No! Hadn't he already said that? Didn't she LISTEN? No, he was very well not going to be her father! He was not the parental type. And she was a foal! Like he was going to saddle himself with a foal? Please! Get real. He was just trying to keep the little one from getting hurt or disappointed! That was all! What part of any of this made her think he was going to be her father?! He hated foals. No. Her would not be her father. No. No way. No how. Not happening. Nuh uh. Can't make him. No. No. NO. No. No chance. He wasn't going to do it. Of course, if he didn't, she might insist on finding her father again. That wouldn't go well. But no. No. Well, he could lie. She wouldn't know the truth. He could say he was so she'd listen to him. But no, something about that set his teeth on edge. Fine. He wouldn't lie, precisely. But her couldn't agree honestly, and if he said no, she could get herself hurt. So... no. but he couldn't just say no. But he couldn't agree either. UGH! Foals made his head hurt. "Whatever," he grumbled. She could take it as a yes, if she wanted, he wouldn't be lying, per se. It was the best he could do... his tail flicked.

He stifled a groan and closed his eyes. Great. Just great. Now he was saddled with a brat. Just perfect. He opened his eyes. Now what?

Pachu'a followed after her, ears flicking in annoyance. "More forest," he growled. Why wouldn't she just stay still so he could figure out what to do with her? Little brat! Little annoying foal! This was why he hated foals. Yep, absolutely abhorred them. He winced at a tree root, hoping she didn't tip over it.

Of course, his silent prayer only served to amuse the gods. The young foal's attentions were on the tree branches and not the ground. Her dainty hoof invariably found the root and down she went with a half laugh half squeal.

He dived, trying to catch her. He was only rewarded with a pulled muscle in his back. Mentally he tried to remember why he had even attempted to catch the little brat. She was clearly fine. And it wasn't like he even cared. No, he certainly did not. No way, no how. Seriously, though. Couldn't she be more careful? For his sake, at least, if not or her own.

Ah, and as time goes on, he'll probably be asking himself that question quite often. As she grew into adulthood, Lian would have continued being impossibly curious. When she decided to learn how to fly, she attempted to do so by jumping off a cliff. It didn't occur to her to tell Pachu'a that there was a broad ledge below.

And he would have panicked and fussed and fretted all the while desperately trying to tell himself that he didn't care. Nope. Not one bit. The times when she would vanish for adventures would leave him beside himself with worry.

That day came shortly after Lian reached adulthood. It was early morning and she nudged him lightly, seeing how much it would take to wake him.
