Rolling again....

Accidentally didn't post my post in this post...

He was charging again and the warrior in her stayed the dominant state of mind and before she could think she was stepping to the side and when he reached where she should have been she lept on him and grabbed his shoulder with her sharp teeth, biting into the male before releasing him and fleeing a few feet away, standing in the shade of a tree which only furthered her camouflage.

She was watching him through intense eyes. "Beware confidence, Icarus, do not let it overcome you. Keep the logic of the warrior in your mind and do not think..." she stopped because if she continued her words would have slurred. She swallowed heavily and grunted, "Come."

xxxxxIcarus snarled in frustration as his maw grasped at air and instead was jumped. Once more a cry of pain bubbled out of his small frame. The haze was deadly and he was aware that he needed to take more care. Blood slowly pumped out of his shoulder, mixing with the muck turning it into a dark burgandy. The blue-eyed orange wolf watched her orbs and narrowed his own.

xxxxxHe breathed deeply, realizing he had gotten too cocky. Absorbing her words, he understood. Pale-blue eyes locked onto the gray femme, quietly noticing her fatigue. He took measured steps towards her and began to circle. Logic told him that rather than recklessly charging the female, tiring her even further would prove to be a much more efficient way. Icarus focused on his heat. He could use the ability to its fullest in this situation. Warmth around him grew and reached further than he had thought he was capable of. It sunk into the mud before him and hardened it. The pads of his paws stuck into the half-solid muck beneath him and he used this to gain purchase.

xxxxxThe orange creature paced carefully, taking the route of a large circle around her, but slowly getting nearer and nearer. He was gradually closing the distance between them. Suddenly, his eyes flashed and he bellowed a snarl of ferocisty. He used the cry as the encouragement he needed to charge once more at the beast before him.

xxxxxA deep huff of a breath and a wide stance later he was prepared to launch his attack. Lips peeled back to expose crimson fangs and with all his strength he leapt over the small distance that remained between himself and the warrior. A howl of a battle-cry crackled through the air as he threw himself onto her back.

He was slow in the next attack, and that too may have been an error because it gave her a few moments to rest and made it easier to follow his movements. She watched the earth harden and smiled in appreciation for the male. Atta boy. she thought, smiling proudly.

She watched and waited and when he attacked, she took advantage of him being ariborne. He was flying at her and she lifted up on her hindlegs and launched forward and raked sharp claws down his chest before her shoulder his his sternum and she rolled over them and past him again. She spun around to face him, now standing tall on the hardened ground he had dried moments before.

xxxxxA howl of pain coursed through the orange creature, realizing he had made an error once more. He shrunk away for a moment from the femme. She had been holding back, this was her true strength. The entire match she had kept this power, hidden and saved up for when it truly counted. She seemed ready to collapse, but still she clung on and furiously ripped at his every attack. Icarus panted heavily. He was satisfied, he could happily leave this match, victorious or defeated. The face of a true warrior was there, inches from his own visage.

xxxxGrateful for this turnaround, he knew this was a solid learning experience as well. This was a chance to see a true warrior femme at work. She had taken him seriously, as he had wished. He chuckled to himself as he realized the pain that was shooting through his limbs. Icarus found irony in the fact that he truly, asked for it. No, he had begged for it. He licked his lips of the now-dry blood. Somewhere within him sparked and he craved more. The adult called for the final blow.

xxxxxIcarus took advantage of the small space between them. He narrowed his cerulean eyes at the gray femme and tensed, ready to spring at any opening provided. It took him a mere second and then he lunged at her. Paws raised and incisors bared he charged at Faiyrn.

The cold warrior faded for a moment at the sight of his joy. This was what he truly wanted. She watched as he seemed to think and watch and learn something from where they stood right then and there and she smiled, then Faiyrn stepped out once more and the warrior Fay was there again.

He attacked her and she dropped and rolled away so he landed on empty air and she kicked out at him, catching him in the side and sending him off of his feet. She could have done anything then, she could have leapt on him and she could have ended the battle, but she wanted him to stand with her face to face and she wanted to see the male as tired as she was, she wanted to give him the experience of standing hurt, exhausted but proud because he was still standing, and so she turned and watched with cobalt blue eyes.

xxxxxIcarus' chest heaved heavily. He felt all had been lost as his last attempt had failed miserably, being once more refuted by the female warrior. His eyes sparked as the fae stepped out of the haze, the smile on her face made his pale-blue eyes smile themselves. Exhausted, he was, many times more than he had been before facing Paden. He could feel his entire body sink into the muck. There was nothing more that he craved than laying down in the moist soil beneath. Warmth retracted like a rubber band stretched too far. It sapped his strength like a relentless leech.

xxxxxHe fell into the dirt without much resistance. The cool embrace of the muck was comforting as it gently soothed his entire body. It closed around his limbs truly allowing him to relax, a state of bliss calling to his tired mind and body. Fatigue not only claimed his body but also his mind. Mentally and physically he wanted to just give up and give in. Suddenly remembering himself, his pale-blue eyes opened wide. Although he could not spring to his feet as he did before, he rose to his feet. Cautiously, he took care to not push his tired muscles too far and make them collapse. He had already worked them so hard and they could not take much more abuse.

xxxxThis would be his last, final attack. There would be nothing more after this for his body would not be able to cope. He felt the wounds on his body bleed, stealing away from the last reserves of his strength, beckoning him to the ground. With a gruff shake of his head, he tried to wake himself up. He found it hard to focus, but he forced his mind to stare at the beatiful wolfess before him. Even covered in muck, the wirls on her body gave her a gentle form, pretty in every way.

xxxxHe trudged towards the female through the mud. The ground was no longer hardened nor solid. He could not handle it. With the last vestiges of his strength, he bristled for a final time and raised his hackles. Muscles became so tense they seemed ready to burst and with every last bit of energy he could muster, Icarus barrelled towards the warrior in front of him with a satisfied snarl. No matter what, he was pleased. The respect he held for both of the warriors was immense and would remain so for the rest of his life.

That was it, and she knew it when he charged at her. She felt the exhaustion build and she wanted to just fall, then and there, but true to the warrior to the end she rand at him head on and when she would have lept over him at the last moment the muck took hold of her paws and she faltered, and that ended the fight. She snarled and tried to wrench free of her restrictions but he collided with her and she was thrown free of them.

She tumbled to the ground a few feet away and she rolled through the mud. She panted heavily and lay exhausted for a few moments before she rolled onto her stomach, and her blue eyes sought out the two warriors who she'd fought, and a gentleness found her sapphire gaze once more. She was too tired to walk, and an airy whine of pain escaped her as she crawled closer to the young male.

She lifted her head and licked the bleeding bite at his throat and then gently licked his shoulder. After a few moments of resting she rose to shakey legs and nuzzled him. "You were Amazing Icarus... I lost to a true warrior today..." she whispered softly, stumbling to A'cuil's side where she collapsed once more and began to groom the other, checking his wounds and making sure he was alright.

She licked his cheek and spoke, "He did it, A'cuil. He fought hard, and he won a warrior's battle."

The river beside the dueling wolves rushed by, unheeded. It had no care for the wolves and their struggle, nor did it care who among them fought and fell. It didn't even care about the marshland muck it dragged along with it, bubbling and churning by in the turbulent swiftness of the waters. It was only a river, after all.

Thus, it did not care about the prone spotted wolf that lay on the marsh-bank, his nose bobbing listlessly on the current. The river did not care about the cattails it sent throbbing along his matted fur, or about the sweet breeze that stirred motes of the caked-in dirt and gore there. It also did not care about the loosened marsh mud, that could not support the weight of such a heavy creature, or the way that it had slowly been slipping down into the water. Bit by bit, the land that the wolf's body lie on was flowing away, and the river didn't mind or care about it.

So it was that A'cuil's body began to slip into the uncaring, unforgiving river. As the violent battle wound itself down, the huge wolf's form balanced for a single glistening moment on the bankside, ringed by cattails and the idyllic babbling croon of a river undisturbed. He did not feel the gentle fae's tribute before some accident of providence tipped him in and the warrior slid, eddying and swirling, unconsciously down into deep waters.
