Devi took a peek at what Corvus had painted. It looked somewhat like a horse. Devi thought for a moment and then tried adding some details. She took the paintbrush and added a small triangle to serve as a unicorn horn, and tiny winglike shapes of a pegasus. Thinking the wall will want something more extravagant, she then added what looked to be an elaborate and large hairstyle and even some pieces of clothing that would be ridiculous to fit on a horse. She had seen it online before. Somewhere.

"Is that whimsical?" Devi asked, to both Corvus and the wall. Her additions weren't that well drawn, but it was the thought that counts, right?

She stepped back along with Devi in order to appraise the other girl's work, head tilting to the side as she took in the weight of the lines along with the curls of mane and... Was that lace? On a horse? It looked like it, even if it wasn't.

"I wish... We had glitter or something." Corvus tapped at her lip thoughtfully as she looked on for a moment longer before shrugging her shoulders, addressing the wall instead. "Well, what do you think? We did do this for you, after all."

The disturbing part was that, once Devi had painted eyes on the jammed door, the pupils had moved around to take in the room. The eyes had strained over to glance over the girls and the paint that they were working on, then moved to other parts of the room. But there was no time to contemplate this as the words were twisting again, excitedly:

YES! THAT'S TRULY PERFECT! THAT IS THE MOST PERFECT HORSE THAT EVER LIVED! EVERYONE WILL WANT MY HORSE, EVERYONE! BUT THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE IT BECAUSE IT IS MY HORSE. I LOVE HOW IT WEARS SUCH CHARMING SHOES AND LEG WARMERS! SUCH WHIMSY! SUCH BEAUTY! I AM SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DOOR. THE BEAUTIFULLEST.

GO AND ASK THE JAMMED DOOR WHAT HE THINKS OF ME, PLEASE, DEAR DARLINGEST GIRLS! DEAR GIRLS! DEAR SWEET GIRLS.

Devi looked at Corvus, arched a brow and shrugged. This was one ******** weird experience. She looked over at the jammed door and - hey, did those eyes move? - walked over to it. She then rested her palms on her knees and leaned in slightly, like a mother talking to a toddler, or like Shaq talking to Mini Me.

"What do you think, Mr. Door?" For a moment, she hoped she didn't offend the door by assuming it was male, but she then realized how ridiculous the situation was that the door may even have a gender - let alone that she was having a conversation with it. "Is the other door beautiful?"

The doorknob hissed, "Are you kidding?"

The keyhole had opened like a mouth, the knob like a large nose. Drippy paint eyes darted around the room before fixing on both Devi and Corvus. "Beautiful, sure! Don't you know the song? 'If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, don't make a pretty woman your wife. Take it from my point of view.'" At least it was talking so quietly the painted door couldn't hear. "I tell her she's beautiful, she'll think I'm asking her out on a date. Give me one good reason to get into this."
PostPosted: Fri May 21, 2010 6:14 pm

"I can't say I've ever heard that song before." Her eyes narrowed, shoe tapping on the floor out of annoyance as she crossed her arms over her chest clearly not liking whatever kind of man this jammed door was. She was certain that their beautiful door could do much better and she was of a mind to tell him such...

... But that certainly wasn't going to get them out of the room so instead she snorted, letting her gaze drift elsewhere while putting Devi in charge of answering.

"Well, she might polish your knob and she might let you play with her knockers," Devi smirked.

What? Nothing wrong with a good door euphemism.
PostPosted: Fri May 21, 2010 6:22 pm

"I've only got the one knocker," said the door doubtfully, proving that euphemisms went completely over doors' heads. "Look, ladies, I'm a single door, I like being a single door, and as gorgeous as that horse with high heels she's got on her is I'm afraid of commitment."

"Listen..." She stepped forward, arms uncrossing so that she could place both of her palms flat on the jammed door as though pinning it in place while giving it 'the talk'. The teen's eyes were dark as she narrowed them on the drippy spots that made up the door's eyes. "... Our friend over there, the lovely painted on door? A lot of work went into dolling her up for you. Beauty like that takes time and effort." Something that she, as a teenage girl, knew tons about.

"She did all of this hoping to catch your eye and you're just going to blow her off?" Her brow lofted. "I don't think so. As a matter of fact, I think that if you were able to get a better look at her you'd see that she's completely worth giving everything up for. All you have to do is open yourself up to the idea a little... And maybe open yourself up in general. You see, if your door is open the two of you might be able to see each other face to face..."

Assuming the door she was talking to opened out into the room, at least. And opened to the side where the painted on door was on.

Men.

Devi didn't know a thing about relationships. She had just started her very first relationship recently, and they hadn't even had a second date yet! They were about to but, well, then Devi wound up in this strange place. But, she gave what advice she can, citing romantic comedies as her resource for all things related to love.

"You think you don't want to be committed, that's step one. But then you'll see how much you like her. That's step two. Then you get in a fight and never want to see each other again. That's step three. Then you fall and love and have a happy ending and the credits roll," Devi said, an explanation to the formula of romantic comedies. Which, of course, is totally realistic and helpful advice. "So why don't you just skip step one? You'll end up with a happy ending!"

The door seemed to contemplate all of this. "What you both said is nonsense," it said. "So I guess it all makes sense when you get down to it. But I want to see the goods first, you hear me? Tell her to open up so I can get a good ole squint at that horse with squiggles again."

It paused. "You can tell her I said she was cute."
PostPosted: Fri May 21, 2010 7:18 pm

Corvus stepped back, leaning away from the jammed door so that she could look back at the painted door. This door, that door, this door, that door... It was starting to make her head spin but finally it seemed like they were getting somewhere. Maybe.

"Did you hear that, dear darling door? He thinks you're cute." She smiled brightly, feeling somewhat triumphant as she made her way back over to their masterpiece. "He says he wants you to open up for him so he can get a better look at how beautiful you are... Isn't that right, Devi?"

According to the door, nonsense appeared to be sensical in this world. Devi would have to keep that in mind, because as everyone knows, talking doors are excellent sources of information about the realities of worlds.

"That is what he said," Devi affirmed. "So won't you open up for him?"

ALL RIGHT! the door twittered. ALL RIGHT -- I'M READY. I'M READY FOR THIS!

And the door swung itself on its painted hinges, wide open, leading away from the room. It opened on a chill corridor with wood-panelled walls and peeling wallpaper. The corridor split off in dozens of paths left and right, new corridors to consider, the floor covered in dust and dirt and bits of left-over machinery and broken jack-in-the-boxes and flotsam of all sorts.

And there were doors. So many doors. None of them would open.

On the walls there were sconces with candles to light their way. They could go whatever way they pleased. Every so often the wallpaper would change into paint or stripes or bare wall, and there was junk in massed piles everywhere the eye could see.

What would Corvus and Devorah do now?

[Sailor Corvus and Devi have completed the puzzle room and are free to wander the corridors. Your reward is being able to explore without interference -- for now. Remember that you can't meet up with anyone else until Stage One commences. Good job!]
