Such thoughts as Not this again... and You have to be kidding me... ran through the head of Kanda for that brief moment from the time when he realized Yuki's presence until his neck was broken. After that, he once again respawned in the Vita-Chamber and let out a deep sigh as his eye's opened. By now the former captain was accustomed to the sight of his own lifeless body that he merely stepped over the one laying at the entrance. Walking out into the open arena, Kanda trudged over to the staircase and made his way back up to the observation deck.

With a cross expression as he re-entered the tower, the phoenix-like shinigami, or so it seemed due to his regenration, made his way over to the bar for another round. In his trademark monotonous yet haunting voice, Kanda asked the bartender, "I need a drink stronger than moonshine, do you have something like that?" Afterward, the degraded captain set his head down on the counter and waited for a bottle of alcohol to magically appear in front of him. Sure enough, one did and he immediately guzzled the first shot down before pouring another. Shot by shot his expression once again changed to that of a drunkard until, finally, Kanda couldn't take it anymore and fell out of his seat. He lay there, on the floor, completely asleep with snot running out of his nose and an unintelligent smile on his face. He figured someone would wake him up, but to be more precise, he hoped someone would...

A soft shunpo occured as Krin Kenpai the captain of division seven neared the entrance of the tower where the combatants were gathering. He regretted that Shan and Demon had talked him into to it and was even more disappointed that when they got Kojima into it he practically drafted Krin. It was true he had been in the gotei the longest out of the remaining captains however that didn't mean he wanted to put his skills on the line, as far as he was concerned he was no more of a veteran than an unseated shinigami. As he approached the staircase to enter the tower he noticed traces of shattered glass which in all honesty made not so much afraid as it made him incredibly annoyed. While he was hoping to get some sleep before his match it turned out to be that he would have to deal with riled up barbarians that couldn't keep their zanpaktou sheathed. Making his way up the stairs the noises continued to grow to levels Krin did not think were humanly possible and as he opened the door to the observation room, the last barrier keeping the sound from reaching it's full levels, the noise hit him like a brick wall. With a loud yawn Krin scratched his head and bit down on his lip in order to deal with the unnecessary screaming and brutality being shown by the competitors. Being able to scout at least a couple of people he knew. Almost instantly after noticing Shan he went up in a rather sloppy looking walking posture almost as if he was in fact another one of the drunkards which after smelling the strong stench of alcohol wasn't a hard story to believe. Leaning against Shan so he could stand and take a minor snooze at the same time he mumbled in his comrades ear due to the loud noise in the room.

"Oi oi, if they keep it up like this I feel sorry for the opponent who faces me when I am cranky." Krin mumbled expecting Shan to get both the joke and horrifying truth of that statement. Krin didn't mess around when it came to sleep. When he has a good nights sleep he performs better, when somebody prevents this sleep and he is cranky, he performs on a level even higher then that out of sheer annoyance.

When something touched his shoulder, Shan just about went on the offensive. The last thing he needed was one of these strangers messing around with him; and he had no problem showing it with a few well-placed strikes. But when he turned to look who it was, the desire to strike instantly vanished. He was relieved that he had finally discovered a friendly face (or more like he had discovered Shan), and was even more relieved that it was Krin. Shan slid his hood back, revealing his effeminate features and long, brown, curly hair.

"I've been here a while, Krin. It doesn't get any better. It appears that these particular shinigami are only capable of drunkenness, vulgarity, and being as incredibly loud as humanly possible. Unless you knock yourself out, you aren't getting any sleep." Shan sighed, wishing to tie his hair back in a ponytail but deciding against it due to Krin's timely placement against his side.

"I just hope whatever's going on starts soon so I don't have to stand here any longer."

Hyjueken walked over to a group of captains he recently saw in the society. He thought in his mind that it would be better to at least introduce himself then to be sitting lonely against the wall. He walked up the group, both were really strong, as hyjueken scanned them with his eyes. He stepped up to both one with brown curly hair and the other who..well just looked strong. "Excuse me captains" hyjueken bowed. "My name is Hyjuekem Yambow, Ken for short." "I just recently joined squad 2, and was asked to help out in this matter." " it's nice to see some people here I know, well at least partially know." Hyjueken stood there hoping for a response.

Kojima, softly settling in the room, he stood next to Krin. "Axel Ike," Kojima said looking at his first opponent, he set his eyes on the Youth. The Youth's attitude immediately formed one word in Kojima's head, 'pompous' but, that meant nothing. Personality did not determine the opponent, the Youth is totally a mystery to him, his motives, desires, etc., but, Kojima wasn't gonna stop at just that, turning toward his fellow members. "Sorry," Kojima's attitude changed to a more innocent looking expression, "I was running a little late, but, I am here now. So, tell me who all are your opponents?"

Kojima had a lingering smile, he was happy to see everyone of his closest friends, members, all around supporting the Soul Society, hoping all would come back from there matches is all he could do, for this time, though fighting for BSS they all were still on there own in the battlefield. It was a time to see everyone clash, the Youths, the Elders, the Crazies, it all starts soon.

Yuki smiled as Fefnir offered the blade to her. It had been so long since she had spoken to the age old dragon, and for so long she had felt lonely. She was about to reach out and take the offered blade, and reunite with herself when the flaming gay drunk decided now was the best time to hit on her old friend. Sadly she didn't get the chance to beat the s**t out of him mercilessly for ruining this wonderful moment. Thankfully, she knew the secret of this room, as the sign outside the door informed her that while they where here... they where immortal.

She stood up, her face set into an angry glare as she strode across the room to where the tin can vita chamber stood. It took all of a few minutes before her target revived himself in the chamber and strode out, nursing a hangover and shouted at her face. In her cold rage, she viciously grabbed a fistful of hair and his chin, and with her BARE HANDS sharply twisted and broke the rude man's neck.

With a satisfied sigh as he fell to the floor, she turned around and walked back to where Fefnir sat and picked up her blade.

"I've missed you too."

She thought as the warm aura of the dragon engulfed her. All that answered was a contented rumbling growl as he settled back into the comfortably familiar set of her inner world. At the same time Yuki sat back down, shifting a little to get extra comfortable in the new warmth with a contented sigh.

"Now you really don't stand a chance."

"Was that...?" Fefnir had begun to ask before stopping himself with the ever-so-subtle "Ah, nevermind," and a shake of the head. The question was something along the lines of 'was that really necessary', but with Yuki, he knew he shouldn't bother asking. She'd more than earned the right to kill whoever she wanted, and he had robbed her of, or stole, if you will, the kill she could have delivered much more viciously, not that it mattered much with a Vita-Chamber so nearby to revive the combatants. He wondered for a moment whether or not it would do the same for those who were killed during the tournament, but quickly pushed the thought away as well. This was a TOURNAMENT, after all. If someone died, it was their own fault for doing poorly. Besides, knowing that you would be revived could cause him to be more careless with his actions since they would have no 'ultimate price' in the end, and mortality was never more of an issue than when his teacher was around.

He'd been to the brink of death so many times in simple training with her, much less the serious fights they'd exchanged through the years, that it was no stretch of the imagination to say he knew her fighting style like no other person in the spiritual world did. At least... none that had survived fights with her, which was a sparse number indeed. Fefnir was no slouch either, but compared to her absolutely bloodthirsty utilitarian fighting style, he was a ballet dancer slapping at a tank.

He shuddered involuntarily. Fefnir couldn't even imagine Yuki losing. Neither could he imagine himself falling to any opponent he faced, having been trained by her. Now that Arthion had been returned, it would be just like old times between them in that finals match, and even if he was defeated then, just being in combat with her again would make it all worthwhile.

In the meantime, however, he'd be paying close attention to her matches. She was the biggest threat, from an objective stance, so he would need to be familiar with any tricks she'd picked up over the years they'd been apart.

Without Arthion, Fefnir felt alone, colder, and worst of all, weaker. Another shudder almost overtook him, but he suppressed it. "Yuki..." he began, swallowing the frog in his throat, "Do you want to take Kaji as well? Your match is long before mine, so I can get him back when I need him, and he might be useful to you. I know you don't need him or anything like that, but..." The red man paused for a moment, then finished the statement, "But the offer is there, because you let me keep Arthion for you,"

But I want you to know what it was like for me to always have you there... he corrected himself in his head.

A British baritone voice interjected there with a sigh and the words "That thing, boy," and a slight bit of heat on his neck.

At first, he was confused, but in a flash of memory, he gave a pronounced "Oh!", a bit louder than he'd intended. Swiftly, the First Captain reached a hand wrapped in gold metal and red fabric up to his neck and pulled a small chain of silver from it, a pair of women's rings dangling from the sparkling metal. He removed one of them, a thin gold band inset with a round ruby, and offered it to her. "I held onto this for you. When you retired, they wanted to get rid of everything from your personal quarters, but I wouldn't let them until I had taken anything that may have been important to you, in case you ever came back. This was one of those things," He smiled brightly at first, but his face rapidly fell. "It was from Nagiko, wasn't it? You can still feel the cold coming from the metal. I... I knew you'd want it,"

Feeling as if he had been hit over the head with a brick, Kanda slowly opened his eyes to the sight of a new faces having shown up. With a fatigued moan, the drunken shinigami pulled himself from the floor using a bar stool nearby and regained his balance after a stumbling a bit. Taking in a deep breath, Kanda headed for the door as he figured it was time for his match at about this time. What the hell am I doing...I'm too old for this he thought to himself while stepping out of the Observation Room to make his way to the arena.

Shan looked at Hyjueken for a second, and was about to reply when the alarm for the rounds to begin rang off. He sighed, and slowly moved himself away from Krin, placing his hands on Krin's side so that he can angle the sleepy captain against the wall. "Krin, rounds are starting." He says slowly, making sure the man is in a stable position before letting go.

He turns to the new member speaking to him and raises an eyebrow. "Yes, good to see a friendly person in this crowd, but I can't say that I know you well enough to have more than a friendly hello." Shan picked himself up, and headed towards the door when he heard another rather friendly voice.

Listening to his first captain speak, he turned and bowed out of respect. "I didn't catch my opponent's name, Sotaichou, only the place of my match." He lifted himself out of the stance, and flipped his hood back over his delicate features.

"But I will do you honor and glory in the name of the Gotei 13, my captain, I assure you."

Shione Natsuki

PostPosted: Wed Aug 04, 2010 1:11 pm

She could see the other Shinigami in the observation room, making mental preparations and devising their own strategies. Some even made light conversation with one another as if they were here on vacation. Shione did none of that. She would much rather keep the conversation as minimal or non-existent as possible, and see what the opponent had to offer before applying her own strategy. To her, this tournament was the perfect place to show off her abilities. “Look at them all...” Shione Natsuki, the new member of Fefnir Kamashiro-Shihouin’s Squad One, uttered to herself. With an apparent smirk pulling the left corner of her upper lip wider, she rolled her eyes and stared at her Captain from across the room. She stood leaning against a support beam with hands behind her head, her tachi in plain sight across her hakama. She watched him talking to a female Shinigami in the room, noticing how familiar they seemed to be with one another. She could not be like that with anyone right now, nor did she want to be. The only person she would show any degree of respect to would be that of both her Captain, and her Lieutenant. Anyone else within her squad, or even in this room, would not be exempt from blatent ignorance, or if they were lucky, a less than acceptable verbal reply.

In the few moments Fefnir took reminiscing about past disembowelments Yuki unsheathed her blade, carefully looking it over for scratches, dings, or any sign of misuse. She had to smile when she saw the blade as she left it, if not better, running her finger lightly over the blade and feeling how well kept it was, sharp enough to cut with even the slightest pressure. 'He cares for you a great deal.'Yuki looked up from her reunion with her blade at Fefnir's offer, ignoring the dragon stating the obvious. For a moment she wondered why he would offer it to her, surly he didn't believe that in her retirement she had grown soft? That she needed such a crutch?! For five years she had roamed the human world, with hollows an arrancar hounding her every step. Did he think that it was an easy trip to earth with such a high spiritual pressure?! How dare he- 'want to be there on the battlefield with you?'

The rage that had been building slowly on her face suddenly vanished in a cloud of pure understanding. She had been angrily glaring at her own blade for the past few seconds and hadn't noticed until Arthion brought that thought to her. She looked up at Fefnir slowly, her eyes seeming to know his thoughts, she reached over and took her student's blade from his waist, sliding it into her belt, and placing her own blade just above his for easier reach.

"You never know what you'll need on the battlefield... Thank you"

She said, feeling a twitch in the back of her mind as the phoenix, she had known only briefly, sidled into her inner world next to the dragon. Arthion made some comment about how Kaji shouldn't get too comfortable, and she already knew the two must have fought constantly and she took pity on Fefnir, who must have endured this daily squabbling for the past few years. As the two spirits fought in the back of her mind she wondered if she had indeed gone soft in her old age, taking a useless thing into battle for the sake of her student. Hopefully it wouldn't just distract her with it's rude twittering, and it would prove of some use in combat.

Yuki stood up, now that the battles had been announced, her turn was almost up. She took note of another man leaving the room at the same time as her, that must be her opponent. She quickly checked the boards on his stats... An earth user... A smirk crossed her features. It had been quite some time since she fought someone like that... But then again, the last time she did, it was the most powerful one of his kind... This should be easy compared to that fight.

Just as she was turning to leave, she heard Fefnir's voice call out to her once more.

"I held onto this for you. When you retired, they wanted to get rid of everything from your personal quarters, but I wouldn't let them until I had taken anything that may have been important to you, in case you ever came back. This was one of those things, It was from Nagiko, wasn't it? You can still feel the cold coming from the metal. I... I knew you'd want it,"

She turned to face Fefnir, her breath catching in her throat as she heard the mention of her long lost love. Yuki couldn't even speak at the sight of the ring, it was Nagi's promise. She had forgotten about it after so long looking for him, she bit her tongue as she thought about how he hadn't kept his promise to stop a tear from flowing. Without a word she snatched the ring out of Fefinr's hand. She couldn't express with words how grateful she was, especially now... She couldn't even speak, her throat was tight with memories of her lost lover as she slipped on the ring. All she could do to express her gratitude was to nod, tight lipped, at her old student before walking out to meet her opponent on the field of battle.

Stewing in anger, Aine's tight handed grip on the recite booklet became growing indentations on it's thin cardboard covers with centralized crescents from her black nails gradually embedding in said covers. No one. Not one had listened to her in the least! Not even a passing glance. Nothing. Shoulders tightened in anger, the high school students first step was rigid, rapidly becoming fluid as her eyes darted between each of the waiting combatants.

Eeni,

Starting her choice, the shadow cast by her form in the florescent lighting of the tower started to shiver and break the edges of her form.

Meeni,

Passing another, fortunate, competitor the shadow lifted, reaching upwards starting with the emergence of a decidedly white hand trailed by shifting darkness. Hastily the continued anatomical structure of a man followed as Aine prowled forward, passing a near equally as short woman who was in the process of leaving the observation deck.

Miney,

Fully disrobed of her shadow, the figure behind her revealed his stark white face with a quick swipe of a hand to remove what emulated hair from before him before a pleased smile turned his aquiline features into something akin to psychotic. Without any pretense, the tall man and his inky form strode in front of her while his hands disappeared into the almost formless shadowed clothing swathing his body.

DEAD.

Both the angered girl and her shadowy companion stopped just just behind a silver haired youth, his heart studded pants eliciting just a little more of her burning anger then the others in her count had. That was it, the boy would die. An-ei, with nothing other then the slightest turn of his hips produced a blackened blade, not even removing his hands from his clothing, and essentially sent a quick handed shank at the boy below his ribs, wholly intent on dragging the blade's hooked tip upwards after it sunk into flesh to snag a kidney.

Leaving her preoccupied companion to finish his enjoyable dirty work, Aine set her sights on yet another occupant of the room. This one wouldn't die, but it didn't mean she wouldn't be any more friendly. Approaching the only person with glaringly red hair in the bunch, that hand that oh-so did not delicately hold the recite book held it aloft and resoundingly struck him in the back of the head with the metal spiraled binding. "Gonna pay for all a this, or not?!" Poor man, but Aine was going to get an answer and the money owed to her for this impromptu tournament suddenly finding it's way to her arena.

Crawling in your skin...

The sound of blood and screams filled the air around Iku. It was nothing new for him, such things were commonplace. The thing that interested him was that the latest stabbing seemed to have been performed by a cloaked man, who had seemingly materialized from a rather.. small, woman. Now that was interesting.. He had never killed a spirit before. Eh, it probably would be a boring fight anyways. No one could stand against the writhing horror of his sword for long, especially not if he fully released it, and let the rage consume his mind. An intriguing thought, but still.
"I was wondering when someone would stab that f*****t." He grunted, taking a long swig from his stolen bottle of sake. "First time I've seen a b***h wearing heart-studded pants last more than three seconds in a bar." He cocked his head to the side, surveying the carnage, and the man who caused it. "That's a pretty wicked looking blade there, you enjoy pulling out organs with that little hook?" For some reason, Iku didn't feel so hostile towards the shadow-man, perhaps it was because he recognized a familiar killing urge. Or perhaps it was because blood calmed him.

As a small hand pulled the blade from his obi, so too did the spirit of his lifelong companion leave, as if pulled gently away. To be cliche, parting was such sweet sorrow; Kaji was ever at odds with his owner, constantly eating at the confidence and psyche Fefnir struggled to build up through his accomplishments, but the sudden lack of his heated presence left an emptiness inside the red man like nothing he'd ever known before. There had been arguing between Arthion and his brother that the silence was more frightening than nearly anything he'd ever experienced before, almost to the point where he wanted to curl up right then and there. It was as if some piece of him were gone, part of what defined Fefnir as who he was, and that wasn't something he could quickly or easily get past. He supposed that was how she'd felt when the dragon had separated from her and become part of her student for the years she'd been away. It was enough to make him almost miss the phoenix. Almost.

Alone with his thoughts and enjoying the room discouragement usually took up, he returned to the chair, finding it colder than he remembered, and allowed her to walk away soundlessly without sparing another glance in her direction. That way, they could both pretend she hadn't been so close to crying. She... she misses him so much... he realized, more recognizing a fact that was setting in front of him that discovering it, and absentmindedly spun the other ring, a thin band of silver inset with an diamond cut amethyst surrounded by actual diamonds, from his necklace on his index finger as he continued. The one person who would get that isn't here, either. Maybe... she just needs to let go of hope. Sometimes that's just all you can do...

After all, that's what he'd done, wasn't it? The red man didn't want to think of it as a mistake. He wouldn't forget, but he knew better than to believe his lover might come back after this long.

Maybe that was why it hurt so much that he couldn't remember her voice anymore.

Fefnir's gaze fell upon on the fighting arena in front of him, unobstructed even by glass now that he'd broken it, and there was nothing much to do or say. Try as he might, there was nothing but emptiness that he could perceive in the whole of this complex even as so much activity took place around him, and no thought dared show itself while his his heart guarded the borders of thought so thoroughly. He had a long, lonely wait ahead, and no friend in the place to share it with.
