User Image A'cuil wagged as well, though not as fully as she. He was already muzzle deep in the warm meat they had taken by the time she spoke, thanking the spirits for such a full and bountiful meal! It seemed like ages since he had tasted prey so heavy and good. Although, really, it had not been so many moons since he stood in a clearing of his fellows, taking his piece of a stag a certain bright one had killed... A'cuil snorted, and shook the thought away.

Alley's warning came right on cue, as the brute found his appetite suddenly soured by worry. The feeling left the blood bitter on his tongue. "Don't worry." The warrior told his friend, swallowing the last of his mouthful. "Like I said - just impudent youth. It is a shame to leave the kill, so we could stand them off here. Warn them back to the forests around us, and let them know that the Delta is taken." It had been a while since he had to warn off anyone. A'cuil looked over to the nonwolf, a cocked ear wondering what she thought of the plan.

Clio did not look back again. The order her teacher had given her was more than enough to drive her over the rocks. A final leap took her to the other side of the bank. At last she was on the Delta. The fae took a moment to peer back at the rest of her party before lifting her muzzle into the air. Using her honed senses she caught the tangled mixture of scents. The non-wolf, the snakeskin brute and... blood. Not wolf, but of game. "Blood." She barked in a calm tone, just loud enough to carry over the raging water to the bear-wolf. Blue-orange eyes settled for a few seconds on the large ones of Sjunheal - he would know the trail to follow - before she set off to find the kill.

The metallic smell of blood was so strong in the air she could nearly taste it. Tracking it was easy. Still, true to the huntress within, Clio stalked through the forest towards the source, staying low. It was not certain that A'cuil had made this kill; she would take no chances. Forwards she went, following what seemed to have been a hunting path that the A'cuil and the non-wolf had taken. A pang went through her as she could discern the clear smell of a female from the scent below her. Now is not the time. The thought rang clear. Her mind was not to be distracted by petty feelings of the heart.

Her concentration snapped when the voice of the brute whispered into her ears. Heart leaping, Clio tensed up and her feet faltered. Beneath her the forest snapped. Branches below broke and her bristled fur caught at the sprawling bushes, more than enough noise to be found. It had been too long, since she had heard his voice. She knew it was A'cuil though she could not grasp words. Mind urged her to bound through the forest but sense told her that was not wise. Clio had already given away her position, years of training failing her all at once. There was also the threat of the unpredictable non-wolf. Thus, Clio moved forward at a slow pace.

Standing beside the male she watched over him, as had become her habit. She could see the refreshed, content look in his eyes and it made her glad. Every day she spent with him she was all the more glad for the day she had come across him. She lowered her head and took a few licks of their prey, eager to eat, but soon distracted.

Soon they were close enough that she could hear their voices, a male and a female for sure, shouting over the water's raging roar. She tensed when the voices stopped and her fur began to bristle. She stepped closer to A'Cuil so they were standing shoulder to shoulder. "Ah, Worry? Never." she said with a grin. "While I don't Doubt that we could warn them back, the voices I hear and then scents I smell are not those of youth... well, there is a pup, but an Adult Male, and an Adult female..."

A snap was heard and her head turned instantly. "Well, now would be a good time to let them know that, as we are no longer Alone..." tho, she was certain he knew that. She could hear the slow approach she looked at A'Cuil. "I don't think they're here on accident, A'Cuil. I think She very much meant to find you." Her eyes lowered and she turned her head in the direction the female was slowly approaching from. "She can hear us, as close as she is now, and she had not turned back... I'm certain it's you she seeks." Alley told the Snakeskinned warrior, her umber eyes focused on the greenery around them. "And two more will soon draw near."

User ImageLoki cast a look across the river to where the brown and white fae had disappeared then back up at the large bear-wolven male. She gazed at his overly-large fangs and surpressed a slight shudder. No, she didn't fear him but teeth brought back a memory...

Darkness, the night was cold and dark. Standing before two wolves was a large creature. A flash of teeth, growling and whimpering....Lots of blood...She was next bef-...

She snapped her eyes open shaking her fur as she gazed up at him. "I know. If you'll have me, carry me, Mr. Bear-Claw. "

User Image The bearwolf frowned. He noticed the distinctive shake of a shiver under fur, and decided to give the lass a little bit of time. If she wanted a chance to reconsider his offer, Sjun would not be the one to deny her, no matter how pressed for time they might be.

Clio was over already, after all; she was a capable fae.

Even with that in mind, it was entirely too soon - for his liking - when Loki gave her fur a more natural shaking, and looked up at him with the words of her assent. Sjunheal stared at the pup for a long moment. But he had always been one to let a wolf make its own decisions, and so his stout muzzle was alongside her body in the space of a breath. He did breathe, gently: preparing himself for the ones he'd have to hold while he bore her. A wet nose butted reassuringly into her side. "It'll be up an' over, gel, just you wait. Easy as anythin'."

And then Sjunheal crouched down on his front paws, opening his jaws to encircle the little fae's middle. His fangs were far too large to catch her scruff.

User Image Having been near the river for sparse short weeks, A'cuil could not discern voices from its roar. In fact, he much preferred to tune out the river altogether: just listening to it reminded him of his time in its depths. Sparse flickers of white crest and cold foam dotted these memories, mixed with the strike of the Spirit's debris and the sickening realization that he, in the grip of the waters, was utterly out of his own control. The warrior suppressed another shudder.

Now was not the time to let petty fears in. A'cuil frowned at Alley's words, and put his senses truly to work; the world snapped into a focus he had not needed for moons. The herd of deer were fleeing still, and by swiveling an ear the male could hear their hooves gently clatter. Insects were thrumming up and away from the forest in the west - right where Alley had pointed out the sounds of intruders before. And indeed, somewolf came clumsily upon them even now. The brute snorted his derision. "A party of three, huh. Did Icarus send you?" He stepped forward, the frown deepening on his muzzle. He inhaled deeply, the scents on the air taking time to work themselves into his mind. "Can't even leave a dead warrior alo-"

The scent made sense. Words and paws froze at once. Had he not already been standing stable, ready to defend, the wolf might have fallen over.

"Clio?"

Clio's ears tuned to the voices a short distance away. The non-wolf's voice rang clear, telling nothing but the truth behind her mission. She could see it now, the black canine-like creature. Through the thicket ahead she could make out a slim - but strong - frame, one well trained. A foreign object dangled from its neck, but Clio paid no attention to it. This had been A'cuil's company for many moons. A female who wasn't even a wolf. Clio grimaced lightly, but it dawned upon her that it was likely this creature that had kept A'cuil alive for so long. Stories of how weak he was after the match had circulated, leaving reason to doubt his survival.

A'cuil spoke and her entire body jumped. Mentioning the bright Alpha pained her, Don't you think I cared? Her mind, struck by the thought. Clio took short, measured steps forward, fighting the urge to bound over to A'cuil. The trees had begun to to thin, now. Snakeskin peeked through the branches and she could not help but grin.

Clio? That was it, she could not suppress the urge any longer. Blue-orange eyes jumped out of the foliage, almost as if she were pulled forward by some hidden force. The distance that remained between the Sure-Claws was closed in a few leaps. Disregarding the instinct to take caution with the non-wolf, the fae padded straight over to A'cuil. Without a word she faced him, odd-coloured eyes on his carmine.

It had been so long. Her fears were finally silenced, until now her mind had still doubted. A disease that could not be cured until she could see A'cuil in such promixity. A weight lifted from her she felt a sense of complete relief. So, Clio leaned forward slightly and licked his cheek. "I found you." She said at last, barely above a whisper.

The way he just said her name... the shock that has rendered him so still, the surprise in his face, disbelief, or is that something more I see? Alley's folded ears flicked back and she looked up, the female was close enough to see now. She is lovely... especially her eyes... Alley couldn't help but admit.

She was so focused on observing the reaction A'Cuil was giving that when the Female Bounded out in an instant and was there beside them in a blink of an eye Alley barked in shock and reared back, yelping when she found the deer directly behind her, leaving her to flip backwards over the deer to land sprawled on her back, looking a bit Dazed. "Ow." she stated grimly, rolling over and standing so she could shake herself off.

Sitting she watched the two. The female looked relieved and Alley knew, when she saw the female's face, concern for a Friend was not the only thing that fae had felt. She likes him... she thought with certainty. But who could blame her? What is there not to like? A pause in her thoughts and she tried not to think the question, but a moment more passed and she couldn't help it. Does he feel the same, I wonder...

When Clio leaned in to lick his cheek she lowered her eyes, feeling as though it was something more than a greeting, like it was something she wasn't supposed to see. She felt a pang of something uncomfortable in her chest. Something she'd never felt before. Who is she? And what is there between her and A'Cuil...? She wondered, observing the grass that poked up between her toes. What is this feeling? And why is it here now, all of a sudden?

User ImageThe sunset pup padded closer as he leaned his head down to grasp her. She was tense but ready. What they seeked lay across that river. When she felt the male's jaw lock around her middle she relaxed. Loki knew he wouldn't hurt her. He was gentle and held an air of wisdom around him. She could trust him with her life.

She opened her eyes as she waited for him to lift her and take her across the swirling depths to find the warrior. We must. For pack! The word seemed so foreign in her mind. Pack. She had lost hers long ago but she had found a new one. If she sticked with these wolves she would survive and become a great warrior,

User Image A ruddy growl of relief escaped the bearwolf as he leaned his head back, the relaxed Loki held gently between his fangs. The warmth of puppy belly tickled his maw's interior, and Sjunheal let out a short whuff; hopefully the wee one knew how to be still, and refrain from wiggling around too much.

Indeed they must find their missing warrior, and Sjun wasted no time in carting himself and his precious cargo to the rocks. His first step was a little wobbly, and the second was little better: he was testing the wet rock, letting his overlarge pads shape around the surfaces. He lifted his head, arching a massive neck as he attempted to make sure that Loki would bounce as little as possible. And then it was wobbly no more, the Sure-Claw trotting safe and sure over the roaring Spirit to the islet where other wolves lay.

User Image "Wasn't aware I was gone." The warrior's voice dipped, instantly, several octaves lower. The gruffness there only served to illuminate the fact that this conversation was already moving in directions that A'cuil was neither familiar nor comfortable with; and it truth, maybe a little afraid of. After all, the not-uncomfortable warmth welling in his chest was not something that he could bite or tear. The way the world stopped moving in the precise moment Clio's tongue touched his fur did not have a throat for him to snap.

And now he was lying, among other things. The male was well-aware of the fact that the other wolves had no way of knowing what had happened to him. He had assumed over the moons that they might have thought him... "Did you think me dead?" Searing red eyes stared unabashedly into the fae's. And of course, the pack had moved on... But that brought his nightmares to the fore, and he would not think of them now.

Speaking of nightmares! Without giving it a thought, A'cuil's head snapped to the dark nonwolf. His senses, still not firing on all pistons, had not fired anything close to the proper alarms as she barked, and fell. He was ashamed of himself for that. "Are you alright, Alley?" Even as he spoke, the brute's paws made for her. "Is anything injured?"

Clio's joyous expression faltered for a moment at the reply. Still unable to mask emotion, her eyes turned hurt. Heart sinking, the moment she had imagined much differently pained her. The brown-white fae had hoped A'cuil to be... happier. At least about having fellow Sure-Claws in his presence. After a silence on her part, maw opened as if to speak, but he placed a question before she could manage.

White ears swiveled downwards, pressing tightly against her skull as a sense of guilt crept over her, "Many feared as much. They searched for you to no avail... yet here you are." Clio's voice said quietly, the happiness that had overcome her replaced by something else; words whispered the last four words. You were gone so long... I-I... Mind voicing how she had doubted, blue-orange eyes darted away from the hard gaze of the red eyes. She could not face such a look. Clio chose the trees at the side over the ground, refusing to look as timid as she felt.

Suddenly the panicked sounds she had ignored until now ended on a loud note. The mild crash caused Clio to turn her attention, realizing the snakeskin brute also did the same. Worried for the creature, the fae stepped forward towards the strange non-wolf. She took a side-long glance at A'cuil, trying to grasp what kind of connection he had with the dog. His expression didn't hold much to offer, but it was the tone he held in his words that stopped Clio in her tracks.

It was calm, worried, caring to her ears. After a pause she cautiously padded forward, curious eyes on the black fae. "Are you well?" She asked meekly, more out of courtesy than true concern. Then she truly understood his words. Alley? She wondered, looking at the black creature. It must be her name.

Alley looked at A'Cuil as he approached and her tail thumped a few times against the ground. "I'm fine." She murmured, standing back up slowly, assessing herself. "That was merely a display of uncharacteristic clumsiness. She startled me a little, that's all." She stood up straight and suppressed a small whine.

Her right front foreleg ached, as though she had pulled a muscle or twisted it when she had landed. "I'm fine. No serious damage," she assured him, voice soft, expression sheepish and embarrassed. She stepped towards him and stumbled a little, the leg troubled her when she put too much pressure on it but she tried to cover the stumble by sitting down. She looked at Clio and nodded, "Well enough. As A'Cuil said, I'm Alley..." she introduced herself, out of courtesy. She shook out her black coat and gave A'Cuil a soft smile.

User ImageThe first thing to reach her young nose was emotions. Confusion, anger, and so many others she couldn't put a name to. Loki glanced around for the scents trying to see where they came from. She could clearly smell the swirled fae as well as the dog and a deep masculine scent that she didn't recognize. She glanced back up at Mr. Bear-claw and swayed her tail as they reached the far bank. She was glad they had made it with no trouble.

The trek across the rocks was dangerous yet they made it across. She watched the roaring waters beneath her body splash mercilessly against the slick rocks. At the halfway point where the current was strongest she had closed her eyes.

Now that she stood on solid ground she was relieved. Her tiny body shivered as she shook the dampness from her fur. She was ready to continue but not without Mr. Bear-claw. Never leave a pack mate behind.

User Image It was not in Sjun's nature to keep a young one waiting. A brisk shake, and the larger beast was ready to forge deeper onto to the island. Not that there was much to forge into: the land that Sjun observed - granted, on a much higher plane than others - was calm after the hectic closeness of the forest. Not nearly so much so as the mountains, of course; but one couldn't have everything.

He breathed deep: the story of the Delta unfolded all around him. By the scent of things, his pupil had been running this place for some time - and he, surprisingly, was not alone. The strange, female..."dog" scent was here as well. It was not overly offensive, but Sjun found himself a bit disturbed nonetheless. He hoped A'cuil was alright.

"A'right lass, let's get a move on. Run in front of me a pace - step quick, step silent, an' keep an eye out for Clio." He looked at Loki meaningfully before trotting forward, marking their direction on the path ahead just as he would for an adult fae. "And for the sake of fang, give a yip if ye sight 'er first."
