Are you supposed to speak Esperanto with a certain accent?
PostPosted: Wed Jun 07, 2006 3:12 pm
Well, Esperanto Pronunciation is meant to be standard,
if you go to the websites on Esperanto it is explained...
We listed some on the first page I think.

But certain countries do have slight accents..

I can't roll my R, and Japanese have trouble with
the R/L sound.

But since we all try to get teh sounds teh same and
there is little slang, it is fairly uniform ( in my limited
experience).

I took a great course, complete with homework (yay!), to learn Esperanto. I currently am on lesson nine. Free Internet tutoring FTW!

The issue has been addressed on the Banners thread. Notably the Danish flag is also absent.

And as for the question a while back, the most common way to type letters in Esperanto with circumflexes and haceks when it is not possible or convenient to type the actual symbols is to put an x after them, i.e. cx, gx, jx, sx, ux.

I've always wondered if there's a difference between "ami" and "sxati".

Could one also say "Mi amas librojn," or would that be weird?

(P.S. Kiel oni tajpas esperantajn ekstraleterojn kiel sx, cx, ktp?)

I think "ami" is only for the sense in which you would love a person, and "sxati" is for when, for example, you love music. I think "sxati" can be used for people too, but yielding that meaning.

Esperanto has opened my eyes to something - namely, how goddamn spoiled English-speaking Internet users are. Right now, for instance, I'm trying to make my way through a site that's half in Dutch and half in Esperanto. It's hard crying

I see the E-o Flag is still not up.

And English speakers are spoiled on the net.

I hear Mac is better for E-o than Windows though.

How so? You mean easier to insert symbols? That all depends on the keymap. For example, Colemak (http://colemak.com) uses the AltGr key to let you type symbols easily. I usually just open KCharSelect for images, but I should really remap my keyboard some time.

I've just recently found out about Espranto, and I must admit it got me interested. I found out about said language whilst watching GATTACA, and the announcer in the building where Ethan Hawke works voiced over in Espranto. I asked my teacher what it was and she said it was a language made up to try and make it become the international language. I believe it's a mixture of other languages?
