Geez! Tarot had pulled out the hands on hips move, the foot tapping. What did it take to get this guy to back down. She had another move she could use, but hated having to resort to it. It was something Sev did on the rare occasions her tantrums reached maximum undignity. Not that ever went monster, no. The worst she could do was make her stripes go darker, but even then she wasn't sure how to do it.
Tarot sighed internally. Looked like she'd have to use that move. And so she made sure her stare was extra partenty and why-are-you-misbehaving-like-this, and raised an eyebrow. Just the one, and in that perfect arched way that said "Wow you're being such a big baby over something so insignificant". Tarot almost hated herself for it.

Austin was caught by surprise. That look made him uneasy. Something about it just threw him off, but he wasn't sure what it was. In him moment of weakness, Austin almost lost his facade. His pupils shrank, the whiteness returning to his eyes.
"S-stop looking at me like that!"

Hmmm, it looked like Tarot was finally hitting some nerves! Well the eyebrow trick always got a reaction of some sort, though a couple times it had been the opposite of the desired effect.
Tarot decided to emphasize the parent look, and raised the second eyebrow. The trick was to get it high enough to look raised, but not as high as the first eyebrown. Otherwise she just ended up looking surprised rather than skeptically stern.

Austin gritted his pointed teeth together. What was this person doing!? Why was it so unsettling!? His body shook with confusion and anger. If Tarot was going to use some weird trick, so could he!
Austin exposed his teeth again, starting to growl. He raised his pointed arms up and lurched forward in a stalking manner. The whites of his eyes started to disappear again. He wasn't going to lose that easily.

Tarot's face was almost perfectly still. Nothing from the nose up twitched, and her lips only barely seemed to move as she said, "You look like a zombie." And it was true, Austin seemed to be doing a very good impersonation of the living dead.

Austin stopped his lurch at Tarot's observation. He didn't necessarily let his facade down, but he seemed less aggressive and more curious. He had never heard the word before and wasn't sure if that was a compliment or an insult.
"A 'zom-bee'? What's a 'zom-bee'?"
He closed his mouth, sucking his teeth back inside his lips.

Tarot shrugged, having never actually seen a zombie herself before. Not in person, anyway. It was just at bookstores she liked pulling down stuff and looking at covers, and one had a picture of a zombie on the front and Sev told her it was a zombie anyway. Not that she was going to clue Austin in to the fact that she was less than a zombie expert.
"They're l'ke dead people tha' move 'round," she responded.

Austin felt obligated to check himself out for this "zom-bee". He moved around, but he certainly wasn't dead! Dead people are in the ground and Austin was not. He looked back over to Tarot, tilting his head.
"I dun't understand." Austin readjusted his head, staring at Tarot with a frown. "This game isn't fun anymore, can we stop?"

"Sure," Tarot said, deep blue eyes just as level and calm as they had been throughout the entire encouter. She raised and arm straight out, small hand dangling from a fragile-looking wrist, and pointed to the eel tank next to her. "I'ma go back to starin' at the green thing. You c'n go zombie someone. 'Kay?" This seemed like a good arrangement to her. There was still time for a staring contest rematch!

"Whaaaaaat?" Austin sounded disappointed. He wanted to quit the game so he could play another, not go away!
"B-but I wanted to play with you," he pouted. A frown stretched across his face, a few of his teeth poking out. He stomped his feet on the ground, crossing his arms and pulling his shoulders up. Tarot was going to play with him whether it liked it or not!

Tarot almost pouted. "But I don' play games," she said simply. It was quite the truth. Tarot's free time was spent staring at things, digging about in her little garden, or just wandering about looking for things of interest. She had no siblings, and there were no children in her neighborhood. It could almost be argued that Tarot was a stranger toddler than Austin.

Austin was shocked by the response. What kind of person didn't like to play games!? That was out of the question, games were fun and fun was good. Fun is an important part of the day!
"How can you not play games!? Games are good for you!" He tried not to get too ruffled; Momma always yelled at him when he got like that. He tended to break stuff too.

Tarot turned her attention back to the glass. Maybe if she kinda sorta ignored Austin, he would drop his presistance that she play a game and find someone else to bother. She did answer his question though, for it would have been rude to ignore it. Sev managed to get that much about manners pounded through her thick skull, at least.
"Cause I'm 'sploring the trees at home an' makin' a garden an' talkin' to rocks," she said quite firmly. That was all the real fun she needed in her life. A rock could have many interesting things to say, and had such calm and stable energies that they were a relief to be around after all the erratic bursts she got from people.
