Ssessriel had grown bored, and irritated, with waiting for the shiny folk to look for a warrior. He had also run out of food, and that made his temper even worse. So he had decided to wander down to the river. It wasn't hard, he could smell the moisture on the air. Ssessriel was sure that some of the shiny folk would have a problem with him wandering through the city, but he would welcome a confrontation as he travelled the trashed streets of the trainyards. Ssessriel grinned at the thought, if reptiles could grin, and allowed his long forked tongue to slip past his rows of needle-sharp teeth to flick the air, at the same time allowing lungfulls of his rancid breath to escape into the crowd around him.

Aladia watched the shiny folk working...it was rather hilarious to watch their stumbling attempts.A crooked smirk made its way onto Aladia's face...if owls could have such expressions. By the sounds of the wailing another death had occure. aladia felt a dark justification hoping that these arrogant creatures would learn before something much more dangerous decided to step in.Continuing to watch the procession aladia never noticed the stagnant scent in the air.

A fascinated and childlike smile spread across her face, Mint lifted her fingers to touch the object of her interest. "A pleasure to meet you, Dr. Reddin. Yes, Ma'am, I do have plenty of medicinal herbs. I am quite clumsy, so I have to keep plenty stocked. Although, I'm not quite sure I have an abundance of poppies. I could grow some rather quickly if you could give me an estimate on the number of plants you require." She said, sliding back a cabinet door and pulling a large, wooden case with a red cross painted on the front. The case, she gave to the woman as she opened the door to the roof. "Please." She said, stepping back and bowing slightly so they could enter the stairwell.

Silva was walking down the road, hopefully toward the shop, when he started to whistle a tune that was stuck in his head. Soon he was lost in his stroll once again enjoying the sun and shimmering water beside him.

With a spring in his step he continued to walk, but without a destination now. He was simply enjoying his time out. Spotting a strange flower shop on his walk he decided to check it out some. Who knows maybe it could help him with his work.

He walked up to the store, noticing the plants set outside. Spying the cart his thoughts of this store helping him jumped up a notch. He opened the stores door and walked in, the door hitting his rump a little as it shut.

With a little maneuvering Mary twisted the base of the bell jar in the carriage before heaving the remains of Dr. Redden into her arms before advancing towards the stairwell. She looked up in the direction in which it lead before ultimately deciding it would do no harm and began climbing upwards.

"Sorry to make such a request of you ma'am." Dr. Redden continued to talk as his assistant carried him. "Our usual supplier has gone missing it seems. Not all that surprising here. He might have gotten fed up with doing business here which is most unfortunate for us. Now we have to process all of our own medicines until we can find another supplier." He all but rambled his tone of voice hinting towards more of his disappointment than acceptance of the situation.

There was a loud shriek of metal, what looked like a giant spider was climbing up onto the roof of a building, a large portion of it seeming to fold in half as it worked itself onto the roof. In total there were nine spider-like legs climbing up, folding around every slope to keep the weight distributed evenly enough that it didn't crush the building, while keeping the grip strong enough that it worked like glue. After it made it to the top of the first building, it flattened itself out, walking carefully along the rooftops toward it's destination.

Inside however, the driver had abandoned his post to go deep into the building which was walking along the buildings. It was far too big for the streets, but with at least eight "feet" on the ground, it was perfectly fine on auto-pilot. So, instead of driving, the driver and owner of the marvelous creation choose to stay inside with his many guests and customers.

The inside, was a party. People ran around, clapping, laughing, singing. All happy to be alive in this amazing city. Not a single man or woman, troll or gnome, mage or warrior, went without a drink in both hands, and a smile on their face. Grim himself was having the most fun. He danced around, flirting with the women, joking with the men, everyone having a good ol' time, completely unaware of all that went on outside.

Robert DunRoan

Dapper Genius

PostPosted: Fri Aug 13, 2010 5:19 pm

There are some things that are, sadly enough, a cliche.

The police officer eating sweetened pastries of some sort. The style of dog that spends it's time with the ones that fight fires. And, of course, the shadowy merchant sitting in a quiet corner of a shadowy bar, left conspiculously alone despite the crowds or lack thereof in the rest of the building.

These things are far too trite to be used by an author. Some elements are true, such as the taste in sweets. Others are lies, like inbred and half-blind tempremental beasts allowed to stay at a place of havok applied to true problems. And the last is more something of neccesity. Some things can't be sold at a corner stall, and one who trades in them surely cannot place himself into common view.

A cliche, but sadly true. And that alone was why Robert DunRoan was quietly relaxing and sipping at his drink, alone at a booth at his favorite bar. After all, if people want the rather... Rare things he can aquire, they know where to find him.

xxxxUp on the roof, the sun glistened on dewy petals. Mint kept her most peculiar flowers here, safe from the harmful hands of the curious public. "It's no trouble at all, Doctor. I'm more than happy to assist you as much as needed until you can find someone more suited to medicinal supplies." As they would pass the plants, some would move, as if they were watching them with their eyeless, flowery faces. Off in a well-lit corner, cacti started to dance festively. "May I ask why you are in need of so many herbs?" She asked, reaching the back of the roof where a flat of 12 or so plants rested in rich soil. They were poppies, still brilliant red in color, but their petals were translucent and shimmery like gossamer. Nestled in the center of the tiny black stamen on each plant, was a perfectly round pearl. "It seems I only have about a dozen plants, but I can have at least triple this by tomorrow afternoon. I can, also, ready a few flats of herbs helpful in making basic medicines."
xxxxAfter a few moments, the tiny sound of a bell ringing downstairs alerted Mint's delicate ears. Though she was glad her store was gaining popularity, she felt a little rude as she smiled apologetically to Dr. Reddin and his assistant. "I'm so sorry, can you excuse me for a moment?" A little embarrassed, Mint excused herself past Mary and the Doctor and went half way down the stairs before calling out to whoever was in the store. "I'm terribly sorry, I'm on the roof at the moment. I'll be just a few minutes." She politely returned to her waiting customers and began placing the flat on a tray to be carried down the stairs.

"Morphine." Mary answered for the doctor as she paused to stare at one of the moving flowers, she moved her finger slowly back and forth before it taking a somewhat childish pleasure in watching it follow her movements.

Dr Redden mimicked a sound much like that of clearing his throat if he had anything remotely like one to clear. "Morphine is derived from the opium poppies make. It is much easier to use than that troublesome ether. Ether tends to make my patients a touch sicker in the end than in the beginning."

Silva was astounded by the sheer variety of plants that lay before him. He could recognize only a few as his eyes moved from one plant to another. As he moved his way inside the store he heard a voice call out saying it would be with him soon. Deciding it was probably the store clerk he nodded to him self and went back to looking.

He was intrigued by all the plants and wondered if it was possible if any of them could be used to make a nice healing potion. Remedies and potions were a personal favorite of his.Though he was not against making small poisons and small scale spells. Actually one of the most favored of his small arsenal of weapons was a small gas pack full of poison powder.

He looked at the plants with wonder and the thought of a full time provider looked bright. He smiled with content at the thought of finally being able to expand his small shop, and the cure for his never-ending shortages of supplies.

Upon looking at a small flower a sudden thought came to him. He smiled real wide and laughed at himself. He reached toward a pocket and pulled out a small paper. The whole reason why he had come. He shook his head and looked at the paper. He hoped to see the clerk soon, he was eager to ask about being a supplier and about the certain herb he was looking for.

Mint giggled at Mary's playfulness with her plants. They enjoyed the attention. One smallish flower with glossy yellow petals leaned forward and tickled the tip of her finger with its stamen.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I think you misunderstood. I know morphine is easily made from opium poppies, that's one of the reason I keep an entire flat of them on hand." She balanced the tray of peculiar poppies against her hip and walked towards the door, selecting a few additional plants as she saw them. "I was just curious as to the reason so much morphine is needed. I don't know most of the people in this city, but I still worry for them." Mint stepped over a patch of pumpkin-sized tomatoes to stand next to Mary. "Oh! It looks like they've taken a liking to you. They don't normally play with strangers."

"Oh sorry for that." Dr. Redden apologized his floating brain twitching a little from side to side in the jar Mary held. "I am a doctor and at times I do perform some surgeries. We need the morphine to sedate patients but without it we'll have to rely on our old method."

"Me sneaking up behind them and knocking them out with a small mallet." Mary said anticipating the next question as to how their old method was done. She nearly dropped the jar when the flower moved forwards to touch her. Tightening her grip upon the good doctor she turned her hand to stroke the tip of her finger beneath its smooth petals. "I've gotten much better at it, you don't even feel a bump when you come to."

"You clumsy oaf you had better not drop my beautiful- ahem. You can go on and see to your other customers. We just need to leave you our name and address for our order right?"

Silva looked at the interior of the shop more closely. He wondered how one could import all these exotic plants from all across the world. Shaking his head, he laughed and looked over each plant with interest.

He hoped whoever had called out to him would come down soon. He was anxious to ask his questions and meet new people. To pass the time he started to talk to the plants, a pass time he picked up while among so many plants in his life. He knew that plants had minds, and tried to befriend as many as he could.

"My dear friends, how are you today? Seems that you are being well taken care off." He said with a small chuckle.

Mint tilted her head and raised an eyebrow, placing the poppies and herbs with plants that were spoken for. "Yes, I can take your name and address at the door." She said, bowing a bit.
People around here were always strange, but Dr. Reddin and his assistant were the most....Unique.
Down the stairs she went, not keeping an eye on the Cacti like she should have. One of the little buggers had jumped over the side of the building when no one was watching, and had wandered out across the street. The littlest cacti could be intensely troublesome.
"I can have them ready by tomorrow evening, at best. What time would it be convenient to drop them off?" Mint asked, jotting down notes on a small card she would later clip to the side of the planter.

Ezra's ears twitched as he heard to the thump of the cactus on the dock...and lucky for the cactus the water-swollen wood was soft, or it's precious flesh would've been bruised. As it was, the cactus just rolled over and shambled over to where the half-gob sat with it's little root feet. Ezra looked at it, the little prickly creature wiggling about, hopping and dancing, and it danced a little too vigorously and closely to the edge. It almost ended up going into the river, had not Ezra's quick reflexes and gloved hands did not snatch it up. The thick leather of the black gloves protected Ezra, as he turned the little prickly dancer back and forth in his hands "What a strange magical thing." Ezra mused with a wheeze from his throat.

The half-gob looked over to the storefront and quirked an eyebrow. Where else did such a thing come from. He nibbled more on his fish and bread meal, looking at the last of the alcoholic sailor's punch in it's clay mug. "Hey, little prickly thing. Here, drinks on me." And he set the cactus on the lip of the jug, and let it drink as all plants would. "Better get you back to your shop." He lifted the dancing cactus up, and trotted briskly to the shop itself, opening the door with one hand as he slipped inside, and yelled out, doing his best angry, authoritarian voice "Where is the Owner of this establishment! This is the City Guard!" If Ezra's wheezing bellow was not enough to make a man fear incarceration, not much would.
