A letter arrived in the mail. Kalena saw the familiar writing and a smile traced her lips. It was from the Soul Emporium. Signing for the letter, she turned around and found herself toe to toe with an extremely eager smile.

"What did you get, 'Lena?!" Rhydion bounced enthusiastically.

"Oh you mean this right here?" Kalena smirked, bypassing Rhydion and walking down the hallway to the living room. In her best pirate voice, she leaned against the door and growled, "Arg, this be out first big adventure, Matey! Batter down the haches, Rhyddie. We're going on a treasure hunt!

Rhydion's face glowed brightly. Running full speed, he tackled Kalena to the floor with a hug. All the evenings spent listening to Kalena's fantastic tales as he was falling asleep finally paid off. The pups rolled around beside them, barking happily. Kalena laughed as Rhyd ran around the room in celebration.

"Did you hear that, gang!? An adventure!! You're coming too," Rhydion beamed, scooping Beans and Zorro up from the floor. "They can come with us, right? There aren't any rules against it, are there?"

"Of course they can come along, Rhyd. A captain and her first mate are at a loss without their crew!" Kalena smiled, scanning the letter for any possible rules against it. "No worries, Kiddo. The pups can tag along in my purse."

~ ~ ~ ~

Kalena had been thankful that she changed into her trainers and jeans. The winter chills whipped all around her and Rhydion as they raced through the back streets of town looking for twelve beautiful roses, none of which were identical in color. The prize would be a special lower level lanturn for Rhydion to absorb and change. Running to keep pace with the bounding crop of pink hair, she realized that she'll need to add more cardio workouts to her jam packed schedule. Laughing, Kalena felt like she was eight years old again; running through the streets of her childhood.

"Go on ahead, Rhyd. I need something to drink,"" Kalena coughed, her voice rasp with thirst. "It's been three hours, and we're halfway there, Kiddo."

Rhydion bounced like a rubber ball, tearing down the alley ways ahead of Kalena. His silver eyes darted all around, sweeping the area for signs of any roses. Strapped to his back was a bag holding a long, white cardboard box. Within it laid six roses awaiting their friends: a lavendar one named Pippy, a turquoise one named Emily, the royal purple was Beniot, the magenta one Renard, a sapphire one named Esther, and a jade named Valentino. Hanging around his neck in a plastic sheath was the checklist. Kalena put him in charge of their adventure, so Rhydion thrived on being the keeper of the list.

"I won't go too far, 'Lena! I promise! C'mon mateys!" Rhydion smiled, silver eyes flashing in the lamplight.

The pups cooed and rolled around playfully in the carrier pouch Rhydion wore around his waist. Watching Kalena stop at a drink machine, Rhydion took the opportunity to do a little leg work of his own. Dashing up and down the rows of the park, seeing other lanturns or their owners about lit an indistinguishable fire within him. Shaking his head and flexing his wings, he caught glimpse of a flash of ruby red in a tree. A clump of snow fell on his head as he tossed a pebble up at the spot where he saw the red.

"Llama Jane's no match for the most cunning of Pirates!" Rhydion snarled playfully, pointing up to the trees. "Ye be mine!"

The pups whined and curled up into a pair of tiny fuzzballs as Rhydion shook the snow loose from the rope ladder leading up into the tree. Scaling the rungs quickly, he imagined the menacing pirate ships that Kalena described in the stories they read together. This was no tree, but the mast of one of the grandest ships to sail the seas.

Kalena's legs felt like rubber. Downing the warm corn soup that she mistook for coffee, she coughed slightly when a kernel got stuck in her throat. Cursing underneath her breath, she wanted to kick the person whose bright idea it was to put hot corn soup in a coffee machine. Glancing over the park, Kalena was surprised to see a flurry of color dashing about. It appeared that many owners and their charges were out part taking in the Valentine's spirit.

"Wow, I'd better hurry up. I don't want Rhyd to think I bailed on him," Kalena said, downing the rest of her soup.

Walking over to the recycle bin, Kalena washed out her can and dropped it in the appropriate recepticle. When she threw it into the bin, it didn't clank and clatter against the other cans. Pulling the lid open, her jaw dropped as she found her corn soup can resting on a bed of orange roses. Lucky for them and their eventual owners, she rinsed out her can before dropping it it. The water droplets glazed the roses with an icy frosting.

"Well Marcy," Kalena said, glancing at her list. "Come to Mommy."

Kalena plucked a single rose and her soup can from the bin before refastening the lid on it. Slipping the can into her coat pocket, she strode quickly into the park square calling out for Rhydion. It wasn't until she caught sight of a rustling tree with a group of people beneath it, that Kalena realized where the little mischief maker was. Opening up the second box that she kept on her back, Kalena laid the amber orange Marcy within before dashing to the tree.

"What in the blue hell are you doing up there, Matey?" Kalena scowled in pirish, pushing herself to the front of the crowd.

"We's found some buried treasure, Captain!"Rhydion bellowed joyfully, causing more snow to shake loose from the tree.

Pink legs dangled from a branch above. A silver bucket was his only company and most of the snow now covered the spectators. Kalena didn't want to ask. She didn't want to know. She was terrified of heights, so seeing Rhyd kicking his feet like he was sitting on a dock terrified her. With a concerned voice, Kalena called up to him. Rhydion smiled, clutching Llama Jane in his teeth like a pirate's cutlass. Bringing his other leg over the branch, Rhydion swung down.

The crowd scattered as the pink boy dove from the branches above and into his caretakers arms. Mutterings of irresponsibility and recklessness swept the group, until they realized what he held triumphantly in his hands. Hoisting Rhydion onto her shoulders, Kalena dashed out of the group as they all instantaneously lurched toward the rope ladder. Making their way to a bench near the fountain, Kalena plopped the little rogue down beside her.

"Y-you're not angry are you?" Rhyd said, seeing the look of shock and panic on Kalena's face.

"It's not that. I was just worried that you'd fall, and I wouldn't be able to catch you" Kalena sighed in relief, tapping Rhyd's nose. "Next time, take the ladder down, too. Okay?"

Rhydion had thought of Kalena as an older sister, but at that moment, he saw a softer matronly side of her. Throwing his arms around her neck, he thanked her again and reassured her that she would always catch him. Taking the box off her back, the Captain showed her first mate treasure of her own. The pups leaped out of the bag and into the box licking the orange rose playfully. In a hushed whisper, she recounted the corn soup folly that lead to its discovery. Rhyd scooped the pups out of the box and laid the ruby red beside her orange friend. Giving the pups a treat to chew on instead, the pair dashed off again. Taking some hot chocolate to keep them warm this time.

Two hours later, the ivory and pink combination of Helga and Akira were found at opposite sides of a inlet famous for couples confessing their love to one another under the stars and sakura trees in spring. The white rose was far more difficult to find in the snowy blanketed clearing. Had it been spring, the pink would be lost in the blizzard of pink that sweeps the area.

"That makes ten, Rhyd," Kalena smiled wearily, closing the box once again. "We're almost there."

"Only two left, right? The amber goddess... George, and the elusive onyx temptress, Yorda." Rhyd beamed, laughing at the funny names. "I like the name Yorda. I wonder where it comes from, Captain!"

Rhydion drew lines through the two latest acquisitions on his list, and then turning to do Kalena's as well. She ruffled his bright pink hair and smiled, lacking the strength to do much else. Five hours frockling through the cold would mean certain illness upon their return. The thought was less than amusing to Kalena, but she would endure several weeks of illness to keep that vivid, glowing smile on Rhydion's face. The painful achy feet and stuffy runny nose would eventually disappear, but this adventure they shared would stay with him always.

They headed down the path again, back toward the town center. As they hurried, they noticed that fewer and fewer people were around. Kalena found this motivating as she believed that many gave up and went home. Rhydion worried that others had finished and they were further behind than they had expected.

"If that's the case, Rhyd, then many of them finished without getting the white rose," Kalena said a matter of factly. "It was terribly hard to find, you know that. Even if we come in last, you're not giving up on me. We have the code to stick to!"

"That's right, 'Lena! I didn't mean to be a mutinous first mate." Rhydion said, blowing his nose in his handkerchief. "Don't make me walk the plank!"

"The plank's only if we admit defeat, Rhyddie," Kalena said, pausing to look at the map. Seeing a sign for a beer garden, she cackled in amusement. "Time for some more refreshment, Kiddo."

Kalena took Rhydion by the hand, and entered the buffet style restaurant with its beautiful gilded, beer fountains. Rhydion marlved at the sight of frothy, golden water cascading down the walls, but Kalena kept a firm grip on him to keep the alcohol out of reach. She apologized to the hostess for bring a child into the drinking establishment, but the older woman gave Kalena a wink and a knowing smile. Giving Rhydion a Shirley Temple to match his pink hair, the woman gave Rhydion permission to roam about 'searching for treasure.' The women chuckled as he tore off without even waiting for Kalena's permission.

Rhydion took in the atmosphere completely. Beat uo wood floors, loud chatter and rabble rousing, serving staff in costume: Rhydion was in a pirate bar! Walking around as quickly as he could without disturbing the patrons, Rhydion's eyes were wide, incensed with adventure. At the top of the beer river's stair case, Rhydion spotted a small pool to the side of the beerfall. Cast in shimmering golden light, Rhydion stretched out an arm to pluck a George from the shallow pool. Taking off his bags and setting them aside, Rhydion's small pink fingers groped for the yellow rose.

"Come on-come on-come on---" Rhydion pleaded, splashing his fingers lightly on the water's surface. "Gotcha!! Yesssssss!"

Slipping his fingers underneath one, he snatched one up out of the water. But lost his balance. The splash was heard throughout the beer garden, everyone looking around for the poor soul who fell into one of the beer fountains. Kalena didn't even need to think about it. Winking at the hostess, she asked for a towel, spotting the soaking wet child waving his arms victoriously at the top of the stairs. Thankfully, the rose pool was drained and filled with water, so Rhydion was not dripping beer all over the place. The patrons cheered and toasted the young pirate as he shuffled down the stairs, dripping wet and laden with bags.

"Arrgh, that's my boy, Rhyddie!" Kalena cheered, applauding her towel toga clad friend as he handed her the 'beer flavored' rose to add to her box.

The drunken masses of the room started chanting Rhydion's name. This time she crossed the name off their lists as Rhydion fought with the towel to dry off before they set out again. They had only one left to find now, the onyx named Yorda.

Featuring: Toshi & Vanescere

Toshi & Vanescere (Hakari-chan)
A tall, but small table had been brought out of the shop to it's front, and tall chairs had been placed around it. two of the chairs were currently occupied by a tall grey spirit, by the name of Vanescere, and the other by the bright magenta spirit, toshi.
Toshi was giggling at something her lanky friend had said over a cup of green tea, and Vanescere only gave her a wry look of amusement in reply as he brushed his one long lock of hair out of his face and took a sip of his earl grey tea.

Rhydion (kaleidoscopegrl)
= Rhydion =

Rhydion followed the familiar streets across town, only glancing at her map a couple fo times. Today was his first day out exploring on his own. Remembering all the rules, Rhydion charged forward, leaping and bounding. The sunlight felt warm on his face, as he hurried along to the shop.

Right away, Rhydion recognized Toshi's brilliant smile, but not the taller man with her. Playing with the straps on his new bow and arrow kit, he continued hopping along. His soft black and magenta wings, flapping happily with each step.

"Hi ya, Toshi! Do you remember me? Well, last time we met I was a lanturn," Rhydion said excitedly, jumping up and down. "I'm Rhydion! Kalena's Lanturn! Nice to meet ya, finally!"

Toshi & Vanescere
Toshi looked down in surprise at the similarly colored lanturn and then suddenly smiled one of her famous bright smiles and said "Of course I remember! It's been so long!" she said, tucking some of her wild magenta hair behind one pierced ear as she spoke.
"Would you like to join us for some tea?" she asked cheerfully, pointing to and open chair between her and Van.
"This is one of my best friends Vanescere by the way." she said, gesturing to the tall, grey man.

Vanescere nodded to the boy, looking the vibrant spirit over with solemn and deep silver eyes from over the rim of his tea cup.
"A pleasure to meet you." the soft spoken man said after swallowing his tea.

Rhydion

"Yes, please!!" Rhydion bounced, his silver eyes flashing with joy. "I would love to! Hello, Mr. Vanescere! You have eyes like mine!"

Rhydion flashed a big, boyish smile as he attempted to smooth his spunky, pale pink hair. Kalena always lectured about the importance of manners at tea time and in from of other adults. He carefully hung his bow and arrow on the back of his chair and climbed into the seat.

"Thank you for letting me join you," Rhydion said stiltedly, as if trying to pull a manners lesson from the back of his mind. "Kalena would be jealous. She loves tea, but work is 'driving her up the wall, out the window, and over a cliff!' Not really, but she's drama teacher... so she's dramatic!"

Toshi & Vanescere
Toshi giggled at the boy and poured some hot water in a cup for him and then offered him an assorment of tea bags to choose from.
"It's too bad she couldn't join us! Well here, choose your tea." She said.

"Or perhaps yours are like mine? I am older after all." the level four spirit said with wry amusement as he took another sip of tea.
"Oh stop Van." Toshi said, rolling her eyes.
"So Rhydion, what brings you out here to the shop by yourself?" she asked conversationally.

Rhydion
= Rhydion =

"I'll take this one," Rhydion said selecting one of the fruit teas and dropping the tea bag into his cup. "Thank you Lady Toshi!"

"I hope I can be as cool as you one day, Mr. Vanescere!"Rhydion said marveling at the cool composure of the high level spirit. Vanescere's rhetorical question made Rhydion pause and think for a minute. His silver eyes gleamed as his brow furrowed in thought. Finally he nodded emphatically in agreement with a smile crossing his face again. "Do you like to play Pirates?! You'd be fan-ta-stic pirate, sir!"

"'Lena said that if I were to go exploring, coming here would be the safest 'solo adventure of the Grand Pirate Rhyd'!" Rhydion said proudly. "She wants me to make friends, and says everyone here is nice. So here I am!"

Toshi & Vanescere
Vanescere blinked in surprise when Rhydion told him he'd make a good pirate.
"...would I?" he asked himself more than anyone else, and seemed to drift off into deep thoughts as his grey eyes got a faraway look in them.

Toshi shook her head, smiling, and said "Oh dear, you've gone and given him a silly idea now!"
Toshi took a sip of tea and said "So, you want to be a pirate? What happened to being a knight? I thought I heard someone say you wanted to be one of those and save damsels in distress?" she asked, eyes sparkling merrily.
"If you become a pirate, you'll be the one making the damsels distressed!" she said and laughed merrily.

Rhydion
= Rhydion =

"Or a knight! Yes, Sir Vanescere the Swift!" Rhydion said, enthusiastically. "Sir Vanescere the Mighty! With a big sword, nice cape, and tons of 'hair wind'!"

Thinking back to the stories that Kalena told him, Rhyd regarded Toshi with wide eyes. She had heard from someone else that he wanted to be a knight. Squinting his eyes shut, Rhyion's face seemed to glow brighter/

"Oh, you talked to Princess Hikari! Didn't you?! She's going to play pirates in the park with my and Mr. Aikori one day!" Rhydion said, his grin growing wider. "Not all pirates are bad, Lady Toshi! 'Before I am a gentleman, I am always gentle!'" Rhydion proclaimed, quoting one of the fantasty stories Kalena read to him.

Toshi & Vanescere
"Or perhaps you could be a...Pirate knight?" she asked jokingly.
"Steal money and rescue princesses at the same time even!" she said, laughing at the thought.

"It's hardly amusing. You obviously don't comprehend just what pirates are like." the man said dryly.
"They kill and plunder, rape and pillage...hardly a suitable occupation for a respectable spirit child." Van said, arching one eyebrow at Rhydion as he took another sip of tea, a slight breeze sending his short silver hair with it's one long lock fluttering slightly.

"You're always out to spoil peoples fun, aren't you van?" Toshi asked, rolling her eyes, but smiling at him all the same as her own magenta hair swayed gently in the light breeze that quickly passed.

Rhydion
= Rhydion =

Rhydion's face lit up at Toshi's suggestions, but the smile suddenly vanished when Vanescere replied swiftly. The color drained from Rhydion's face, and he looked at his tea cup defeatedly.

It was the first time, any spoke to Rhydion in such away. Remembering Kalena's lessons, he worried that he offended Vanescere. Folding his small hands in his lap, Rhydion said there quietly; unsure what to say next.

"I d-don't want to hurt anyone, Mr. Vanescere," Rhydion said softly. "I just want to help people. I want to have big adventures and big dreams."

Toshi & Vanescere
Vanescere only shrugged. He had not seen as much of the world as he would like, though he hoped to see more one day.
"A knight is good, I suppose..." Vanescere decided to refrain from filling the boy in on the facts of war that knights were involved in. "Though don't make up your mind so soon. There are many interesting different kinds of people." The man said in his quiet voice.

"Yes! I think you'd make a great knight Rhydion! but then again, you'd be adorable as just about anything!" she said with a laugh.

Rhydion
= Rhydion =

"I think you are right, but having dreams, aren't bad, right, Mr. Vanescere?" Rhydion flushed at Toshi's compliment. "Th-thank you! Thank you, Lady Toshi!"

His grin glittered as he sipped his tea. The aroma and taste was perfect. The refreshing breeze felt gentle on his face. His black and magenta wings perked up and flapped. Wiggling his shoulders, Rhydion smiled. He liked having wings though he wasn't sure if he could fly or not with them.

"I am exited to see my first spring!" Rhydion said, completely changing the subject. Staring up at the clouds in the sky, Rhydion's gaze looked so distant. "I hope that can meet more spirits soon! Spring's the perfect chance to start new and exciting adventures with people!"

Rhydion (Kaleidoscopegr)
[ Rhydion ]

Rhydion sat on the swings in the park. The sunlight was was on his face and the breeze in his pale pink hair. It had been a while since he could play with other spirits. Kalena was ill, so he had been taking care of her. Finally Kalena managed to kick him out of the house, forcing him to go play like 'a real kid'. He hadn't seen Eri or her lanturn, Mocha, for ages. He wondered when he would ever see Mocha again.

"I really need to make more playmates!" Rhydion said thoughtfully. "We can go on an adventure together someday!"

Mocha (Erina_Nobara)
[ Mocha ]

Mocha sat by the stream in the parking, silently washing the apples he'd brought with him. They sat in a small, wooden barrel by his side. He never liked to be cooped up in the house, and this gave him the perfect opportunity to be out and about. He'd wait for Eri to finish all her shopping. She'd meet him there when she'd finished as usual.

Suddenly, out of the corner of his eye, something caught the small lanturn's attention. "Huh? What was that?" The word 'adventure' had caught his ears. Turning, a small distance away was a pink spirit playing on the swings. "He seems familiar. Could it be....Rhydion?!" He stood up with his tub, and headed for the swingset, calling the other lanturn's name. "Rhydion? Is that you?!"

Rhydion
[ Rhydion ]

Rhydion's eyes went wide, hearing the sound of a brown spirit calling his name. Thinking back, he remembered their first meeting, but they both looked completely different. They were both, well, laturns at that time, flickering happily at one another. Drawing the swing back, Rhydion leapt from the swing running to Mocha at full speed!

"MOCHA! MOCHA! MOCHA!" Rhydion bounced. "Oh my gosh is that you!? I can't believe it! Cool ears and tail!! How have you been? It's been ages since we saw each other?!"

Rhydion's silver eyes glittered and his feathered wings flapped happily as he ran circles around Mocha. Taking his friend's new appearance, Rhydion marveled. Mocha's fluffy, ringed tail and cute ears quickly caught the pink spirit's attention.

"How cool are those?!" Rhydion gaped, touching the tail lightly."Its so soft. Is it real!? Can we be friends?"

Picnic Event!

Part 1 - Hikari & Rhydion (link)

Rhydion
With Kalena working overtime at the school, Rhydion decided to run to the picnic without her. After calling her at work, he styled his spunky pink hair and followed the directions to the picnic. Bounding and leaping like a superhero, Rhydion made his entrance at the park. Spotting a charming red spirit across the park, Rhydion broke into a sprint.

"Princess Hikari!" He called, dashing across the field. "Long time no see! How have you been?"

Princess Hikari (Xenostatica)
Hikari smiled and held up a flower for Rhydion, "I'm doing good, how are you sir gallant knight?"

Rhydion
Rhydion's face lit up as he accepted the flower form Hikari. Sniffing it gently, he tucked it over his ear. Plucking a pale pink flower, he knelt before her to present it.

"I shall treasure your flower," Rhydion beamed. "Please accept this in exchage! I've been great, but I am sorry it's been so long since I've last seen the fair princess's smile."

Princess Hikari
Hikari smiled and took the flower, "Thank you, kind knight is is a pleasure to see you again. And this flower I shall cherish for all time!" Dhe slipped it into her hair.

Part 2 - Rhydion meets Mikomi (link)

Princess Mikomi (Mizu_Taji)
Sighing happily to herself Mikomi preened through the flowers, trying to find the prettiest of the colors she had mentioned before, though she was slightly dissapointed that Hikari had seemingly missed her meaning for choosing them. As she plucked a pale purple flower from the ground, she heard a voice calling in the slight distance. Turning, she saw a pink boy heading full speed towards them.

Due to the lack of Tayne's legs, Mikomi had to improvise. Ducking amoungst some of the flowers she clug to her head, hoping the pink fellow wouldn't see her.

Why? Why is everyone charging towards me today? she thought in her fright, not knowing that he was actually coming to greet Hikari.

Rhydion (kaleidoscopegrl)
Rhydion looked up in surprise, as he caught glimpse of a bouquet of flowers with pale purple legs. Grinning at Hikari, Rhydion plucked a pink flower by his feet and rushed over.

"You're missing a pink one, fair princess! My name's Rhydion," he bounced, feathered wings flapping happily. "Let's be friends! Can we be friends?!"

Rhydion knelt before the young spirit with a sparkling smile and glittering silver eyes. She looked to be the same age as him, but they had never met until that moment.

Mizu_Taji
Peeking one eye out to see what was going on, Mikomi was a tad confused, at least at the pink fellow's greeting.

"You...you mean you weren't going to hurt me?" These people confused her, running up towards her at, in her view, blinding and agressive speeds, and yet wanting to be her friend instead...

Pulling the flowers away from her face she peered about, looking for something.

"Princess? I don't see any..."

kaleidoscopegrl
Rhydion's eyes widen with surprise. He couldn't believe the girl thought he was going to hurt her. Tilting his head slight to the left, Rhydion rose to his feet. A disappointed pout faintly appeared on his face.

"I was talking about you, Flower Princess" Rhydion smiled, pointing to the girl's arms. "I didn't mean to frighten you. I'm just happy to meet new spirits... "

Mikomi
"A flower princess? Me?" Mikomi was a bit astounded at the thought of being a princess. She peered back into her thoughts, trying to see if there was a story that she could recal with a flower princess in it...

She couldn't think of any at that particular moment.

"So what does that make you? A great hero?" she asked in true curiousity

Rhydion
"No, not yet! I'm still training, but one day, I will go on a grand adventure!" Rhydion rejoiced, with bright smile. "What is your name?"

Rhydion wondered if the girl wanted to talk to him or not. He decided that he wouldn't leave without at least getting her name. Rhydion ruffled his spunky, pink hair making it stand on end in several places. Looking around, the picnic was a great success full of people to meet. If the girl didn't want to talk to him, there were plenty of others he had yet to meet.
