Bleah, this conversation is too off-topic. All I did was ask if people would rather be a powerful yokai which would someday die or a fairy which would be weak but immortal with none of immortality's disadvantages.

And I still choose fairy.

We don't have to be "forced" by nature to favor an evolution trait.
Yes, we do. That's the whole point of evolution.
No we don't neutral All evolution's guidelines is natural selection. It doesn't say anywhere about being forced to like a particular trait.
I think we're talking about different stuff here.

What I mean is, the biological species won't favour any particular heritable trait unless said trait gives its carriers a significant advantage in the struggle for life. In other words, we do not prefer an evolution trait unless the natural conditions of our environment (and by "nature" I mean the surroundings, other species, and competitors from the same species) gives us a significant benefit and thus pushes us to strive for it.

Keep in mind I'm not disagreeing with you 100%. Yes, there is going to be that time where a favorable trait is forced to keep the species alive.

But a trait taking over to evolve the species doesn't always have to be a significant advantage. It usually is, but we're talking about humans here and you just said that's usually taken care of since we just build things to help us out. However if a genetic mutation helps humans to become better in an aspect we don't forsee yet, why not favor it?

I disagree. The article I proposed is in connection to your topic and evolution debate is in relation to the article. There's still that link.

But a trait taking over to evolve the species doesn't always have to be a significant advantage.
Well, when we develop traits which give us no advantage whatsoever, it's usually because said trait is regulated by the same gene that regulates some other highly useful trait. Let's put a silly example: let's say someone develops a gene that allows us to fly and gives us all dark skin. In this case, the dark skin wasn't an advantage, yet it took over the whole species.

Time Crisis Z
However if a genetic mutation helps humans to become better in an aspect we don't forsee yet, why not favor it?
...because we probably won't favour something whose usefulness we don't foreseee yet? Anyways, my point is, now that our environment isn't pushing us as much as before, yea, new evolutionary traits will still appear, but we'll favour less of them, resulting in a slowdown in our evolutionary process. A slowdown that I fear might become an almost complete halt someday.

You've been here for long enough to know how derailed our conversation topics get. の_の

If I had to chose to be either a youkai or a fairy, I'd chose to be a youkai, since I don't really see myself being a fairy, and I think it would be more fun for me to be a youkai anyway XD

But now you're agreeing with me in this example. How can you say evolution due to regulation comes to a grinding halt if genetic mutations happen all the time? Again, if they're for the better or just "meh, let it fly", why not?

The people debating in the topic already answered your question. It's just now we're debating on WHY we chose our answer.

*sigh* Is there gonna be another war here? Except that it's not fairy wars, its the Fairy vs Youkai wars?

Btw, I chose none. I'd rather turn into a ghost as well, and live the playful life.

I see, then at this point if this were the forums I would have erased the first post and changed the topic to "This thread is dead. Ignore it.".

Huh... I can't imagine why a person would choose a long life free of any major disadvantages over power and a short life. Oh well.

Assuming you could find me, who's to say I would respawn in the same location again and again?
