He may have been a sports fan, but Matthias was no city slicker. He 'lived' in the forests of Washington before coming to Minnesota. he Knew what was hazardous, and what wasn't. he DID however forget the cardinal rule of the forest: do not come into it smelling like civilization. he cursed himself as he followed Fayt. Fayt, what a pretty name. he shook his head to keep him focused. emotions had no place out in the woods. he followed Fayt to the stream, and knew what he must do. he walked past Fayt, further upstream, and removed his jacket and shirt. he dunked the shirt in the freezing water, which caught him off guard, but it was nothing he wasn't used to. he washed not only the blood form it, but also the scent. he took small handfuls of water and cleansed his pants and jacket of their scents and blood as well( he however did not remove his pants.) he then plunged his bare upper torso and head into the frigid waters. he needed to remove the scent so he wouldn't put Fayt at any more risk then he had previously. after he was done removing his various scents, he put on his now damp shirt and jacket, as well as his hat. he rolled the jacket sleeves up to the crook of his elbow again as he walked towards Fayt with bat in hand once more. "I'm sorry to have intruded in your forest. I know that most city folk think they can go where they please with no adverse side affects, but I am not one of those minds." he looked all around him as flashbacks to him being in the forests of Washington flooded his sub-conscious. "There is a beauty to nature that mankind cannot replicate, no matter how hard they try.Wouldn't you agree?"

Fayt sometimes forgot that the forest was beautiful. Of course, she noticed it every second, in the growth of the trees, the sway of the grass. The tensing muscles in an animal waiting to pounce. But most often she was focused on surviving. "You move well... For a Civie." She grinned and cracked her neck. She was mildly surprised that he'd kept up with her pace, but didn't really mind. He'd apparently learned enough about People that he'd grown tired of them, too, and who was she to prevent someone else from defecting? Being a Wildie was more fulfilling anyway. She sat back for a moment, in a bed of pine needles as she rested, her adrenaline finally beginning to beat out of her system. She listened to the forest as she let the scent soak into her clothes.

He smiled, propping the bat against a tree, and hanging his hat and jacket from said tree. "thanks. I'm not too familiar with these woods, but I cruised around the forests of Washington for a long time." he sat against a tree, keeping all his senses opened. "I'm glad I haven't lost my touch." he looked at Fayt. "So why did you come out here. I can tell by your mannerisms that it isn't because you enjoy killing Cougars."

"I didn't like where civilization was heading." She hadn't really ever felt the need to put it into words, but she felt that at least that was correct. "I finally got tired of people being stupid. Of people interfering. It seems that out here is the safest place from all that. People don't tend to care about what happens in the forest, as long as it stays pretty and they can keep meddling in their little portions of the forest..." She sighed, wondering why she couldn't hear anything. At all. Like nothing... She listened for all the sounds of nature that always accompanied her... They just weren't there...

Matthias sighed "So true." he listened for any sound at all, but not an animal was stirring anywhere, and that made him nervous. he put on his jacket and hat, trying in vain to listen for nature, but what he DID hear, chilled him to the core: the Blades of a helicopter. "No, why would one come all the way out here? we're in the middle of nowhere!" he grabbed his bat and swung it at the tree he was sitting at, putting a heavy dent in the poor unfortunate tree. he looked at Fayt, hoping she wouldn't get too pissed. his face was no longer light hearted and happy, it was now a grim visage of loathing. "It seems Mankind has determined that this entire forest is their plaything."

The animal in her told her to bolt... But the human in her wouldn't let her. She heard the chopper soon after Matthias. Her hand tightened with a leather squeak on her bow. Every now and then, the wardens ran flyovers, but they'd just run one... It made no sense why they would be back so soon, unless they'd found something that they were coming back to look at again... Or they had come to meddle more directly. She took off toward the sound at a full sprint, charging through the trees as quickly as she could to get to a clearing and see the chopper clearly.

Matthias Cursed humanity as he ran after Fayt, hoping they would just leave peacefully. he adjusted his hat to block out the sun if he looked up, and he did as such as soon as he reached the clearing that Fayt ran to, hoping to get a good look at the Helicopter.

((Roll doesn't matter, the deer can't be killed by this arrow, and unless it's a one, she'll hit.))
Fayt watched as the meddling people dropped a crate to the middle of the clearing, which broke open, revealing a very spooked deer, which looked around, dazzled by the light before bolting as the helicopter took off toward the deeper woods. Fayt cocked her head, and began sprinting into the middle of the clearing, aiming to take the only shot she'd have at this thing. She looked through the trees as the deer serpentined through them, and she drew her bow to full draw before releasing. She didn't know what these people were doing, but she knew that nothing that had to be airlifted into the forest needed to be there. She watched as she let the arrow fly, and it trailed into the forest before hitting the deer. Through the heart, lodging in its ribcage. But it didn't even falter. It continued, unaffected, bounding through the trees.
Fayt stared, dumbstruck, her bow lowering to her side, her mouth hanging open, as if it had begun to form the word 'what', and gave up, dazed by the unbelievability of the situation.

Matthias' hat, being made of win, shielded his eyes from the sun perfectly. he did see the logo on the side, but the helicopter was going too fast for him to recognize. he saw the deer drop out of the helicopter, and be shot with one of Fayt's arrows. completely no-selling said arrows. a bad feeling rose from the pit of Matti's stomach, and he gripped his bat a little tighter. he knew what he was about to say would probably hurt her a little bit, but it was for Fayt's own good. "Fayt, I think we should get out of these woods as fast as humanly possible." he faced the urban wasteland with disdain in his face. "Deer don't get shot in the heart, and run like the lord of darkness Satan is on their hooves away from that." he looked at Fayt. "I don't think we should be around when that beastie gets eaten."

"I WILL NOT GIVE UP MY WOODS!!!!" She sprinted after the deer, knowing that it was completely hopeless. But still she ran, deeper into the trees. She clutched her bow tightly, and seemed determined to catch the invader. There was nothing right about what she just witnessed, and she wanted it out of her forest. She wasn't going to allow this travesty of nature to live. But as she sprinted, the trail didn't slow, and quickly disappeared, the blood failing to fall. She couldn't understand it. Finally, her considerable endurance gave out, and she dropped to her knees, her breath ragged, her fist pounding into the earth. "AAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!!!" Her head dropped and her eyes searched the ground, unable to pick out the trail any longer. Her shoulders sagged and her chest heaved as her body fought to regain control of itself. Why do they always interfere?

Matthias ran after her, patterning her every movement, not saying a word.as soon as Fayt stopped, he stopped as well, two trees away. he said nothing, for there was nothing to say. he felt the agony in her voice, and he felt it as well.Mankind, a cesspit of hatred and lies. they can't let nature take it's natural course, and try to control it.when will they learn?! he kept his bat shouldered.

"This isn't the end of it. They're doing something else... Whatever it is, it's going to mess up everything. Humans can't do anything right, they're going to overdo something." She stood and faced the mountains, through the trees, near the city. "Well, I guess it's time to head for the hills. There's no point in staying here and waiting for things to go wrong." She nodded to Matthias. "It was nice to meet you. I'm going to my place in the mountains. It's right there on the second highest peak, halfway up, on the east side, if you need to get out. Good-bye." She started toward the mountains at her brisk pace, a determined fire in her eye, but acceptance on her face. She knew that eventually, people would start screwing more with her forest, and she knew that she had always planned on getting out until she knew just how much it would affect the ecosystem. If it didn't need her, or couldn't use her, she shouldn't be there.

Matthias pulled down his god-hat with his free hand, and hid his eyes. "I'll see you, then." he began walking back to his place in Ely. he muttered under his breath. "a lot sooner than you think."
he made it back in to town, staying inconspicuous. he walked towards his apartment at a healthy saunter, knowing that his landlord would be doing his daily routines at this hour. he walks back into his apartment, unlocks his door, and grabs his good 'ol dual barreled shotty plus the ammo. "Never thought I would need you, but, here we are." it took him an hour of walking to get back to his place, so he reasoned he needed to book it, to get back to the place he was when Fayt told him where her place was. he filled a travel pack with his shotty and a change of clothes. Fayt, I'll be there soon. he ran as fast as he could out the door, locking it as he left. he barreled through the town. he wanted nothing to do with civilization at the moment.his bat over his shoulder and the pack on his back, he made his way into the woods. heading towards the mountain.

Fayt made good time to the edge of the trees, and she made the slow ascent to the cave she had picked out for this occasion, complete with a door. The inside was temperate, humid, even, due to the warm-water spring inside it. Yes, she had everything she'd need here. A door, warm water, heat, and some dried meat, enough for a month before she'd have to go hunting, if it came down to that. She sighed and closed the door, walking to a fire she'd had pre-built for light and striking a flint to get it started. The ceiling was properly aerated, making this location primo choice for anyone looking to live in the mountains. She sighed and sat with her back to the wall, watching the fire crackle, too tired to even bother pondering human nature.

Matthias walked through the forest at a healthy saunter. he found an apple tree on his way, and picked a dozen, making note of that spot for later. he put them all in a pocket of his pack that did not in fact have clothes or a shotty in it. he picked an additional one, making it an even 13, shined it, and bit into it to satisfy his hunger. he continued up the route he knew would take him safely up the mountain. he walked up the indicated side, until he saw a cave with a door in it. he had long tossed away his apple, having chewed it down to the nitty gritties of the core. he unshouldered his bat, and rapped lightly on the door with the end of it, re-shouldering it afterward.
