The Haelstrom Fist
The entrance to a glorious dance, no less the first of its kind in this hallowed competition's existence. A dance after all, was so very similar to the motion and rhythm of a fighter that you could easily compare the two or even claim they are two portions of the same element of human artistry. Still, hidden beneath the festivities, there would be pre-fight gambling, domestic disputes, individuals seeking to break the rules to lethal extremes, and in general chaos. The usual security goons were no longer valid to handle this sort of threat with the rising popularity of the [GTB], ergo past participants with a solid track-record were welcomed boons to assure order.

Past the walkway outside then, a limousine came to a gradual halt before its rear-most passenger door popped open. Some polite words could be heard, along with the passing of metal coins over the seat - though no doubt they were much more than simple change - all before a figure gradually made his way out of the dark vehicle.

"..my, I can't lie and say this is something I'm used to." A low and slightly hesitant voice bellowed into the charged night air.

[Omi Barsait], participant in this clash of fists extreme, was standing idly by as the limo behind him made a slow drive away down the limited road-span. Transportation for show rather than for necessity, here was a man usually seen with wild strands of hair cast everywhere, metal mesh across his body, haunting snakes at his shoulders.

Tonight, his hair was combed backwards into a neat ponytail - demonstrating more of his face than the norm. His casual and battle attire were replaced by a clean, pressed tuxedo sans a bow-tie, and without the mesh ever-so-slightly deforming one's view of his bodily thickness, Barsait's thin yet broad-shouldered figure could be more readily taken in. Clean to the utmost detail, and gazing at the building he was to enter with the slightest intimidation. Those polished dress shoes were spread enough with both of the man's uncovered hands in his pockets, one could almost call him a non-formal fellow in a formal occasion if it weren't for those amber-brown pupils shaking a bit in fearful excitement.

Mingling, eating, those were things Barsait couldn't wait to partake in - unaware of the combat that would soon ensue. Of course, his date for this event was another matter to consider, as was his budding interest in creating more and more positive public image to begin the eventual conquest of this very land. Still, something in the chilling night air breathed into the [Serpentine Manipulation Artist] to simply enjoy the night and finally feel a little relation where he so rarely could otherwise.

Still, the small gusts of wind caressing his pale skin was quite the boon. Nothing to do but wait and watch, ignoring the droves of people now flooding about. It was time to enter a different state of mind, or perhaps an overtly familiar one denied..

((A quickie. For some reason, I felt like drawing this.))

"Ah, but I think the pleasure is all mine Miss Seyumi. Thank you for coming." He wasn't sure if he could say anything more at this moment without messing something up.

She gave his hand a light squeeze in response and the blush crept over her cheekbones, her eyes sweeping the floor modestly before raising to examine the other guests that were arriving.

"So... These are your opponents?" She recognized a few familiar faces from the years she participated in Heaven or Hell but for every one she recognized there were two that she didn't - and all of them daunting figures of physical prowess or unknown power.

"What made you decide to compete? Not that I don't believe you have a chance of winning. I'm just curious." She never really understood why people would fight for the sake of fighting, mostly because of her vocation and beliefs and partially because she had joined tournaments primarily to raise money for her constantly rebuilding Temple. To hear the reasons of men more suited for such bloody sport was always an enlightening event.

Thankfully as she queried James, the White Mage was blissfully ignorant of the vampire lurking in the shadows though her aura flowed freely around her, James and those they passed by in a circle of comforting warmth and light. She always expected to run into more then a few infernal demons at events like this but Seyumi was and always would be a woman who despised conflict. While most would simply feel the same comforting warmth in her presence as they did when basking in sunlight, those weak to her inimitable mix of light and divine energy would be simply warned of her approach by the same chill of fear that dawn struck in their hearts. There was nothing outwardly harmful about her in any way.

"Well, a sixty-four man tournament's gonna bring a lot of names to it. And that means fans, it means business, all sorts... I'm coming, woman!"

He gave her a dazzling grin and followed Iru to the food, taking it in critically. It wasn't a question of his not being hungry, but not wanting to mess up his suit. Of course, he had also planned on waiting for someone to say their date was the prettiest, and duel them, so it was a little contradictory, but oh well.

"I hope they don't have caviar. I don't like eating fish eggs... oh, they do. Wonder who'll eat that crap."

He kept looking around, and finally settled on a good piece of rich chocolate cake. After doing so, he'd float it a few feet over his head so as to have his hands free, and would wait for his date to get her food before going up to the table. He looked around for people to chat with while she decided, too.

I hate this cage.

The vampire lamented to himself in silent thought, his eyes falling half-closed. Chin lowering, he turned his lazy gaze to the palm of his gloved hand. It was the material that irritated him, he realized. It was white and caught the light of the place, was almost illuminated by Seyumi's incessant glow, he concluded.

How could that be possible? She wasn't even near him.

Fear gnawed at the vampire, an unfamiliar emotion that made everything feel prickly. His body could not create the sensation, as his long-dead flesh had no form of self-preservation. There was only the perversion of his will that could form emotions, each of them a crude mockery of their original form and function.

Ultimately, he knew that he could kill many of the assembled persons... but that would be a road to failure. He needed to play by the rules of men for a time. In order for his grand designs to bear fruit he would have to set aside his nature for a short time.

His gloved hand nearly ebbed into a steely claw as he spread his fingers and imagined the White Mage's still-beating heart splayed upon it, like some bloody pedestal. A testament to the unholy the likes of which would be found in some barbaric and wayward shrine.

Enough. Victory or Death.

Opening his eyes and lowering his hand, the vampire strode purposefully to the center of the dance floor. Alone, the monster waited for fate to weave him into place. He turned and his eyes locked on the target of his ambition, the soft glow of his irises drowned out by the artificial light around him.

All in due time, Sey.

"Heh. That does make sense. Even I have heard of a few people that participated, though I've never met any of them." She was a little curious as to the types of people that would show up. Iru giggled a little as she tugged him to the table, then looked at the spread. There were all sorts of foots out! There were even tiny brownie cubes! Those were awesome. She wasn't sure of what to pick.

She was NOT going for the caviar. "Oh that stuff is awful. I tried it on a dare once. It's sort of hard and then it is goo on the inside. It's so gross." She decided to get a plate with some carrot cake on it, with a few brownie bites on the side. That would be fine for starters.

With her sweets in hand, she would walk with Ross towards their table.

Hands a little heavier, she carried two glasses by their stems.

They were for, well, not anyone but herself. Draining one she shamelessly then drained the other and set both down with prompt deliverance. With an exhilarating gasp she shook her head, letting the sensation spring up then die down after the wine settled.
Now she was ready to take on a boring lonely night.

Glancing at the time she figured she would leave within the next hour or so, considering her date wouldn't return in time for anything. A fight could delay that. Though no fight was worth taking seriously at a ball, possibly she'd get involved if she decided to advertise her powerful hand crafted items.

She had to be a little business savvy.

Mentally she was rubbing her hands together with a bit of greedy little laughter.

Cael 0x
If there was a side entrance, the half-wolf Gaian named Rylen would have entered through it to avoid the glitz and glamor of the red carpet. Hell, he would have taken the service entrance. As he entered the ball room, his aloof crimson eyes surveyed the area. Wolfish ears twitched on the top of his head from the sound of dozens and dozens of conversations at once, plates, glasses and silverware clinking, heels and dress shoes tapping and scraping against the dance floor. His black, bushy tail curled up behind him almost like a scorpion's tail, a warning that the otherwise indifferent half-wolf was not entirely passive.

He had simply arrived to the ball by walking there. If that made him look poor, his choice of formal attire did not help. He wore a black sweater over a button-up dark gray dress shirt, with the sleeves of both rolled up to his elbows. Underneath them he wore a long-sleeve black undershirt to match his black slacks and black dress shoes. And to throw it all together, a lazy crimson tie. It was the best he could do on his rather limited budget, but that was not to say he did not look good. It was no custom-fitted expensive suit, though. He also did not sport a 300 gold hair cut, letting his short, boyish cut of black hair stay loose and unkempt.

Slinging his hands in his pockets apathetically, the half-wolf took a few steps into the building to find a suitable wall to lean against for the time being. He had a date, but he had not seen her in a week as he had spent his time preparing for the tournament. She knew where to come, though, and she would come in her own time. In fact, if it wasn't for her, he would have just continued to train on his own and skip the event. Of course, there was always the chance that he would witness a fight, or get into one himself. The prospect of getting to know his fellow fighters a bit was intriguing, even if it was in a setting that was about as far as you could get from a fight. Then again, with the kind of crowd that entered these tournaments, the fight would no doubt follow them anywhere, formal events be damned.

"There you are!"

Isabella could have spotted Rylen out of any large crowd easily. It was as if she were lead straight to him just walking into the luxurious hall. But there were several things that made it a bit easier to find him right away. For one, it was his loneresque personality. At a big social event like this, people who didn't mingle stuck out like sore thumbs. And she knew Rylen was a bit hard headed, there was no way that he would ever follow her advice to network and get his name out there. And then there were his physical features. While there were plenty of others like him, he was very unique. At least in her eyes he was very unique. She could find his tail, his ears, and especially his eyes with little effort. And then there was his sense of fashion. Plain, simple, not very impressive at all. At a place like this where people were either showing off their best or displaying just what kind of lunatics they were, he was an easy target to find for simply being in the middle.

Isabella pretty much came out of no where, glowing in the soft lights. Her black gown sparkled and her black scarf and gloves shined. The red ruby around her neck sparkled like a tiny star in the endless night sky. Like Rylen's outfit, it was quite simple. But the simplicity was what made the outfit stand out. The accessories, the fabric, the tailoring, everything about the entire collection was connected as if they were meant to be. Of course, each separate article deliberately crafted to come together as one stunning piece. The clicking of her dark heels stopped as she stood in front of Rylen, her characteristic grin formed by her lips.

She sized him up, her eyes looking him up and down making a judgment on what he considered formal attire. It was very plain, and it wasn't exactly very formal. Though, rebellion against normal fashion norms was a major part of young men's fashion. At least he had his short tucked in and wore a tie. She could have considered herself lucky that he didn't show up in a hoodie and pants. But even if he wasn't the best dressed out of all of the men there, she had to be a little forgiving. That outfit was definitely pleasing by accenting his muscular frame. It was work that could rival her own private tailor.

"Why didn't you tell me that you needed a suit? I wonder some times if you'll ever learn how to deal with these kinds of people."

She spoke to him in a teasing tone, letting the strap of her black diamond studded purse hang on her elbow as she stepped forward and wrapped her arms around one of his. She pulled on him, as to yank him away from the wall, while bringing herself to close to his side and turning to look up to him. Her grin had softened to a smile, the week away from each other felt much longer. She missed gazing in his eyes, his touch, the warmth of his embrace. Her cheeks flushed a light tint just thinking about it. And that had to stop, so back to reality.

"Come on, let's go and dance."

It was more of a command rather than a suggestion as Isabella started to pull on his arm again and away from the wall.

Joseph was starting to be less Cocky, and a bit more tipsy.
Having found two bottles of the best Russian vodka in the joint, as well as about six shot glasses, he proceeded to find a place to set up ******** yall’s fancy a** dancing, anybody will some balls will sit down and drink with me. I got ten grand that no-one here can beat me!”
Joseph was ready to start some s**t, but not with fist, but with a more civilized method for a more civilized era: good ol’ Russian vodka.

"Why I decided to compete? Well... you know why I normally fight right? Tournaments are like an extension of that." James turned away for a moment to address a nearby waitress, then back to Sey.

"Do you want something to drink or eat?" He'd ask the waitress for a tall glass of water. Boozing can come later.

"You were raised and trained to heal the flesh and souls of men. I was raised and trained to guard the flesh and souls of said men. In another life, I might've been a paladin." he chuckled, then turned a little more serious.

"You know how dangerous the world can be, Seyumi, people like me need to become ever stronger to best monsters, demons, and evil. For me, a tournament's not about the money, or the fame, but the test of arms, a challenge. Its as good a place to test the strength of my will and my ability before I put it to the real trial in war".

He shrugged. Hopefully she understood. Seyumi might despise conflict, but it was ever prevalent in their world, and it would continue to be so as long as anybody ever lived. In the meantime, the waitress came back with their order, intercepting the couple as James led the two of them through the crowd to their table. They wouldn't have any real difficulty getting through the people, many parted to make way for the pair. The Scion of Flames and the Priestess of Falis were a beautiful match and extremely pleasing on the eyes, Seyumi in her gorgeous, innocent angel-like brillance, and James with his calm, confident nature, an ember eternally burning.

Rhoslyn could feel the energies mixing together in the room, and was, in fact, looking over the heads of everyone to see how many people he could place by aura. He could feel the metaphysical and metaphorical flames of James next to the more warming, friendly light glow of... that healer woman, the cool rush of KB over in the wherever the hell he was-

"Oh, I know a few. The inventor of the Deitric burger? He's a champion of the GTB. If you look over there, you'll see James with... I don't remember her name. Healer woman. And... I know these people through their biographies and applications, too. But a lot are friends, or I at least know them. Smile for the camera."

He did, hoped she did, then sat down and looked around, eating his cake. Maybe someone'd try to meet him and take out beef from his rejection of their applications - and he did note the fact that his arsenal was wider and deeper than most, so it was amusing for him to reject people on the grounds of being too powerful.

Esouna would approach the table of the man who proposed a drinking contest. No, she wasn't going to take up the challenge; she'd be passed out by the time the other person got tipsy. She had a sixth the body mass and three times the sensitivity of a human, and then there's the fighters. Instead, the two-foot tall fairy would drop off a cupcake for the man, like she had with the other person previously. With a smile, the woman pulled a strand of golden hair out of her eyes, then went to go do something else. Yes, Esouna was in a good mood today.

Anyway, she would return to the dance floor, or rather, the air above the dance floor. The fairy would resume her twirls and loops, a light bit of entertainment for anyone watching.

He heard her before he saw her and he could not keep his lips from cracking into a wide grin at the mere sound of her voice. It had indeed been a long week away from her, and this night would make for a much needed reunion. He turned to take a look at her and almost stumbled forward in surprise. She looked stunning, with the deep black her attire presenting a stark contrast to her pale hair and light skin. He immediately felt a rash of regret for dressing like he had, and he would only have felt worse had he the ability to read minds. He lowered his head bashfully, running a hand through his hair and looking away from her like a child caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

"Didn't think much of it..." He mumbled his weak explanation, though knowing him she would know the validity of that statement. He did not care for these kinds of formal engagements normally. But she made him want to care with how gorgeous she looked. Vivid crimson eyes flicked back to her and Rylen's grin also softened to a warm, genuine smile that would not have seen the light of day if it wasn't for her pretty face there before him, shining like the sun.

He did not object as she pulled him away from the comfort of the wall, because being with her was better than being anywhere else in the room. He spared a fleeting glance here and there around the room, staying far too alert given the circumstances that the two of them would be surrounded by potentially unruly types. But that was not going to stop him from enjoying his time with her.

As they reached a nice spot out on the dance floor, he took her in his arms to start them off in an easy waltz. It felt really nice to have her so close, and he started to let the colors and the sounds of the rest of the world drain away as he was drinking the magnificent sight of her in. His tail swished about and his ears perked up, tilting and pivoting every few seconds to keep the otherwise occupied half-wolf cognizant of the goings-on around the two of them.

"So, how have you been holding up?"

And why couldn't the fairy drop her a cupcake?

Metallic stilettos flashed across the polished surface she strolled on as she moved towards Joseph, lengths of liquid purple draping from her hand as she held up her skirts to walk.

Reaching him, she folded arms. "I want in." She said, tossing tresses with defiance clearly glittering in amber irises.

As she looked him in the eye she pondered whether or not she should cheat in this game. She had potions a-plenty hidden within pouches in her bodice. Alas, it still was a near sin to use alchemy for such trivial things.

Loner plays the loner

At least that's how it goes when you're near emotionally dead and have not a care in the world except to test your strength.

Which meant this droll-fest was nothing even close to anything that Haku would entertain. This wasn't to say he wasn't aware. Oh no. Surely you could also argue that he should be scoping out his competition. But alas; Haku had no interest in any of this.

Somewhere that could be labeled as 'No where'; the competitor sat alone with his back to a rock, swigging away on a bottle of cold sake. Well, open night air temp to be exact. Whatever. It didn't matter. He was finely tired, well worked out, and he had been since he signed up for this event.

If he could categorize anything as feelings, he'd have felt that he was prepared for this.

However; somewhere deep down inside he knew that he was out of his league. Only after his first round would he know for sure.

In the mean time; he'd be training diligently. Or at least far as any pre-match activity went.

Joseph smirked a tipsy yet sly smirk.
“That’s good to hear, now all we need is four more people to get in!”
He attepted to size up the drinking capacity of the woman before him. It was nigh impossible in his state but it helped pass the time.
