Ra wandered down the corridor carrying the last of his boxes. All of the others and his furniture had been moved by the janitors earlier in the day.
Smiling he wondered if he had a room mate...who they would be. Hopefully the room would be a suite like Chii's.
Propping the box on his knee he opened the first door. He stepped into what seemed to be a hallway. On his right was a door declaring 'bathroom' next to it, 'Toilet.' On his left was an open plan basic kitchenette. Nodding in approval he moved on to the main door and opened it with his elbow. He was shocked when he almost walked into what appeared to be a large wooden screen.
"What the..." He muttered to himself before looking up. To his extreme surprise he saw Scarlett, in the middle of unpacking.
"Uh...sorry Scarlett, I think I must have got the wrong room." He smiled putting the box on the floor and reaching into his pocket.

"Ra, what are you doing here? Is your new assignment on this floor?"Scarlett turned around, quite startled to see Rashne standing there with a box of this things in hand.
Hanging the clothes she held, Scarlett walked over to her bed. Scarlett pulled out the room transfer letter that she received from beneath the fresh linens. Her things were brought to this room, and nothing was missing.
"My assignment says 'Dorm Room 10,'" Scarlett said, handing the letter to Rashne. "My stuff's all here, so I am guessing I'm in the right place. It says I have a room mate assigned, but the assignments office wouldn't give me a name at all. What about you?"

Being the king of organisation Ra hadn't thought to check who his room mate would be.
Curiously he checked his assignment paper.
"Me too...room ten." He raised his eyebrows and looked to the right of the screen. All of his belongings were there. Bed, boxes, carpet. "Whoa, there's got to be a mistake here. That's my stuff...but we can't be sharing a room. Can we?"

"Are you serious?!" Scarlett said, looking over on the other side of the divider at Ra's possessions, at the matching room assignment papers, and at Ra again. "I--I--don't know..."
A fair bit of shock swept over Scarlett. She couldn't believe it! Out of all the people in the entire school to be roomed with, Scarlett was assigned to a room with a seventeen-year-old, upperclassmate. A 17-year-old, MALE upperclassmate. Scarlett's head felt light. She needed to sit down.
"I need a cup of tea," Scarlett said wearily, and looking flushed. "Want one?"

Ra gave a nervous laugh. "I wouldn't joke about something like this." He said stepping back into the hallway...he was sure he had seen a phone out there.
"Yeah, I'd love a cup of tea." He called back. Picking up the white plastic reciever he dialed the accomodation help number. He couldn't be sharing a room with a girl, it just wasn't right. Where he came from he was sure it was even likely to be against the law.

He returned a couple of moments later shaking and looking on the pale side.
"I definitly need that tea now." He said. "Looks like there's no mistake...we're roomies."

"Okay, I already unpacked the kettle and mugs," Scarlett said walking over the box next to her coffee table. "If you start up the kettle, I'll set the table."
This was weirder than Scarlett imagined. Her roommate was perfectly normal, and a completely wonderful... guy. Her parents would drag her back to Spain by her toes if they found out her room mate was a boy. Opening the case, she took out her teas. Going into the kitchen, she rinsed a hand towel to wipe down the coffee table.
"This should be okay, right?" Scarlett said slowly. "I mean, we have the divider... there... and keep relatively similar schedules, too."
Scarlett didn't want to sound apprehensive, but she was in a state of shock. She was completely relieved her room mate was someone she knew and was comfortable with. She just wasn't sure if she was comfortable living with Rashne.

Ra forced a smile.
"To be honest Scarlett, i'm really not amused by this situation. It's not you it's just I'm not the best room mate, male or not. Did they not even bother to read my records. Well, maybe they did and decided that I was too much of a suicide case." He swore to himself in Farsi and kicked the box in frustration. "What's more this is completely against my religion...not that I believe in any of it, but they don't know that."
Muttering to himself again he sat on the floor and crossed his legs. "I mentioned it of course. They said NO special circumstances. We're stuck."

"Oh..." Scarlett said softly, trying not to sound extremely hurt. Rashne had completely ignored what she said, but with good reason. He was obviously far more uncomfortable with the situation than she had expected. Listening to him talk, Scarlett filled up the kettle and plugged it in. The last thing she wanted to do was to pick a fight with Rashne unnecesssarily. She wasn't afraid of what he would say or do, Scarlett wanted to avoid adding insult to injury.
Taking the mugs out of the cabinet, she ran some fresh water over them and dried them quickly. Returning to the room, Scarlett set them on the table and resumed unpacking without speaking. Words failed her as she tried to figure out something comforting to say to Ra. Everything sounded too patronizing and vapid, so Scarlett remained quiet. The kettle timer chimed, signalling that the water was ready.
"Which tea would you like?" Scarlett said, unplugging the kettle and taking to the coffee table.

"I don't mind." He said sighing. "Sorry." He said rather sharply noticing the hesitation in her voice. "I suppose I'm going to have to keep my temper if we are going to be room mates." He smiled, though still intensley unhappy. Now he was going to have to keep up with the sleeping pills. He couldn't wake up screaming in the early hours of the morning now. May be that was their plan. 'Now you're being silly.' He told himself.
"Hey, Scarlett. No snoring right!" He laughed, trying to calm the situation a bit.

"If you need to sort your temper out, we can always have tea or go for a run," Scarlett said trying to calm herself down. "Ladies don't snore, Mr. Kusani!"
Scarlett laughed, genuinely. She felt relieved that Ra wasn't angry at her. It was the situation that they were thrust into. She wondered why she wasn't more upset by the situation as a whole. After what happened at her last school, the last thing she should want is to be shacked up permanently with a guy. She felt nothing. No concern for herself. No worrying about what a 17-year-old boy thinks about. Nothing. She felt nothing, but worry for the position she'd put Ra in.
"I'm in the need for comfort tea," Scarlett said, taking out a box of Tetley's that she picked up at the market. "With lots of milk and sugar."

((She found Tetley's in Japan o_O. *raises hand* "Miss! What do 17 year old boys think about?" *snorts* OH this is going to be a blast. XD))
Ra smiled genuinely. "Comfort tea sounds good." He said looking around the room. It was a nice space, and looked slightly better kept than the temporary accomodation.
"So I suppose we should talk ground rules." He shrugged. Rooming with guys there had not been much question of rules. Especially not with Saj and James, his last two room mates. "Quirks, habbits. stuff like that. Perfect conversation over a cup of comfort tea!"

Scarlett took a pair of teabags from the box and placed them in the mugs. Pouring the hot water over them, she let them steep as she fetched the milk and sugar from the kitchen. The room was a little more spacious, but felt warmer because she wasn't alone it in.
"Ground rules? Okay, fair enough," Scarlett said returning with the condiments. "Can I get the final decisions in writing, sir."
Reaching for the basket atop her wardrobe, Scarlett took down her floor cushoions. She had just purchased new covers for them, so they looked brand new. Fluffing one up, she tossed it playfully at Ra. What better way to start off their new challenge together, than with comfort tea and a pillow fight?

"In writing...sure." He smiled catching the pillow and placing it on the floor next to him. "So you can quote it at me when I break the rules."
He sat on the floor cushion and hugged his knees. "But seriously, I think this is going to take a lot of getting used to It would be easier if we know when to stay out of each other's way and what not to do. I'm pretty easy going just sometimes I like to be left alone...also I'll have to explain the side effects of my medication, but I can do that later...any thing you would rather I did/didn't do?" He asked.
He wanted to make sure that she felt comfortable. It had just dawned on him that she would be slightly more nervous of him than he was of her.

"Well, I am sure I don't need to warn you about staying out of my private things, especially my underware," Scarlett said, trying to break the ice a bit. She wanted to explain, everything to him but she didn't want to drop it on him suddenly.
"Would you be terribly offended if I hung a curtain to divide the kitchen and bath from this room, as well as one from the divider-- to make a door?" Scarlett said, more seriously. "I have... privacy issues... I will tell you about them, but it might take a little while..."
Scarlett dumped milk and sugar into her tea, trying to remain focused. She wished she could find a ease into the core of her problem, but it was looking like she might have to take the short-version/long-version approach."

Ra nodded. "Personal posetions go without saying. Same for me. And the curtain thing, whatever you want!" He paused, privacy issues...well at least they had something in common. "You don't need to tell me anything you don't want to. Your space is your space and mine is mine. Uh, I'm pretty messy, but I'll keep it to my side."
Was there anything he was missing other than medication issues.
"If I'm having a bad day and I say I want to be left alone, it's probably best that you do. Umm, not that we are the partying type but any large gatherings of people need permission...maybe over three people? Other than that, this should be fun...right?" He finished and hoped she didn't think he was being too bossy. He had been to many different schools and knew it was best to cover everything.
