Basic tactical understanding is fine, but some of that more advanced stuff you just pulled out is really something only a tactical ninja would think of. Also, if you'll read my post again, you'll see that all of the stuff in bold was written on a scroll instead of said telepathically. Daichi formed a mental link with Mifuni, but hasn't said anything to him. You would feel that something is somewhat off, but won't be able to put your finger on it unless I speak to you or if another Mayu has talked to you through Telepathy before.So you do need to edit that part of your post.}



More was written on the scroll in response to Mifune's counterargument, and his body shook for a couple seconds as he silently chuckled.

Do you really think I intend this upgrade for bandits? We need reinforced gates to stop large numbers from entering, whether that be a mob or an army created with flesh and blood or clone types. Plus, the easiest way to make this gate even matter at all is to booby trap the trees and walls. Nobody in the villages ever leaves via the trees just outside the walls, so we won't have any issues with villagers getting caught in their own traps. We can also create a seal barrier around the village which will make entering anywhere but through the gates to be more trouble than it's worth, but we're going to need to have a sealer trained in sealing to do that.

As to them attacking the walls directly without a seal in place: These walls are made of stone, which is a much harder material than wood. We need these extra braces to make the wood sturdier, which it does by putting less stress on the hinges in the event of a force trying to enter. If we don't have the seal and someone does break through the wall, such an effort would surely be quite loud, and thus they would attract just as much attention as if they had tried to assault the gates. Besides, why would you say we need to use the gates as a choke point for mass slaughter when you said only small numbers would be assaulting the gates, hmm? That seems hardly worth the risk of keeping the gates weaker. Besides, no army is perfect. It's certainly possible an attack force could get through our sensory defenses and attack the gates, at which point I'm sure our villagers would appreciate the time the combined drop-down supports and seal barrier can provide for a defense force to be amassed.

(( the point of the mental link is that he cannot speak, he is mute... it allows his rpc to communicate with yours via thoughts as well as you with his. You can break the connection when you wish, essentially bar him from your mind so that he cannot auto dodge, it is merely a way for him to speak with you, or perhaps spy on your thoughts the first time he does it but now that he has your rpc should know what it is and therefore be guarded against it.))

" So Ken-san, what is there to be done?" Heliel lead on to ask, looking around, wondering what he should start with first to make the gates as soon as posible, the faster they were done, the sooner peace treaties could be done with other villages, and hopefully, something like this would never happen again.

This post will count as post 6 of the reconstruction. Ken has been working for 4 of Raijin's posts, and we'll just count this debate as two posts in terms of productivity. Remember that even if you hit the 15 post mark, we have to keep going until the gates are fully repaired and upgraded. That doesn't mean we'll have to mess with the traps and seals Daichi suggested because those affect more than just the gates, but I think I have one more upgrade in mind to propose. Once the suggested upgrades are done or denied, then we'll move on to the next area of reconstruction. ]



He doesn't understand, thought Daichi. He has some warped perception that everyone's always awake, always at their best, and that they fight with honor. But that's not how it works. People get tired, people get lazy, and people get bored. You have to make sure you have defenses that can buy you enough time to prepare yourself for an attack if one sneaks up on you or if you need to thin out the enemy's numbers before engaging them in personal combat. That's basic strategy. The other engineers at the table were looking at him to see what his reaction would be, but Daichi decided that no retort was needed. More writing was placed upon his paper.

"I don't know about you guys, but I don't think someone who thinks everyone should fight with a 'line up and die' mentality should be in charge of security. Honor and glory are of no use to the dead." The head engineer and an assistant engineers at the station nodded silently while the other assistant was staring in shock at Mifune. "Well?" asked the head engineer. Daichi looked down at the papers, and was sure his idea was at least a place to start. "I think this is fine, but I'm only here to offer advice. The decision is yours, head engineer." "Looks like a fine upgrade to me. We'll start there." The next five minutes were spent fleshing out Daichi's drawing to give specific details of the procedures that needed to be done, and the head engineer then raised his voice while pointed to the carpenters and Ken's group.

"Alright. Once the gate's main structure is complete, I'll need two large timber cut in half along the width and have the four pieces placed so that one is two feet above the ground and under the top on each door. We'll then need the hinges installed on those new top timbers, and four more large timbers with two being wider than the other two. The thinner of the large timbers will need to have 45 degree angle cuts on each end going in opposite directions, and then we'll need two fifteen foot deep holes dug for the other two timbers to sit in. Once those are buried in the ground so that only about two inches of the tops of the thicker timber are showing, then we'll need those notches carved into the wood for the thinner brace timbers to land in. Anyone who needs a to see the drawing for measurements can come on over and look."

Just in case you are wondering what the different means of speech are that I type out (when posting as Daichi):

Daichi looked at the newcomer Enro through his helmet, the man who was supposed to be leading the squad. Well, he makes quite a statement with his clothing to say the least, though I'm sure he could afford new ones. The fact that he wears such clothing to look impressive and tough makes him not those things in my mind. And perhaps instead of asking why something isn't done, he should actually help instead of standing there. Late too, I might add. Daichi turned his attention back to the drawings, and realized that they hadn't sketched the roof yet. He nudged the head engineer and pointed at his writing, and the man started sketching with Daichi. Once the roof was finished drawing, they could get the drawing out to the carpenters after the gates themselves were put up. No need to swamp them with work. Let them get the main task done first. Daichi and the head engineer spent the next several minutes making the drawings and agreeing on what materials should be used.
