He smiled, shifting his weight to the other side. "Yes! We will have to meet and compare again in the future!" he said with a bright smile. After her description of the dessert lands, he was quite intrigued and wanted to visit them again.

His ears flickered as she continued and inquired of his travels, "I have not been in this area long... Perhaps a few weeks?" he wasn't sure of the exact date. It was hard to tell sometimes when one land ended and another began. "I just wander here and there, learning what I can as I go along."

He stopped and took in a deep breath then exhaled, "I'm.... I guess you could say I'm searching for myself. I'm afraid so far, I've failed miserably at it."

She pulled a face at his confession. She had never been one to hide her thoughts or feelings unless it was a matter of life or death. Her expression wasn't designed to be offensive but it was clear she didn't regard his confession as particularly impressive or worthy of pity. She would have been regarded as rude in these moments, potentially inconsiderate, but thankfully she chose to explain her behaviour rather than leave it for him to read into - after all, he probably wouldn't have responded particularly well to it if he had been allowed to dwell.

"Why bother?" she asked at last and shook her head, her pendant swaying gently from side to side. "When you look too hard for something, especially on a personal level you end up lost," she pointed out quietly. Her tail rose up to her shoulder and brushed her mane away from her shoulders, allowing the cool breeze to hit the side that had previously been shrouded in warmth. "If you keep asking and questionning your own motives and judgements then all you find is self doubt and even more questions."

"Vicious cycle," she pointed out plainly. "My sister told me to 'figure it out' once and I look too hard, I never find answers that way and I grew frustrated," she sighed softly and fixed her gaze on the stallion. "Just when I stop searching, I find my answers and they were right in front of me," she explained. She rolled her shoulders just a touch in a loose shrug, she wasn't aware that her Kawani had become a touch broken but it was sometimes unavoidable. "We blind ourselves when we try too hard to find an answer that we consider to be far beyond our reach. We place greater purpose, direction, who and what we are on a very tall pedestal."

"If you are not happy, if you are upset or frustrated... Well," she shrugged again and smiled somewhat sheepishly. "You are doing it 'wrong'," she finished.

A somewhat perplexed look crossed the stallion's face at the mare's reaction, but as he listened to her explanation it all started to make sense. Her logic was sound and it struck a cord within him. Perhaps he -was- trying to hard... He tried so hard to make sense of the way he felt and the way he thought of things, but he should just let it happen and see where he ended up.

"Zukii...." he bobbed his head slightly, his expression that of one in thought, "You are a brilliant mare." he stated plainly to her. "All of these years I have searched and searched, when really.... I know myself." he lifted his head a little higher, a little more proud.

"I'm not a bad kirin for wanting different...I still follow most of our ancestor's ways, but I don't have to be an exact replica of my parents to be a good example of our species."

"You know, I would have missed seeing extraordinary places and exotic soquili I had lead the typical lifestyle...."

"I do what I can," the mare replied modestly as he became aware of the reasons behind her behaviour. She hadn't set out to insult anyone and thankfully he had taken the moments to listen to what she had to say before he came to any conclusions. That being said she had stated a rather plain piece of advice, mostly from personal experience and wouldn't have described herself as 'brilliant' for it - truth be told, she'd had to experience some pretty horrendous things to even have that epiphany. What was more ironic was that she was fairly certain her superior officers had already told her something to the same affect a long time ago.

...Maybe not in the same words.

Nevertheless his reaction to her words as they set in was really quite startling. He'd been a tall Kirin before but he seemed to 'puff up' just a little more as if she had inflated his ego. Well, perhaps 'ego' wasn't the right word to use but his self confidence had certainly taken a well deserved boost. A tiny part of her was satisfied that she had achieved the desired affect, though whether or not he found every answer he sought was something she definitely couldn't help with.

"To remain isolated and ignorant to the world beyond a tiny forest does not make you strong, it makes you naive and vulnerable," she pointed out with a small nod of agreement. Perhaps he didn't follow the shy and isolated views of most Kirin but neither did she and she was far better for it too. She would bet good money that the service she provided and the service he provided to those he met would be far better than any other, simply because they understood.

"Clearly your hooves decided to lead you elsewhere, they sensed greater things in your life, no?"

"You are right. If I had stayed in our grove, there would have been many things that I would have missed. Many things that I would not have learned..." his smile broadened as he continued to think about what the mare had said. He was not soiled because he had chosen another path in life. He could still be the kirin he wanted to be, just, with a twist in the lifestyle.

"I always thought I just traveled where the wind blew, but suppose there were other..." he stopped to think of a proper word, "the fates were at work" he just shrugged it off.

"It's amazing to see that what you're looking for is -right- there. I just needed someone else to point it out for me," he looked over to his new friend. "I'm glad our paths crossed today, I would have been searching for a long time for something I never lost."

"What did I tell you?" she tilted her head to the right very slowly and smiled. However, this smile was a little different from before, perhaps a little more gentle and with eyes filled with a wisdom of one who had experienced the trauma of a 'fruitless' search. She may not have given her life story, but it was there in the pages of history somewhere, or would be when the victors documented their tales of war on behalf of their leaders.

"When you stop searching, you open your eyes to reality," she spoke softly, the pendant on her head seeming to still as though it no longer felt the need to mirror a pendulum. It was purely coincidence and she would have been the first to admit this herself, but to an imaginative individual they might have assumed that time had 'stopped'. Or at least, their time with her had ceased - their auspicious meeting had come to a close and the outcome appeared to have been a success.

She had served her purpose, or so she could safely assume.

"The answers are always right in front of you," she continued in a low murmur and turned her gaze towards the horizon briefly. Her smile deepened just a touch and the aged-gaze vanished to be replaced with a more impish twinkle.

"But alas, I gain itchy hooves - I think perhaps it is time for me to part ways with you, Syri," she lifted her voice a touch and returned her gaze to him. "Perhaps when our hooves next cross you will have many tales for me and that you have found the answers to your remaining questions."

Syri laughed at her 'itchy hooves' statement, he was glad to have met the wise mare.

Lowering his head, he gave one last smile as he bowed. "I hope that it will not take too long to meet you again. It has definitely been a pleasure... and a learning experience."

He raised his head and made a motion with his head for her to go, "You best be on your way, your hooves may not like if I keep you much longer," he offered one last nicker and turned to follow his own course, a new sense of self in his mind.

"Ah yes, they certainly wouldn't," she agreed and paused momentarily as her hooves found their route. It took a while, but eventually they seemed to make their decision and she began meandering in the direction she had intended to go before her encounter. As hooves went, they were fairly intent on taking her to whatever lay beyond the horizon and who was she to dispute this desire? So long as they didn't spin her in circles she would find it quite acceptable, she didn't appreciate dizziness a great deal and would prefer to have avoided it!

"We shall see how long it takes, you may have grown a great deal by then or very little at all," she chuckled and gave a wave of her tail in a gesture of goodwill and farewell. "It will just depend on when my hooves gauge that a sufficient amount of time has passed by - it could be next month, it could be in a number of years!" She glanced over her shoulder and smiled encouragingly before her pace quickened and she moved on.

...All in all, she'd rather enjoyed that. It had given her the opportunity to practice her Kawani, she knew she'd most likely made errors. But on top of that she had been provided with a rare opportunity to share her experiences with another in a constructive manner, in a way that had helped! She certainly wouldn't make a habit of it, guiding lost souls wasn't really her forte but it did make a mare feel good when such things happened.

The smile would remain on her lips for quite some time.
