The saxes have a tradition before our home show. We all kneel down, and we have one of the most awesome saxes in the section say a prayer. It's always so fun and so sweet, and I love it. Also, before any competition, the drum majors fist bump every band member, and the section leader hugs all their section and tells them "I love you, don't suck."
We don't do anything for concert band, marching band is where we have the most fun!

Oh. We have a ton. Well, before every performance, each section will make a circle and hold hands and touch feet in the parking lot if we have the time and space. Only the juniors and seniors are aloud to talk, and they have to try and pump you up for the show. Which works. Then, once we get inside and we're about to perform, and we're waiting for the band currently playing to finish, we stand close together and put our hand on the person in front of us's shoulder. We stand silently like that for about 10 minutes.
Another tradition for state is that on the ride over, our buses are escorted by the fire and police departments, and they block off the roads and stuff so that we can just keep going. And along the way, parents and box parents are standing along the roads with signs and stuff. They also put signs on poles and stuff along the road. This year someone had fireworks. ^^ We also have a party the day of BOA, though it usually depends on what time we get. And though it's not big, before we leave, we all touch a plaque hanging by the door, though I can't remember who it's for...
And this is only the baritone section, but we have to get initiated into the section. Which is kind of painful, if you catch my drift. ^^

We have a moment of silence while we're on the bus going to the comp. Then every section has their own thing they do. Our section gathers round and says things we want to get off our chests and minds. Then afterwards when we're leaving the parking lot on our way home, we do the Frosted Flakes chant (Everywhere we go, people wanna know who we are...) but instead of tigers we say Skyhawks.
Oh and also we usually go to Hometown Buffet afterwards too. xd

Silent bus - when we see the stadium where we will be performing, the seniors yell "silent bus" and we must remain quiet with our eyes forward, and we do mental run-throughs of our show. It's to supposedly intimidate our competition, but since the other bands aren't suppose to look at other bands anyway, it really doesn't do us much good. But it's still good to keep going.
The condom (brass only) - The brass section leaders will give their section a condom when we go to the SCSBOA championships. We keep it in the pocket of our jackets to "protect our performance"
The bandana (ww onlys) - the woodwinds always wear a bandana of some sort either to keep their hair out of their face, or they tie it on their arms or legs.
Why did the chicken cross the road? - when we turn onto the street which our school is on, the back of the bus asks "why did the chicken cross the road?" and the front answers "to get to the other side", then immediately following, we sing the alma mater. The colorguard then "sings" their thank you song to the bus driver (we can never understand them. It sounds like they're being raped or something o.e) and then we sing our thank you bus driver song "Thank you Mr. bus driver bus driver bus driver Thank you mr. bus driver thanks for the ride the seats were all lumpy the ride was all bumpy but Thank you mr. bus driver thanks for the ride" (mr/mrs. depending on the driver) Since some of us are retards and cant tell a man from a woman, one of the guys on the bus always emphasizes the mr or mrs, and at the end, he yells "He's a man!" or "She's a woman!" The hill - on the way to football games, there's this hill that we go up and down. on the way up, we do a clicking noise, like a rollercoaster. When we get to the top, we all start screaming with our hands up in the air, which continues until we get to the bottom, where we all yell splash. the same guy that yells after the bus driver song say "I JUST GOT BURNED!" everyone else says "again?" and one of the tuba players says "you slut."
The Final run-through - Let's just say, we are greatly influenced by drum corps XD we all take off our shirts (the ladies of course wear sports bras) for the final run-through of the season.

-We write an "L" on the bottom of one of our shoes whenever we play against our main rivals at a game. -We sing whenever we arrive to a game, competition, etc. -A small group of band members circle and say a prayer before a half time performance. -Seniors get to put up their instruments early in band during concert season. 3nodding -Band Banquet every year. -Halloween party every year. -We usually have a small Christmas party after the Christmas parade, but we didn't this year for some odd reason. -Seniors get to make up "gag awards" for the Band Banquet. -And finally, a new one that I think that is happening is that the band plays at graduation. (This started last year and might happen this year)

We do a band picnic at the park next to our school. We do paper plate awards, which are funny things that happened during the year(For example, lasdt year we had the "Big head" award for my friend who had a custom shako cause none were big enough) The tradition of that is to have the drum majors from that season and the season to come annoucne the awards. During the picnic we have a water fight.
Althoguh...I get the feeling this isn't gonna happen this year. It wouldn't be beyond Harris to ruin this for us all as well...she ruined everythign else...

One of our traditions was to sit around our practice room atleast a good 20 minutes before and give tips to newer band members and usually just sit around and tell band jokes.

OUr band traditions:
Bfore we do a show everyone says the Lord's Prayer. Then the drum majors give us a majog pep talk. When tey are done they will yell "EAGLE BAND!" Then we yell back, " NUMBER ONE!" Then we getin our lineup.
On Senior night (the last home foot ball game not counting districts or states) the seniors give everyone a hug. The seniors wear he old band uniforms then w all march on and do our show. Then we get to give things to our Senior Leaders. Its an amzing night....
Other ones........ Whenever we do a show or any practice for marching band, we warm up on "Ultimate Marching Band Warmups Number 5" and we mark time.. its to help us get totally focused ( I think)

in my band, the night before any comp or game the girls are not allowed to shave our legs...courtesy of the brass section leader...it works...but someone always forgets...so that's why we lost almost every game...shame...
also...at the end of marching season we do the shoe ceremony...where all the senoirs get up and give someone in a lower grade their marching shoes their favorite pair of socks that year or something else that was important to them that year...we only had five senoirs this year and it was incredibly sad...it's always sad...

One of our more major traditions is Senior Night at band camp. The seniors all dress up fancily, like they're going to prom or something, and the freshmen have to serve them their lunch/do what they say, ect... You have to find a senior and anything they tell you to do, you have to. I got lucky and only had to pass messages back and forth. I know someone who had to drink a suicide (all the drinks in the cafeteria combined) and a few people had to dance until they were told to stop.
Also at band camp, we always decorate the rooms we stay in : ) Last year me and my room mate flung streamers everywhere, posted our names in sticky notes on the walls, and also stuck blown up balloons to the wall : )
-edit-
Oh yeah... Whenever we do a full run through of the show (which is when it's cold) we do "naked run throughs", optionally. Everyone strips to shorts and shirtless with girls wearing sports bras. I think some guy actually did it in his underwear last year, but he had something on under them.

In our band, wow we have a lot. Well in general, after every practice and before every football game and competition the band always gathers in a huge circle. The drum major calls us to attention and yells, "What kind of band do we have?" We all reply with "Number one, sir!" and some people cheer.
We also do secret buddy gifts before every huge competition. In the sax section, one of the freshman boys, if not all of them, receives a thong (it won't be their last) as their gift along with other things.
Within sections, the clarinets get in a circle and pray, and then do a swaying thing. The sousaphones get in a circle, put their hands in, and yell some weird drinking song lines.
The saxes get in a circle and pray, and we all just make comments about the show. Then we put our hands in and yell "1,2,3. Sax on the phone!" or "Go big or go home!" It's usually both.
Some people hug, my boyfriend and I always shake hands, and he wears a necklace that I own. Last year one of my friends and I had this long handshake that we would do before each show.
The brass always click their mouthpieces together, as well.
