But you don't want to be formal in an informal situation. It can sometimes be considered rude, or you can come off as making fun of someone if it's serious =o

It's not commonly used, but it's not unheard of either. I can be very indecisive at critical moments sometimes xD
And about the formality, it may be respectful to some, but to your friends it isn't. Formal tones are what you would use for superiors or people you don't know. If you talk formally to a friend, "Good day to you, Mr. Montgomery. Ah yes, it has been such a pleasant morning and I daresay that...." blah blah blah.
I'm just Rob or "Anju" to people online. Or Krono if that's what they want to call me. It would bother me if someone though they needed to keep being respectful around me when I am clearly a friend who doesn't need to be talked to in such a manner.
I'm not a nobleman, I'm not upperclass, I don't want to be talked to formally.
Although things like "Bonjour" and "Gute Tag" and others similar to it are perfectly okay, in all reality.
@Supi: Yeah, they would probably hurt x3

Depends on the person. I don't mind it as a joke and such, but if you're always seriously formal, then it'd be bad after a while >.<

Well, my friend is seriously formal. I don't really know why, but they did once say: Quote: Speaking used to be an art, now it is necessity. surprised

I'm just saying, geeze.
It's fine to be respectful, but if we're friends and you INSIST on calling me "Mr. Montgomery" or "Mr. Robert" or "Sir" or whatever it is, I'd have a problem. Speaking in a very fluid manner is nice, but "utilizing a vast vocabulary to further enhance the meaning behind your words" will get either pretty stupid after a while, or get really old because depending on your word choice it can come off as you trying to sound superior to another individual.
