She crossed her arms over her chest and nodded. "Yes, I do believe it would have. Though I think had I been there I would have found myself sharing the pain of the Underworld with you." There were few things that Athena disliked greatly, the Underworld was one of them. "How fairs it there, by the by?"

Hades closed his eyes in pain and rubbed a temple with a finger. "Let's... Let's not talk about business now."
How was it faring down there? It was the usual... Servants demanding pay raises, monsters demanding a few more souls per century to chew on... And just ten minutes before Athena had summoned him, a totally new issue had popped up. A couple of hero souls had decided that, in service to humankind, they would start a campaign to rescue the purgatory souls from their boring grass plain and bring them to the heroes' paradise. Why did heroes have to be such kind and generous good guys, anyway? Now heroes were sneaking - or fighting their way - into the prairie field of boredom, picking up a few souls at a time, and sneaking - or fighting - them back into paradise. Did the rules not clearly state that paradise was for heroes only?! So when he got back Hades was going to have to weed out the heroes from the in-betweens, reinforce the boundaries, put a few more monsters on patrol...
Oy.

"Then what should we talk about?" She asked him, unable to think of much to speak about, other than life, human beings, and Zeus. All of which would be classified as 'business' in her eyes.

One thing Hades would never understand about the female gender was their need to be in contact with someone longer than five minutes. Had it been Ares or another male god who had intercepted his letter and summoned him, they would have discussed Hades' intentions, much like he and Athena had, and then gone back home when they were settled. But with goddesses, they had to start a conversation. They thought it was bad manners to be brief and concise.
Mentally he rolled his eyes, but he remained polite. "Perhaps you can tell me how relations have been on the mountain? If there are any feuds or grudges between my comrades on Mount Olympus, I do not want to accidentally ruffle any feathers should I be given the chance to visit."

Athena chuckled, shaking her head and crossing her arms. "You're a better liar than you are an actor, Hades." She sighed, frowning slightly. "Perhaps I am the only one curious to get to know family." She turned to go, feeling as though their converstaion had ended.

Hades furrowed his brows. He actually had wanted to know the relations in Mt. Olympus between relatives, but for the exact opposite reason he had given. He needed to know all he could about his comrades and siblings to gain what leverage there was to gain. But, if Athena would not tell him, he could always spend the first days or hours of his visit being the compassionate listener - allowing the gods on Olympus to complain to him about the others living there.
He bowed to Athena's retreating back. "My thanks for your time, comrade. I am indebted to you."
And slowly he sank back into the dirt without another word. For now, it was time to resume his work... and wait.

Athena frowned slightly as he sank away, setting her hands to her hips. Something doesn't feel right. . . She thought to herself as she made her way back to Olympus.

Everything had went black and the next thing Myrtle knew she was waking up in a dark, depressing place that seemed both blazing hot and bone-chilling cold at the same time. Warily, she stood and brushed off herself. "Where am I?. . ." She wondered outloud, wrapping her arms around herself for comfort. Her eyes widened in sudden realization and stumbled back. N-No. . . I couldn't be. Why did I end up here? What have I done to deserve the Underworld? A sudden sense of panic struck through her as she turned about in search for a person.

{{lol it was the only thing I could think of to do to keep the plot rolling. I was toying with the idea that she ended up in the Underworld on accident or because she was murdered.}}

Charon was sitting cross-legged on his ferry, idly waiting for the next soul to come, on the shore of Unburied Souls. This was his usual post, because there were horns hanging on posts on the other shores that the souls would blow to summon him, but this particular shore had none.
A sudden noise distracted him and he looked up.
Oh, no, not another one.
The thing about the shore of unburied souls was that they - the souls, that is - were always panicked, always thinking they were bound to go to hell, always sure that they wouldn't be able to cross because they had no coin. Technically, Charon couldn't offer them a free ride, but he couldn't leave them milling about either. Hades had recently started a program that allowed uncoined souls to earn their way across, in order to prevent hauntings up on the earth.
Slowly stretching himself, Charon picked up his long oar - he insisted on calling it an oar, it was just easier to say - and steered his boat towards where Myrtle was panicking. Hopefully she'd see him and get the hint. He hated having to explain himself and watching real panic set in on their faces.

Myrtle turned at the sound of slushing water and nearly screamed before she realized who it was. The ferryman. . . I haven't got a coin. Her heart hammered in her chest as she neared the shore, feeling a hard lump form in her throat and her eyes fill with tears. She willed herself to gain some control, forcing the tears away and swallowing hard. "Excuse me, sir. . . might I ask you something?" No coin, no ride across the river. That's what everyone knew. But surely there was a way around it, for those who died before their time. . . or those who have yet to be discovered dead.

"Eh," Charon grunted, not looking up from his steering. It wasn't like he was going to kill her if she asked something.
Bored, he went through the list of FAQ in his head.
"Who are you?"

Charon, ferryman of the dead, at your humble service.
"Dead! How did I die?"
I don't know.
"Er, I wasn't actually asking you... Anyway, I don't have any coin. Can I still have a ride across?"
Can you go back and get a coin?
No...
Try anyway. No? All right, then foraging we go.
It was a long, boring routine he was well familiar with. He missed the good old days, when souls with no coin were stuck between two worlds. But Zeus had complained to Hades about the hauntings, and something had to be done.

"Charon, is it?" Having had nothing better to do in what little spare time she had, Myrtle had taken to studying the gods and daemons, this was how she recognized him, though she hoped she had gotten his name right. "I was murdered, and while I assume that interests you very little, I find myself stuck between a rock and a hard place. Beings that my murderers are empty-headed fools who obviously lack any sort of respect for anyone, I find myself without means to pay you my fare. Is there any other way I can pay? Or, is there a limit to how long one can wait on the shore in hopes someone will have pitty enough to bury my corpse with the required coins?" The thought of referring to herself as dead sent a chill down her spine, but she figured since she was speaking to a man who probably heard this same story a thousand times in a day, she'd be as brief andd as straight forward as possible.

Myrtle thought she was being brief and precise. Charon didn't agree. Oh, great, a talkative one. At least she knows the basics.
"There's no waiting limit,"
he muttered, pulling the boat up to the shore and stepping off. "You can sit there as long as you like. As for another way you can pay, no, there isn't. Coins the only thing I've got much use for.
But..."
Charon paused, angry that he had to follow through with this but fearful of what might happen otherwise. "If you fear that you cannot obtain a coin from the living world, then you can always forage for one."
