Heart pounding, adreneline rushing, Emerwyn realized this was her only chance.

In times of extreme stress, the human body can do amazing things.

She leapt to the side, snatching up the branch in both of her hands. Of course, she still had not the strength to lift it. But, luckily, the branch snapped giving her a jagged branch to swing out in front of her.

Pausing for a moment, Cheshire laughed outright.

"...And willst thou fight the Jabberwock? Don't make me laugh, my foolish girl! Oh, bloodstained wood - you wish you could...the Cat says, claws unfurled...."

He stood upright on a tree limb, balancing precariously for a moment before pouncing to another and lowering his head as if to pounce downward.

"...'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves...did gyre and gimble in the wabe...all mimsy were the borogoves...and the mome raths...outgrabe...."

His voice gave way to a low feline yowl. His tail swished for balance.

What the hell was she doing?
How was this supposed to help anything? This, this pathetic excuse for defense. Meanwhile, this demon was waiting to-
She didn't want to think of what he was going to do.
The branch was held in front of her, angled up towards the Cat, visibly shaking.

The poem was over.

With a hiss, he leapt down off of the branch, landing on another, then bounding off that one, diving headfirst for the ground.

His fur was standing on end, his claws ready to tear into her - he crouched a couple feet away, looking more like a cat and less like a human being in mannerisms by the moment.

"...You really intend to use that, do you?" His grin was a grimace, his eyes burned.

...But who was his Jabberwock?

He was right. This wasn't going to do any good.
She alone could not stop him.
Here she was, tired, hungry, pratically naked, lost in the woods. Armed with a stick.

But, she did not have to be alone.
She had called Julian back before...

How was she to do it this time?

She cast the log aside, and looked up at him. Her face was unreadable.

This caught him off-guard.

He took a step closer. "...Thinking, thinking, what to do. You see, now, if you had just listened to be to begin with, you would already HAVE answers."

He pulled himself to his full height, holding up one hand and looking at her through his claws.

"...Alice's sister doesn't belong here...you're not where you're meant to be."

Emerwyn thought hard. She remembered the one page epilogue to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

"But, I did come to Wonderland. And do you know who led me here? Not the White Rabbit, but Alice herself. I saw everything she saw, and then, I saw Alice. I saw her simple, loving heart, and her bright, honest eyes."

How often had she forced herself to fall into Cheshire's world. Playing his game to try and play him out.

He listened to this...then visually faltered, his claws dropping a bit.

"...But you didn't belong here...she shouldn't have taken you here...."

Looks like Emerwyn had just struck a chord. And Chesh would tire out eventually....

Emerwyn was empowered by this, and she went on.

But, one must be careful. Using one's own weapon against them can be a dangerous game...

"But she did. You see, while you led her, she took control of her own life. And, the Hatter, the Duchess and Wonderland with them, all disappeared as she awoke from them. And it is she who now has the choice to return to Wonderland. Or to stay away."

She felt the ice crack beneath her feet as her words weakened a little. But that meant that it was underneath his, as well.

He screeched at her.

"NO! Wonderland NEVER went anywhere!" He grasped at his head, the claws of his thumbs digging into his cheekbones.

"And Alice trusted me...she confided in me...until YOU woke her...."

But he was getting confused. His tail bristled, the fur on his chest doing the same. He wobbled, tail lashing.

His loud and angry scream was not nearly as terryfying as his calm and malicious demeanor.

She took a couple of steps closer to him. She went on, eyes clear, and half believed herself in Wonderland. She lowered her voice, keeping herself collected. Soft, like how Cheshire's voice was when it frightened her most, but with a different air. The air to use against one like the Cat. Soft, and sweet.

"What kind of a trust is it when based in fear?" A couple more steps closer. "Trust consists of a balance between those involved." Closer. "Trust consists of love." She was face to face with him.

His hands dropped slowly away from his head, his eyes bleary.

Feebly, he swiped at her cheek with one last derisive movement.

"...Love destroys in the end. You'll see."

His legs gave way so that he was on his knees, leering back at her.

"...You'll BOTH see...."

And with that, his head fell into a bow, his body crumpling into a little ball against the dirt.

Her head whipped back slightly, only a minor recoil to the wound he had dealt her.
She ignored the trickle of blood that ran down her cheek.

The taste of victory far outweighed the taste of blood on her tongue.

She locked eyes with him, never wavering as the demon crumpled back into the shadows.

She paid no heed to what he said. She had won this battle.

...But he wasn't motionless for long. He moved, very slowly...pushing himself up onto his hands and knees.

"...Cheshire...has gotten a little bit...mean, hasn't he...?"

Uh-oh. It wasn't Chesh, but...it was a little high-pitched to be Julian. The voice from earlier.

...It couldn't be....

"You," Emerwyn was taken aback. This was not Julian. He hadn't returned yet.
This, this was the voice from before...

"You helped me." She knelt down beside him. She wasn't sure what to think, but she knew that feeling that she had gotten from this voice...

Let's hope it wasn't mistaken.
