'And when, or where will your journey end?'
Chatura asked, again attempting to sound casual in the asking, as if the answer would make no difference to her whatever he said. Everything he said was making her believe that he would be gone from her life just as swiftly as he had entered it, but if she said anything he would probably dismiss her feelings as being a hero crush, something that had come about out of a sense of gratitude for his stepping in and saving her blue bottom. But there was so much to it than gratitude (for truthfully she felt that above even her guilt); there was a spark that had flared from the moment their eyes had met.
'There is something more to consider, Kalona blood is demonic in origin and so there is more that must be resisted in order to be what you and I would consider as good. I hasten to add I myself feel no compulsions for anything that might be considered 'normal' Kalona behaviour.'
She looked at him and nodded. 'Does that surprise you? I like you very much Cloud..' she shook her head this time, and smiled.
'Your actions were not at fault at all, and maybe if they leave scars they'll be a reminder of my folly. Let me worry about your injuries, how are you feeling now?' she asked with the first hint of gentle teasing that she had been able to show.

Her words moved though his mind, pulling him back to that day that felt both a lifetime away, and just yesterday, the day the weird two-legger spoke to him, in his own language, and he understood. Letting his gaze drop he lowered his head with a heavy sigh, weariness rolling over him as the past and the near future weighted down on muscular blue shoulders.
"Soon.. for I can not bare it not to be... I am travailing to my family's home, I have been away for a long time and the spirits seem to think it is time to return." Blue ears pressed backwards despite the pain, fresh blood oozing slowly from the shredded one. Stretching his head out along the ground, the stallion closed his eyes, pale blue muzzle resting close to her. Letting himself simply breathe in her scent and warmth and gentleness a moment.
Lifting storm-hued eyes to her as she continued to speak, he offered a faint smile. "You really do know a lot about Kalona don't you." He smiled gently, eyes impressed at her knowledge. " I admit, I tend not to think about who has what history, and only worry about kalona if one is hunting me. Ive met a mare who had paws for her front feet but was totally unrelated to any skinwalker that she knew of, and a stallion with huge leather wings, he was an a** but no kalona."
Lifting his head he couldn't help the smile that touched his muzzle, a soft warmth briefly melting the old weariness in his gaze. "Yes, few seem to wish my company for long, only Kanti a lioness friend, but she has been away for some time now." Chuckling softly at her gentle teasing he experimentally shifted his back leg, though stopped almost as soon he moved and tried to hide the wince of pain. "Better than they would have been without your treatment, but if we do not get somewhere safe soon, I will be too stiff to move tonight." His voice was soft, apologetic, as if he blamed himself for being mortal.

She watched him, the pain on his face and the heaviness surely having nothing to do with what had recently transpired. When his head lowered and his eyes closed she lowered her own, her nose gently touching the top of his, the edges of her fringe just resting on the length of his face.
'I know enough of the basics of their behaviour, background.' she said, lifting her head a short moment before he did the same, gently flicking her mane from her eyes.
'I wish your company. I wish it..very much.' Chatura lowered her gaze, shy almost as she confessed a little of what she was feeling. Shyness was forgotten at his next words and she looked directly at him.
'We should move then..so that, that you can travel on.' she didn't want him to leave but obviously he had a place he wished to go, and for her own part if she thought on it, she became a touch nervous at the thought of being out here at night.

The warmth of her muzzle and the gentle weight of her mane against his face was like a tiny piece of heaven. An escape from the worries and troubles that had worn on him these past few moons. Her voice was calming, a gentle soothing flow that he wanted to sink into, to let it carry him away, forever. How peaceful, to listen to her always, to never worry again.
Lifting his head he smiled softly at her words, for she was brave as well a smart, to have been around kalona for any length of time and still survive. A little reckless too maybe, but still, he admired her persistence. Then suddenly his chest tightened, her next words startling him.
She.... wanted to stay?
Storm-grey eyes fixed on the mare's beautiful violet gaze, stunned, almost un-believing. She.. really wanted to spend time with him? To.. know him? Him, a simple stranger? The thought made his throat tighten, and a strange hopefulness rise up within his chest.
Clearing his throat, gaze dropping with an embarrassed flush, the stallion tried to reply, but it took a couple of attempts before he found his voice again. "We should... But..I uh.. I can not go far for a while.. until the leg loosens up again.. Um, do you know someplace I.. we.. could rest?" His words dropped off, half mumbled as he stared at the ground before him like a colt with his first crush.
Get a grip! She will think you an idiot!

She wondered what Cloud was thinking; if there was good thoughts on his mind. Or if he was just continuing to be good, and kind until he was rested enough to leave her. Despite her words there lingered between them the fact that he was just passing through. Chatura did want to get to know him, they had spent such a short time together and she wanted to spend much time with him but she had to face facts.
She looked at him, heard his stumbling words and her ears flicked with a mixture of amusement and confusion. He surely wasn't tongue tied over what she'd just said? He was older than she and so surely he was used to such feelings being expressed even if he had confessed to being in others company for only short periods of time. Maybe he was embarrassed for her , that she'd said such things after such a brief acquiantance.
She shook her head quickly. 'To be perfectly truthful I am a little lost now, my flight here was not planned and my bearings are gone. But we should move, you can loosen your limbs and as we walk maybe I shall recognise my surroundings.'
Chatura stood, shaking dirt and fragments of leaves from her pelt amd mane. She'd pulled back a bit, but only because her logical side was taking over for a while, at any moment the Kalona may come back to seek retribution for her injuries and neither of them were in a position to fend her off. Especially if the mare returned with another of her kind, as Chatura knew it was perfectly possible for them to pair off, or form alliances.

Lifting his gaze once again, just catching that smile before she turned to the more important issue of surviving with a Kalona possibly still nearby. He couldn't help but feel the warmth her expression gave him. But.. she was right, as much as he wanted to stay this close, they were not safe yet, and he would never forgive himself if she got hurt due to his distraction.
"Thats alright, we can wander and see what we find, its my usual way of doing things." Offering a reasuring smile he paused a moment as she stood, letting her settle on her feet and move back before he tried to stand. Taking a breath he braced himself for the pain that moving was sure to bring, then with a huff of breath he pushed himself to his hooves, wincing as the back tried to bare his weight and pain flared through his nerves from the stiffening wound. Limping a step he gained his balance, the wounded leg held up as he waited for the pain to fade to a more tolerable level.
Why was it they always hurt a lot more after the fact?
Once the pain ebbed, he carefully lowered it, testing the limb by taking a few careful, faltering steps. Tail flicking at the discomfort, but knowing he could at least walk on it, he looked back at Chatura with an apologetic smile. "Sorry.. it will be fine when we get moving." Pausing a moment he glanced around, listening for any sign of unwelcome attention, but as the area seemed peaceful for now, he turned back to her. "Shall we...?"
Turning, he limped up along side her then nodded to a faint path leading away from the direction the kalona had gone.

Chatura watched, waiting as he got to his hooves, the strings of her heart gently tugging with concern and guilt. He was obviously still in a lot of pain...and she only hoped that wretched Kalona was feeling the same, and that would make the mare reluctant to return any time soon.
'Okay, but not too much wandering for your sake..' she said, looking him over as he joined her side once again. She listened, canting her head and flicking her ears, trying to catch any unaccounted for sounds.
'Yes, I think we're good to go..if you are ready?' she asked, suddenly realising that at the end of this faltering journey they would probably be parting ways. She to go to her home, and he to continue his own journey once he'd had rest in a safer spot.
Well, it would be best if she didn't think about that, and so moved in the direction he had indicated, pausing a short way down the narrow gap through the trees to wait for Cloud.

"Of course..." A soft chuckle slipped from the stallion as he met her gaze, trying to reassure her.
Cloud dipped his head in agreement as he began to hobble forwards, his movements slow and stiff at first but gradually, as they traversed the half-hidden pathway, the leg began to loosen up and though it was still painful, he could walk on it without it collapsing, though he did stumble a couple of times when he jarred it on a root by accident.
They moved slowly but surely, leaving behind the blood-stained clearing and putting distance between them and where ever the kalona mare had gone to. Cloud had to stop every so often, resting his leg and catching his breath. The cut over his eye opened up once again and he frequently shook his head to try and get rid of the blood that obscured his eyesight. Eventually, as the heavens crawled slowly across the skies above hem, Cloud came to a stop, one muscular shoulder leaning heavily against a stout, twisted tree.
"This has to be far enough...." He said softly, breaking the silence previous filled only with his slightly rough breathing, blue head swinging round to look at Chatura, ears low with weariness and pain. He could not go any further, the soreness of his leg had increased and every step was like walking on sharp flint. His muscles ached abominably and his strength was near gone. He had to rest.

Chatura had been chewing quietly on her lip the entire time they were moving. Her few wounds were sore, but the muscles loosened up the more they walked and she was feeling only the faintest pullings from the cuts. But Cloud..his hoofsteps were getting more laboured the further they went and she could smell fresh blood; his cuts had obviously opened up again. She bit hard on her lip, tasting her own blood and looked at him with concern etched across her face.
'It is..' she looked around after hurrying right to his side when he had paused against the thick and oddly grown tree trunk. A flash of something caught her eye as she looked over his shoulder and she stared.
'A cave..Cloud, I know it's alot to ask, but can you move just a bit more? Then you can collapse, I promise.' she looked into his eyes, pleading with him for just a little more energy, enough to get him inside.
She moved so that her warm flank touched his. 'Here, lean on me if you need to.' she murmured, not able to look at him, and glad for that as her face had gone hot at being this close.
