Athena's balance wasn't that great, so she was vulnerable to being forced like that by her leg. She was sitting on his back when he did this, so she mainly rolled off onto the apron on her back. Gaining side control would have worked had Athena not known the gravity of the situation. The moment she hit the mat, she swung her legs in his direction, practically kicking her booted right foot into his face to "back him off." Any smart grappler would not try to approach her at this point since her legs were pointing in his direction, upper body lifted by her elbows. Since he was going to react to keeping away anyway should his side mount fail, the neutral situation was gained, allowing Athena to get back to her feet.
It had probably had been over a minute since they were rolling around on the ground and she already felt like she was getting a good workout. Sweat was glossing her skin, but Athena had a lot more endurance in her body from those years of fighting. No one knew that grappling took a lot out of you in the first place. One round of grappling equaled three rounds of boxing, energy wise. She stood there with her body turned with the left side facing in James's direction, but her head was looking at him. It looked like she had a real grappler on her hands now.
Athena was cocky to begin with. She thought she could use a simple wrestling slam on him and go from there. But no, this kid knew how to control his center of gravity. Throwing him was going to be a lot harder than she thought. Then again, he knew, as well, the danger of ending up in a bad position if he gave Athena the chance. He was a Judo user while she was a practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It was a classic East meets West fight. The crowd cheered, regardless, enjoying that first struggle between the two. For Athena, it was expected, but for James, it was a surprise. He really had earned that spot as Grapple's lead promoter.
"Too bad he won't have that spot for long."
Athena grinned.

James was all grins himself, but he slightly more winded then his opponent. James trained hard, but he was still young and he had very bad genes. Much of his family was genetically fat or small, and none of them had very much endurance. James had to work three times as hard to get to the same place as someone with good genes, like Athena.
And he didn't work three times as hard. James was a tough kid, lots of heart and a lot skill to go with it; but his cardio was now fully in question. He was breathing from his mouth and his movements were obviously starting to slow down. He set his hips low and put his hands high to protect himself from strikes and just started edging toward her.
He wasn't quite sure how she would react just yet, so his hips were very low and his movements were quite slow. He was also watching her hands and feet carefully, not very skilled at striking himself he feared getting struck; for he had never been hit cleanly before. And like anyone who had never been hit with a full blown punch he thought he was made of glass, he wasn't but he sure as hell thought he was.
"I'm keeping this promotion!"
He said quite loudly as they were inches from closing range with one another.

Athena spread the distance between her feet and went into her bent over stance like before, arms out before her. When one meant bent over, it has to be realized that it does not mean the person is bending all the way forward. The stance she was doing was only placing a hunch in her back, which was mainly for preparing the arms for action and keeping a grounded posture. So as James inched closer, she did, too. The distance between their raised hands were within just a foot. Either of them could go for something at this point. Or, they could just keep staring at one another in an old fashioned Mexican standoff, to see which one would react first and if the other will be able to react in time. Athena's right foot was the forward this time. From the look on her face, she was finally taking this as if it was a title match.

James chose to react first. He feinted out with his right hand and actually attempted to grab her forward wrist, but he hardly expected it to work and thus didn't commit enough to it for it to truly be considered anything but a feint. At the same time he stepped in with his own forward right foot and stepped past his opponents forward right on the outside, thus crossing his leg over a distance and then shoved his body through the motion.
He would then attempt to hook her ankle with his own ankle as he pushed forward at her with his shoulder and arms; attempting a very simple but highly effective forward leg trip takedown, and if it worked he would actually fall with her into her own guard.
If it didn't work then they were now well into clinch range and would be fighting for position. Irrelevant his smile had faded, a lot was riding on this win for him. James didn't have the name Athena did, a lose here sent him into obscurity forever and he would never be able to rise through the pro fighting ranks; something that would utterly crush his spirit. James was young and very fragile mentally, losing here was not an option for him.
Kill or be killed time, this was about to turn into a dog fight.

Athena had a move stored in her head for this moment. She was going to attempt it because it wasn't your average move to go against in the world of grappling. She wanted to see whether he could counter it or not in time. In time was the key word here because the next couple of seconds will decide whether she gets him or if he survives for another minute. It all came to mind when he decided to go for the little leg trip. His leg was felt brushing against hers. She knew he was trying to knock it off. It was similar to the ankle pick technique that she would have used if he tried to use a takedown on her again.
Athena first threw her head into his chest. This will keep him back for the moment. His right leg was already the forward, so reaching it was no problem for her left hand, grabbing behind the thigh. Then she fell. No, he didn't make her fall because she didn't fall to the side or backwards. She fell vertically to the floor, sliding both of her legs inbetween his legs. At the moment, her hips were directly underneath his. His left leg was in her control right now as she gripped on it in a sat up position. He had a second to react until she goes to the next move.

She never even had a chance. The moment her head touched his chest shifted his weight to the right to force her head slightly to the side and bent forward, placing her head into his arm pit and then sliding it down so he could wrap his arm under her neck, he then took his right hand and slide it and gripped his left hand Gable grip style; the result was a standing guillotine, but he didn't simply keep standing.
As she tried to fall he dropped his weight, allowing her to fall. Do to the head control she had no way to 'roll' for the knee or ankle hold she was going for and was now in a mounted guillotine, he pressed the blade of his forearm against her neck and extended his back as he pushed down with his hips against her stomach.
She had no where to go. She could roll over and let go of his leg, but then he had a guard guillotine, and she couldn't simply pop her head out due to how tight the hold was. She had few options, and going for a submission of her own was not one of them. Even if she did find a way out, he now had her mounted due to the way she chose to fell by setting her hips against his.
With the choke locked in that allowed him to simply slide up into the mount as they fell. And if she chose not to fall once she felt the choke in? Then he would fall to his own back and pull a tight guard and arch his back and extend his hips, same choke, same win; different position.
All the while James was grimacing with force as he tried to force her to to tap or go to bed.

She had as much chance as anyone. As soon as she felt him placing his arm around her neck, she did not bother with tucking her chin. She wanted as much looseness as possible. As long as he didn't secure the other grip with his other hand, she was still free to escape. Her move was cancelable because she was not going to drop her weight until she had first secured his leg, and that wasn't happening with the timing of grabbing her head. So her instincts were to get out of there. She rose her left arm into the space between her head and his bicep, pushing on his bicep to create space. This will keep the choke from being initiated properly. Her right arm raised itself up to counter the other arm that was trying to secure the grip, giving her the ability to wrench her head out of his grip.
She remained in clinch, however, placing her head over his right shoulder. Her left arm overhooked his right arm that was previously squeezing her neck, and hugged it against her body, her right arm doing the same to press him close. The techniques shuffled through her head, coming to another familiar one. Athena was a wrestler, this was a fact. She loved being able to slam, throw, or do anything that was grapple power to her opponents. Therefore, the next move she did was merely a natural set up for a lot of these wrestling moves.
In this hug, Athena pulled on his right arm while pressing her head against its tricep. This way, she could push against the shoulder and use it as a fulcrum while protecting it from anymore attempts by his left arm. Her feet moved quickly in a circle, rotating clockwise while pulling on the left arm and keeping it in front of her bent over body. This would allow her to move herself to his right side, using both arms to secure his waist, and place her into the favorable rear position. She wasn't stupid. She knew very well that there was as many rear position counter moves as there were rear attacking moves. That was why when she did get into this position, she spread her legs and actually awaited for a reaction. James was readable. He got nervous over the first weird thing or got excited over one opening.

He let her take his back, a Judoka was hardly a normal opponent who was weak off his back in a standing position, if anything he was stronger. He would grab right forearm area with his left hand and slide his right arm up and placed the elbow against the right shoulder, all of this in one clean motion. He would then close his feet together and roll his hips to the right side, shifting all his weight right and then quickly forward into a judo throw. Unlike wrestling throws, which could be countered by setting the hips and grape vining the opponents leg, a judo throw actually worked best when the opponent set and waited for an opening, as it took advantage of the set hips to cause more momentum. The counter for this technique didn't exist in wrestling, and it was highly unlikely she would be able to counter such a technique. One thing she could do was keep her 'grip' around his waist, but this throw fixed that as well. As the fighters fell to the ground the judoka would wrench with his left hand on the arm of his opponent, breaking the clasp by also falling onto the 'fingers' of the Athena, he would then take his left handed grip and set his hip against her, he would hold tight against the wrist of the arm under his body and pull it out, he would then feed his right arm under her elbow and clasp his own wrist, and 'wrench' the joint up and out and then twist it the incorrect way of the shoulder joint while keeping his hips set on his opponents side. She could raise and grab him and fight the kimura, but he control over the arm by setting his weight on it. This allowed him to kimura his opponent from side control; and as he did this he pressed his back against his opponents side and raised his hips, setting down on her and wretching the arm harder. He wasn't trying to make her tap, he was trying to destroy her shoulder.

"Oh no!"
The crowd had been constantly cheering or jeering as the match between Athena and James went on. Photos were being taken, though with all the lighting there was no need for a flash which might blind the fighters. Among the many people collected to watch, one scurried off worriedly.
Hell, people up on the top of the stage had stopped in the middle of their work to stare down in awe. This was a titanic battle of wills, let alone physical prowess.
"We don't have a referee!" Brian fretted, grabbing hold of a mysterious screened box. Taking it with him to a phone, he started punching in numbers, all while excitedly chattering into his headset.

There actually was a counter to this move, and existed more in BJJ. Athena moved her left foot inbetween his feet and locked it against his left leg. He wasn't going to be able to throw her with her weight locked in this position, since it counter-balanced with his own body. It was about time Athena used her strength in this battle. Skill was one thing, but strength played a big part in this, too. Now came the wrestling. His left arm was suddenly underhooked by her left arm; and because his left arm couldn't get to her right arm, her right arm rose up to capture underneath his raised right arm. Both of her hands clasped behind his neck, locking his arms in the bend of each of them, placing him in a good ole Nelson Hold.
The fall would still happen, but Athena's hold was still active, so James would mostly just fall face first onto the apron. She would be mounted on his back while pressing down against his neck. This was known as a neck crank, which was probably one of the most lethal moves in grappling. For her to be using this technique against a kid showed just how serious she was taking this match. The kid would practically feel his spine being bent right underneath his skull, and it was not a very fun feeling to experience. Some of the people who recognized this move quickly became worried. They knew if she continued the move, this kid may not get to fight ever again. And we're not talking about paralysis.

((Like I said, I am just gonna roll with whatever you do. If we need to OOC confirmation, just reply to my PM.))
James wasn't some idiot, and when he felt his head get cranked he was slightly nervous. It was a shame Athena didn't block the throw correctly, by placing her foot in front of his own she actually gave him something to press against during the throw. She would sail over his head but James would go with her, but they would simply fall in a different fashion do to the increased leverage of how she blocked it. The only real difference is that he didn't have control over her arm and therefore couldn't fall on her; oh well. Athena was taller then James, therefore she about to feel something very painful.
Head first slam. The top of her head met the mat and she would let go, James kept with his roll and ended up on his feet. He turned and faced Athena with a scowl, she still tried these pathetic wrestling techniques. Which she didn't seem to understand is that in a fight based in the Greco Roman style clinch unless you were doing Greco or Judo throws you didn't have much of a chance of winning.
Was she blocking throws? Yeah. Was she doing it the right way? Not really. Rolling his shoulders he waited for her to get up, his breathe steadying once more as he regained some of his energy with the increased adrenaline. He was getting bored, he was going to finish her the Judoka way; knock out via throw.

Outside of the expo, a group of stoned hippies was protesting GRAPPLE.
"GRAPPLE USES CHILD LABOR!
"GRAPPLE UNDERPAYS THIRD WORLD FARMERS!"
"PASS THE ******** BONG, YO!"
"...you're holding the bong, ******** style="color: blue">"Dude... woah, that's deep."
"GRAPPLE HAS FLOURIDE AND IT WILL CONTROL YOUR MIIIIND!"
The group of tie-dyed hippies and hobos seemed to be mostly, well, hippies and hobos. They reeked of weed, really didn't consist of more than ten people, and none of them seemed to have any particular idea of what in the hell they were talking about.

Athena was going to fall regardless. The positioning of her foot was more so she could get leverage to hook the full nelson before they went plummeting to the ring. Despite the way he performed the throw, she wasn't going to be hitting the ring's mat headfirst. There was a lot of weight placed into her upper body. With the span of her arms hooking his arms, in addition to his own arms, when they hit the apron, the bulk of this will just have her roll onto her right arm, and cushion it the fall. She wasn't going to fall perfectly on her head unless she didn't stick to his body with her foot. Another reason for the foot lock: so he wouldn't be able to throw that much force into her. He could have saved himself the trouble and performed an easy defensive move to the Full nelson, but he couldn't do it after throwing his balance off into that throw. Then again, he had to have first been expecting that she would use it in the first place. It was why she was falling. She only read the move at the last second, so couldn't do anything more than stiffen the fall.
And that is when the realization would hit: she wasn't letting go due to this. She had a lot more control than he figured, especially since she had the experience under her belt with dealing with grapples of many kinds. This couldn't be stressed enough because experience and skill trumped skill in the long run. He had his moments to take the lead during the beginning of the fight, but it was now reaching the late game quarters of the fight. He wasn't going to last for long.
Twisting her hips to the left, she reset her position on his back, mounting it, and going into the neck crank move she previously was going to do. Right foot was knelt on the ring and left leg was resting on the other side of his body. With his arms in her control, there was little he could do now.
"The more you squirm, the worse it gets."

Good fight Vin, I wish we could finish it. Rule it a draw or continue when I come back on the 13th?
