He was hungry before, but he had lost all appetite after talking to Clara. "I didn't realize...realize it would be so bad for you." Arphenion stared at Clara, his eyes filled with sorrow, "They all...they all have a man to go to at night...some of them are even mated. I-I thought...after onoe night...they wouldn't think about it ever again...continue to live happily with their mates..." elbows propped on the table he covered his face with his hands.

Clara's mouth dropped open. "You've spent the night with mated women?!" She shouted, unable to help herself. What kind of town had she brought herself to? The two females outside stared at the window, Clara's voice clear as day through it. She didn't see, but their faces turned red and they scurried off to tell the woes of their main man to the others.
"They've pledged to be with a single male as a mate for their lives. Why would they want someone else if they weren't looking for someone else? Most likely, they're not happy. They'll keep hoping you'll save them from whatever they got into, but you're not going to deliver, are you." She put a hand to her face at the male's stupidity. Bedding down a mated woman...
How could she be sitting here with him? Disgusted, her beliefs on the male gender dropping about ten notches, she grabbed her plate and took it to the check out counter, asking for a take-out container. Waiting for that, she returned to the table and collected her bags. Seeing how sad his face was, she scowled and put her hands on the table, leaning toward him. "Is this seriously the first time you've heard this? The first time you've noticed? You might forget all the faces you've been to bed with, but for them, yours might be the only face. Forgetting can be harder than it seems." Straightening, she noticed a few more women outside, watching the spectacle. Great, now she looked like a fool. She wouldn't be able to come into town anymore without everyone staring at her. She groaned softly as she turned from the male, heading to the counter to collect her food.

Well, they never told him that they were mated. He only found out when he actually saw them in public, actually happy with their men. But what kind of an excuse was that? She'd wouldn't take that as an excuse. Heck, she wouldn't accept anything he said.
"Do you...do you think its bad that I always give a woman what she wants?" he asked, his hand on his chin, "Without thinking about the consequences?"
Arphenion stood up slowly, feeling the stares of the fellow patrons as he followed Clara to the counter. "What should I do?"

Clara sighed softly. Why did he care what she thought? Shouldn't he be running off to return to his fantasy? Still, she couldn't resist the attempt. "The first part isn't that much of a problem, it's that second part." She shook her head, thanking the taur behind the counter and sticking her carry-out into a bag. "Everything someone does has a consequence, whether good or bad. They must always be taken into consideration. A good consequence for you, is a bad one for that woman's mate should he find out. Actually, if he found out, it'd probably be bad for all three of you."
She looked up in surprise. He was actually asking for advice from her? "Well what the blazes are you asking me for?" Huffing irritably, she leads him out the door. "The only thing to do is to stop doing what you're doing, but I don't see that happening any time soon. By the numbers of women fluttering for you, it looks like you've been at it for a while, and habits like that don't break easily." She'd been trying to break the habit of a friend of hers for a while now. Geez, had she been with this chump? What a nasty thought.
Glancing over, the gaggle of women seemed a mix between fearful for their boy and anger for her. She groaned again, pointing a finger at Arphenion. "At the very least, ask a woman about herself before pulling her to the shadows."

Arphenion sighed as he followed after her like a small puppy-dog. "Well, who else can I ask? No one in this town is capable (or willing) of giving advice to me." He ignored the gaggle of women, having eyes only for Clara at the moment, "And besides...you seem more capable than all the females in this town put together."

"I guess I don't please you hm?" he said rather dully, his arms crossed as his tail was dragging behind him. "Would you ever forgive someone like me?" the answer was definitely no.

Never had he realized that his lifestyle would be so...horrible.

Reluctantly, a small bubble of pleasure popped in Clara's chest. Damn right she was more capable. More competent was more like it. That's why she wasn't all over this moron like the others obviously wished to be.
"P- please me?" Her eyes scrunched in confusion. Was he really still trying to get along with her? Perhaps he was only pretending to be sorry, trying to get on her good side? That'd be just like a male! "In what way is it you think could possibly please me about you anymore. ...." She took a step closer to him, looming slightly, unable to resist the next question. "Why do you want forgiveness from me? Aren't you going to just run on to the next piece of meat and forget about me by morning?" That last part was harsh, but his persistence was both intriguing and annoying.

"Well...I guess I shouldn't be around these females..." he continued to walk along lethargically, clearly and truly disappointed with himself. "You're probably the only one that's truly been honest with me." he admitted, "Even though you were probably a little too harsh, I respect that you've been forward with me. So..." Arphenion pushed his hair back, chuckling despite the bad mood he was in. "Do you think that I would be willing to do anything like that now after that scolding you gave me?" he looked at Clara, expecting an answer.

"It's not just the females." She grumbled softly. "You're the one agreeing to it all." As they walked, the gaggle followed behind but were slowly falling back. They must have felt better since the shouting had ceased.
At least he seemed to know how to take a scolding when he deserved it. Actually... he did seem a lot different from when he had first walked up to her. He was probably in shock. Glancing back at Arphenion, she looked off to the side and shook her head, sleak hair tumbling around her cheeks. "Usually, it takes more than one woman telling a man off to change his ways... Just me compared to that bunch still watching over you, who would do anything to get you back in bed?" She looked back at him. The fire in her eyes had finally dimmed back to the cool gaze she usually wore. "Only time will tell if you actually take note of anything that happened tonight."

"I only gave them what they wanted..." he frowned. He got himself into a very complicated mess. "Perhaps...perhaps I should move to a new place." Arphenion said aloud, more to himself than Clara. "Start anew and put this behind me." the cattaur heaved another long sigh, his brown eyes looking at Clara softly, "I can see why you were so cold and opposed to me. I was quite an idiot wasn't I?"

Well, it was the first time in his life that someone had been so upfront with him. Why wouldn't he change so dramatically? Even as he was growing up, his parents never scolded him once. Though, probably he was the oldest and he never really did anything to disappoint his parents. Until after he left the house of course. That's when this all started.

Clara pursed her lips slightly, tugging her gloves again. "Giving someone everything they want only spoils them." She looked over at him. Start new in another place? .....Would that be enough? Or would it make it worse? Fresh prey. No reminders of what he'd done. Complicated indeed.
At his question, she could only stare for a moment. Did he just admit what it sounded like he admited? Even if he was just trying to get on her good side, her eyes lightened up and a laugh slipped from her mouth, the corners curling in disbelief. "You have no idea how refreshing it is to hear you say that." She chuckled, pressing a hand to her lips. "I- I'm sorry. I shouldn't be laughing at that. You are an idiot, but hopefully one who has learned something."

"I suppose..." Arphenion replied. He hadn't thought that he was perhaps spoiling the females.
He waved his hand dismissively at her laughter. "Go ahead. I probably deserve it." he couldn't help but smile as well, "Though...I guess I finally got a smile out of you." as he looked away, his expression still pensive. Arphenion honestly did not mind that Clara was laughing at him. He probably deserved it, and besides, laughter was a way of relieving stress, and she had received a lot of that just by being around him and the previous women that he had spent some time with.

"Oh...I never got to know your name..." he tilted his head slightly, "Surely you'd give me that much?"
PostPosted: Wed Jul 28, 2010 7:04 pm

Realizing that she had indeed smile because of him, Clara felt her cheeks warm slightly. "Deserve it or not, laughing at such a thing when it's true is rude." Thinking over her own sentence, the corners of her mouth twitched threateningly again. What had he done to deserve a smile?
Her name? W-wouldn't that be a bit much? What would he do with her name? Her eyes shifted down the path. What would any of those women do if they heard too? She shook her head. This was no man to get close to, even in friendship. "I have given you plenty to think about and plan." She said quickly, resuming her walk down to the woods away from the market. "Surely your brain is too full by now to fit my name into there." Passing off her need to stay anonymous with a teasing joke, she flicked her tail and took a deep breath, beginning to let go of the evening.

"If laughing at my status is rude, then isn't telling me your name rude as well?" Arphenion said casually, his arms clasped behind his back, as he strolled along at a leisurely pace, clearly undisturbed by the females behind them. He saw that Clara was close to smiling again. Usually, he would've felt his heart soar, but he felt nothing this time. In fact, he felt quite empty. Perhaps some drawing tomorrow morning would help him?

Clara shrugged. "It's just sense. Why put a name to someone you'll never see again?" She glanced over her shoulder at the male. "Whether or not you're moving, I will be. I don't need to be embarrassed every time I go into town now. Either I'll get too much attention from the women of this town or none at all, and I'll never find good service here again." If the women were going to turn against her, that left the males for her to converse with, and that would not do at all.

Arphenion shrugged as well, "It'd be nice to know the name and face of someone who helped one turn into a...better person?" the last two words turned out as question, wondering if that was the right way to put what he had gone through in the past hour. "Maybe if I see you again, I could give you a little thank you gift."
"Well...I might have to move." he smiled at her, "Don't worry though; I won't be following you to your new place. Perhaps I will move back to the town I grew up in...see my parents again. And my little sisters." he gave a little sigh, realizing he hadn't seen his family in ages.
