*nods nods* Yeah, doing this should come off as a nod to fans, not a forceful headbutt that would make things awkward. Espcially with touhou's fan community, with certain fanon being more well known than canon, I think it would be a good idea to drop little refrences to fan jokes or you may risk giving the Touhou anime a too foreign feel to certain fans who have gotten comfortable in fanon (such as personally I get alittle weirded out thinking of Momiji and Aya having a bickering fued relationship after getting so used to Momiji being displayed as Aya's loyal side kick so often). Ofcourse trying to actually implement some fan jokes would just be weird. So having a buch of disembodied heads jumping around would just be bad, but maybe having a lazy Reimu resting her head on the table and replying to another character to "Yukkuri shiteitte ne" or "Take it easy" may bring a smirk to some fans, while not breaking the series.

True, but with something like touhou, I think it is important to undestand both fanon and canon, understanding how they relate to one another and differ. Even what is canon is not set in stone, Reimu's purple hair for an example. Also take a look at super man. Super man flies right? Origianlly Super man merely leapt the great distances, the flying idea was liked better and became canon. For better or worse, what will be remembered in the end is the most popular idea as opposed to the origianl or true one. "Luke, I am your father" is far more remembered than the actual "No, I am your father" ... I forgot what point I was trying to make, I am just kind of rambling as I am tired.

The reason I brought up the hair is because the point of having something canon is to keep consistency within a story line. The fact that her hair is later black seems to overwrite her previous purple hair status, but maybe her hair did just simply change color and they don't want to go into details about it, its a small detail anyways. But it is such vagueness and holes in what is concidered canon that raises some questions. Such as why is Reimu complaining about cleaning in her bunbunmaru article when she has a robotic maid. Why has Mima been so quiet for so long? Who actually does resolve the incident sence it would seem that would depend on the players choice? It is however this vagueness which has allowed for several Fanon theories to fill in the gaps. Its a fairly unique situation as what is canon influences fanon, which seems to in turn reinfluence canon in some cases. This unique situation also allows for a type of social evoloution, as there are several ideas out there, but the best end up being the ones remembered and referanced, survival of the fittest. I think the point I was trying to make was that because of this relationship, to get a grasp on Touhou and its culture you got to kind of understand both canon and fanon. However I can't remember what my actualy objective was as I am about to fall face first into my key board, need sleep...

And what parings were those?
Aside from the Aya-Momiji one, that one I know.

If anything, I'd say that Marisa and Alice are simply friends.
Judging by the pre-combat dialogue in PCB, they simply get along well.
