"well, off we go..." He gave a nod and a heft, and started following his path back towards the campsite.
"It's not too far... about fifteen or twenty minutes..." He called back.
Before long at all, the sound of running water reached their ears and they emerged to the riverbank and continued to follow it in an Eastward direction.
"And.... let me know if you happen to spot any long pieces of wood... or anything flat that I could use to help with the shelters.. like a bit piece of flat... bark.... ggrrrr.... what I wouldn't give for some plywood and hammer and nails.." He chattered as he walked.
Smells and sounds were all around them - rustling and birdcalls and scents of the paths of animals. Maybe, Ambrose thoguht, if he could retreive some of that scrapmetal without killing his nose again, he could determine some animal paths to set something up along or camp besides to try to catch something.....

Cassidy had only managed to take a few bites of mango, and then mostly out of politeness; it just didn't want to go down without a fight.
But, once again in Vasile's arms, she resigned herself to being carried. Hopefully, once they reached this camp, she could get around on her knees, at least a little.
"It's dumb, you know," she said suddenly. "There's all these animals around--I can smell them--but I'd be surprised if very many of us knew anything about hunting, especially without a gun."

"Well," Vasile tried to think back, "I've seen a lot of movies. We could try to build some traps. There's that one where you dig a whole and then cover it with leaves and stuff..waiting for something to fall in. And maybe we could make a fishing pole out of something."
Vasile tried to sound postive, but he was very worried about how useful he could be with his, admittedly, pretty spoiled background.

"I was in the boyscouts for.... a little bit." Ambrose winced. "I apparently retained enough to be able to get a fire going... but to be honest I'm not sure how effective I'm going to be with actual hunting...." He sighed. "Ironic given my.... changes. I could probably ... track something - as strange as that sounds to me. But as far as catching up wiht something if it goes off running through these thick woods.... let alone taking it down..." He shook his head.
Ambrose paused to reshuffle his things while trying to pick up another long, thick fallen branch. "Not much further..."
And sure enough, in sight now was a cluster of low lean-to shelters by the river bank, and a lowly smouldering fire.

"It looks... surprisingly civilised, really." Cass grinned, though it was slightly forced. "I don't think I could have done quite so good."
Oh, she was going to be an awful drain on resources. Maybe she could learn how to start a fire with two sticks.
Or cook, or something. Anything so she'd be useful.
She had to suppress a brief moment of panic at the sheer uselessness of her situation.
