Magdalene purred softly and she curled up around the little male as far as she coudl reach. Then, in a soft voice that barely rose above a whisper, she sang a lullaby that her father had taught her before he'd gone away. She couldn't remember the words... but she remembered the melody and the notes perfectly. She'd worry about words later.

Rhi didn't stir again. He may have been comforted, but he was still a very sick little kitten. If Magdalene tried to wake him, she would have no sucess. His little heart was beating at a fraction of the pace it was supposed to, and the same went for his breathing. His eyes were closed, and his tiny body completely limp - like a ragdoll. Apparently... Rhiket had fallen into a comatose state...

Magdalene shook herself out of the doze she'd fallen into and stood carefully, yawning. As she stretched out, she chunnered to herself, "Phwaw! Shouldna gone t'sleep...gotta watch Rhiket for Nari.. Stupid kitten, falling asleep when you've got a 'portant job..."

Turnign to face the little male, she sat and cocked her head, listenignt o him breathe. It didn't sound quite right somehow. Gingerly, she extended a paw and gave his shoulder a nudge. Nothing.

Gnawing on her lower lip, Magdalene considered her options. Nari was tired, but had said to fetch her if anythign was needed. And Magdalene herself didn't want to try anything for forecful than that nudge to try and waken Rhiket. Without understanding why, Magdalene realized that she was frightened by how still and silent Rhiket was. Pulling herself from the basket, she raced for Hanu and Nari's room, her small voice ringing out shrilly.

"Nari! Please come quick! I think somethin's wrong!"

But Nari didn't respond either. She was either fast asleep... or perhaps, though it was unlikely, in the same state as Rhiket.

Whatever it was...

Magdalene was on her own.

((Teh writer is ebil! XD))

Magdalene tried nudging Nari's hand and even risked a tiny nibble, thinking that her small, sharp teeth might have some sort of effect. Again, there was nothing.

Resisting the urge to simply sit and cry, Magdalene forced herself to stop and think about what she knew that might help. Master Hanu had gone to another house. She could go try to get him... But she didn't know where this other house was. She was too little to carry Rhiket to someone who could help right away. And if something was wrong with Nari, it would be wrong to leave her lying helpless in her bed.

So, Magdalene thought quickly, I can't leave the house. But maybe I can sit just outside the front door and yell until someone comes to help. Havign chosen a course of action, the tiny Uluen jumped to her feet and raced for the front door, yowling and screaming for all she was worth.

((And so are you! blaugh I wanted you two to interact on your own, but now I HAVE to bring somebody else on over... blaugh ))

Kanesakht and Sekhmet had already left for the Marketplace, and were too far off now to hear Magdalene's heartrending cry. But Akhetnnami was, for once in her life, late for work.

She paused, hearing the scream, and thought. If something was wrong... but it came from the direction of Hanu and Nari's house. They'd surely have it under control.

But when the screaming didn't stop, Akhetnnami put down her things and ran over, skirt swirling around her ankles and headdress jingling. Coming to the door and Magdalene, she crouched down. "What's the matter...?" she asked, breathlessly.

((Well, it is hard to interact with a comatose little brother.. *chuckles*))

Magdalene took a gulp and air and began babbling to the strange female, "Rhiket won' wake up an' his breathin' sounds funny and Nari won' wake up either and I promised Master Hanu I'd take care of Rhiket and I messed up and I don' know what I did wrong and won' you please check on Nari and Rhiket?"

The little female crouched in the doorway, sides heaving as she fought to get her breathign back to somethign resembling normal. With wide, imploring eyes, she silently begged this stranger to find a way to make everythign better.

Akhetnnami blinked, then quickly hurried past the small Uluen and into the house. Her first priority was to check on her sister-in-law. Passing into the main bedroom, she was quickly at Nariketh's side, feeling her forehead for temperature.

"Hmm..."

She turned, waiting for the smaller Dumyr to follow her. "Has she done anything strenuous lately? Like, say... any strong healings?"

Magdalene opened her mouth to answer, then quickly shut it again as she thought.

"I don' know if she has or not. Master Hanu only brought me this morning... But Rhiket is all bandaged up and Nari said to be careful with him 'cos he was hurt so bad. So she mighta done strong healin'."

She sat back, watching to tall female with tear bright eyes.

"Nari's gonna be okay, isn't she?"

"She'll be fine," Akhetnnami muttered, frowning and stalking past Magdalene once more. "And where's... Rhiket? Here?" She peeked her head into the guest room where Rhiket's basket lay, wings twitching anxiously. "Yes."

Another few steps and she was kneeling beside Rhiket, brow furrowed. She reached one delicate, white, three-fingered hand out to feel the boy's heartbeat. She was no healer, but Nari and Hanu had taught her a few things, in case of emergencies...

The little kitten's heartbeat was far, far too fast, and far too weak. his eyes opened for a few moments, then shut again, as his mouth opened to pant with each breath he took. He was in serious trouble.

"Hm. Having problems breathing, little boy?" Akhetnnami veritably purred. She had an idea.

A small, gentle, constant puff of air began trying to push its way into the boy's small lungs. He couldn't get air? She'd give it to him. She could probably, if she tried hard enough, keep his lungs working and breathing through sheer will. Still, that might hurt him. Keeping it gentle was the best course of action.

Magdalene followed the white female into Rhiket's room and sat watching her with wide eyes. She heard the murmur about troubled breathign and felt tears spring to her eyes. Curling herself into a tiny ball with the tip of her tail hiding her nose, Magdalene shivered and fought down an urge to cry. She'd messed up and somethgin was wrong with Rhiket.

"It isn't your fault," the woman commented, drily, without looking back for a second. "Hanu mentioned something about how fragile he was when he stopped by this morning. I was going to check on you around lunchtime, to make sure he was all right - Hanu didn't think he'd get through the day without problems, I think."

Rhi relaxed, and let the woman breathe for him - as breathing wasn't really an option as of now. His heart was slowly starting to even out. And the only thing he could think of at the moment was...

"Maggie..... sisser...."

He coughed again, and tried to get up, reaching a paw out to Magdalene.

"Maaaaggie.....sisser? Sisser there?"
