"Oh, she's still allowed to talk to those in our wing, and she'll talk to those we went through weyrling training with." The greenrider looked exceptionally sheepish as he added, "But you might imagine other people were very shocked to be addressed by a dragon out of the blue, and it had caused a bit of a commotion. Hence, the queen giving her a direct order to cut it out." He patted the flank of his dragon carefully, though he was almost sure she was too preoccupied with the firelizard to be paying attention--she was still very sore on the subject. "She is very good at respecting the wishes of her fellows though; most of them aren't comfortable with her bypassing them, so she won't. Others that humor her get their ears talked off." He was thinking of S'ren--because Tereth had never minded Eltimioth chattering on, Tereth's rider was usually stuck hearing her as well.
Eltimioth made a little rumble of pleasure as she moved to settle her head on one of her arms. We are going to be good friends, little one. So maybe she did want E'lai to get her one...or two of them. A little group, to fetch and carry and bring her back shiny things. She very much liked this idea.

"I guess I can see how that might be a problem," Gabriel said with a slight frown. "Still, I find it neat that she is so friendly. Mind if I ask how many 'humor' her so to speak?" She wondered to herself what exactly a dragon would be chatty over, but then figured that she would probably find out in time. Even if hers didn't speak that much she could probably at least garner a better idea of what they might be interested in.
Mossy was curled up quite comfortably now, and quickly found herself falling back to sleep. Her afternoon nap had been interrupted after all when she had nearly fallen from her human's shoulder before.

E'lai cocked his head to the side, as he tried to mentally tally up the poor souls who were too nice to object. "Hmm...at least a dozen or so, I want to say. Mostly she just bothers them if their dragons have told her something and she wants to know if it's true," he added wryly. "Even with a short memory span, dragons can be bad as the aunties when it comes to gossip." Worse even; the fact that they couldn't remember it all just meant more gossiping when they ran across something they perceived to be "new" (even if it was old news).
She barely felt the fire lizard's weight upon her head, but the lack of chatter made the dragon suspect the tiny green had fallen asleep. Content, she cast her attention back on her rider and the candidate girl. At least you are always well informed, Eltimioth said in response to E'lai's statement.

Gabriel giggled at this. "I've heard the same of flitters. I suppose when you're telepathic it's only natural to be inclined towards gossip. Ah, the food!" she exclaimed, remembering when noticed the plate in the green-rider's hand. "Sorry, Eltimioth. I suppose you'll be wanting your snack?" It would be bad to let the leftover food get cold after all.

The snack was not my primary motivation, but it would be welcome. Eltimioth paused, and seemed to be trying to look on top of her head. I am afraid the little one will wake.
"Chew very carefully?" he suggested, a little embarrassed he'd simply forgotten the food he was holding. I can feed you like we did when we were weyrlings--piece by piece.
I am not a dragonet anymore, Eltimioth said, half amused and half affronted at the suggestion. Put it down and we will see what happens.
"Very well," E'lai said, chuckling as he complied with Eltimioth's request, placing the plate (which was really more like a woodern serving tray) before the green. Translating for Gabriel's benefit, he added, "She's worried about waking Mossy but she didn't like my suggestion."

"Ah, sorry about that. Here, I'll take care of her," Gabriel offered, reaching up to carefully pluck the firelizard from Eltimioth's head. The young one wriggled sleepily and complained a little at being moved, but she quickly settled back down to sleep as the teen held her in the crook of her arm, petting her soothingly with her free hand. This flit can sleep just about anywhere, she thought to herself with an amused smile as she continued to pet the tiny green. "No need to worry about waking her anymore. I hope you like the food."

Eltimioth was a little reluctant to relinquish the flit back to her proper owner, but she supposed it was for the best. E'lai would get her one of her own later on anyway. She devoured her snack quickly--it was truly just a "snack" for the dragon--and turned her whirling blue eyes back at the pair of humans. Tell her thank you, E'lai-mine, the dragon instructed, a hint of her irritation seeping through at not being able to simply tell the Candidate herself.
E'lai smiled. It's for the best, he reassured her. "Eltimioth says thank you, and she wishes she could tell you herself." He knew it wasn't the same, but hopefully Gabriel would appreciate at least the thought.

Gabriel smiled at the message that E'lai relayed to her. "You are quite welcome, Eltimioth. And hey, after I've been Impressed you can always speak to me then, right? I'm sure my dragon wouldn't mind being friends with a lovely green such as yourself." She truly underestimated the magnitude after chatter that might result from such an offer, but she didn't particularly mind. At least then she would be able to easily keep up on Weyr gossip.

E'lai was sure he detected a gleam of triumph in Eltimioth's faceted eyes, and inwardly groaned. Another one duped... "You may well regret your offer," E'lai said, shaking his head sadly. "Perhaps your future dragon would have a stronger self of self-preservation."
I am sure that with her so charmed by myself, she could only Impress a dragon that likewise would be charmed, Eltimioth said haughtily, and E'lai wasn't sure if the green was serious or just messing with him.
"Eltimioth says good luck as well," was what he decided to translate instead.

"Self-preservation? Clearly you underestimate the importance of Weyr gossip," the teen said with a laugh. She nodded to E'lai's translation of Eltimioth's words. "Thank you." Glancing skyward briefly, she was quite a bit surprised to see that so much time had passed. "Snap, I need to get going. I'm going to have to drop off Mossy at the Barracks before running off to class." Time certainly flew by when one was having fun. "It was nice to meet you, E'lai and Eltimioth. I hope I can see you around more in the future." She gave them a partial bow before quickly walking (she couldn't run without waking the flit) off to her sleeping quarters.
