Abdiel smiled; she was trusting him.
"It's okay," he said, "I don't talk about my family much either. And...I mean," he paused and then added, "I'm not gonna tell anyone or anything."

Like he had anyone to tell. "I'm off on my own most of the time anyway, don't really stay in one place that much. I like it that way. Free and independent!" He smiled wide at this.

"'Course my 'home' is near another forest, close to the river. There's a village not too far away either. I go home from time to time, and that's where my siblings usually are. They took to sticking together, but I've always been the independent one."

He stopped then, as it felt like he was beginning to ramble.

It was interesting learning about someone else and Keira had always only worried about herself. She never found the need to ask others these types of personal questions. These were very special circumstances and Keira was pretty sure that this would never happen again. "Not just stuff about my family, I don't tell anybody anything." Now that she thought about it, Keira didn't have any close friends and she was always on her own.

"Independent is good." That's what Keira really believed. She thought relying on others was weak and if you couldn't take care of yourself, you should perish. It was the law of nature and kept everything in balance. She wasn't sure what else to say to him; these types of conversations were completely new to her.

"Yeah, it is," he agreed, smiling. "It's freeing. I like being in charge of myself." Maybe he just liked being in charge. He didn't know; he'd never considered being in charge of anyone else before.

However, Abdiel wasn't the type to see dependence as weak; at least not in others. It was just different. He had his way, and others had theirs. Some horses needed to be dependent so they could depend on the ones that liked to protect. It was like a puzzle.

Though, he didn't quite view being independent and putting up walls as the same thing. He could tell that Keira had put up a lot of walls in her life; at least that's how it seemed to Abdiel. He didn't mind sharing stuff about himself, because he'd never been hurt by anyone. He never really thought he could be hurt by anyone. But, looking at Keira, he could see that she had been hurt by someone. Putting up walls only made sense, it was defensive, and he didn't blame her one bit; especially being the type that could take care of herself.

But he wondered if there were times, independent or not, when another did need someone else. Because Abdiel was here now, and there was something keeping him here, some sort of need either from himself or from her. Abdiel didn't know. He did know that being here with Keira made him think a lot though. He shook his head, trying to rid it of the annoyingly confusing thought process going on in his head. 'It all comes down to balance...' he thought to himself.

"Anyway, sharing can be good though, I think." So far, he'd only felt good about what he'd shared with her. He felt like someone knew him just a little bit better, whether or not he'd ever see her again.

Nodding, Keira knew that she could only depend on herself and that was the best thing she could do for herself. From the moment she was born, she only could rely on herself and nobody else. Even her father had his own agenda and he would help her as long as it didn't interrupt his own plans.

"As we have established, sharing is new to me." He should feel pretty lucky... she didn't just share things with anybody. "If nobody knows anything about you, it makes it more difficult for them to figure out your weaknesses." She also knew that not everybody want to hurt her but she was very hesitant to let anybody in her bubble.

She spoke very calmly as she spoke, "Do you think that... by sitting here with me and talking to me that I will realize that you're not going to hurt me. And then I'll just open up and tell you my life story?"

"No," he answered her. "Not unless it was something you wanted to do. I'm content sitting here listening to you, I'm doing it because I want to. I don't have any hidden motives. But I think you've already figured out that I'm not going to hurt you, or else you wouldn't have told me any of the things you've already told me."

He looked over at her, wondering if she liked the new experience of sharing, wondering if she liked talking to him, or if he was still a burden to her. He asked all his questions in one, saying, "Do you still want me to leave?"

She felt herself withdrawing quickly and she couldn't handle opening up herself all at once. Keira needed space to think and breath which she could do neither of when he was around. Listening to his response, she had no idea what to say in return. There was a part of her that really did want him to be there but she wasn't ready yet. She almost felt bad for having asked him the question because he really didn't mean any harm. It would take time for her to grasp the fact that he just wanted to be there for her. "Yes, I would like it if you left."

Some part of Abdiel had hoped that she would say no, that she didn't want him to leave, but still another part was hoping for her to say yes. He knew that nothing more was to be gained by staying here, and he didn't wish to be a burden on her. He wanted her to get her rest so she could get better. He wasn't worried about her anymore, because he could sense how strong she was; there was no doubt her strong will would keep her alive and that she would recover in no time.

The only thing to do now was to carry on with his exploring, or to perhaps go home, since he had been talking about it.

Silently, he got up to leave. He wasn't offended by her asking him to leave. He had stayed his welcome, what little there had been in the beginning, and now it was time to go. He did however wonder if he'd ever run into her again. Perhaps he'd see her if he ever explored this forest again. He doubted it though, since she was new to this part just as he was.

He turned to her before he left, and with a smile he said, "It was good to have met you. Maybe we'll see each other again." And with that, he turned and left. After awhile, he turned around a thick cluster of tree trunks and disappeared from sight.
