping open. It was clear in every muscle there that he was angry. It was taking almost all his strength to keep his self control and Ate had seen him thus only a few times. She was the goddess of rash action, of ruin and delusion and blind folly. Had she succumbed to herself this time? Had she deluded herself into thinking he had betrayed her?

He didn't know how she felt, she never expressed it...but he was her world too. He was the only thing that gave her any peace or any semblance of happiness in this pathetic excuse of immortality. He gave her reason...but did he know how it felt for her when he would vanish like he did? It was abandonment and banishment all over again.

Before she had a chance to speak up, Prometheus stepped forward and around Nyx, completely ignoring her as he glared at Dionysus. The words that followed felt like close fisted blows as each came with the startling assurance of his godhood. Each one was carefully chosen and delivered with perfect clarity and meaning. Each one brought another tear to her eyes.

He was right...but she couldn't find the words to tell him that yet. Her pride was far too large and her shame of distrusting him too grate. ...And she wasn't one for words like he was. Instead she hung her head and closed her eyes, covering them with one hand to hide the tears.
