If she could have moved her legs, she might have run out of sheer terror. Her mind became a veritable ocean of thoughts, and she tried to navigate them best as she could. Kaok had to stop herself saying something about how you can't respond to a 'wilt thou' with 'I do', after all. She didn't say a thing for a good few seconds before she gave herself a mental slap to the face and snapped out of it.
"Yes."

"Yes" wasn't exactly the formal answer, but it worked. The chaplain continued with the ceremony.
"The rings, please."

Emma stepped forward, opening her hand to reveal two simple gold bands, so like the one she already wore. She was grinning at Kaok. The Faun hadn't fled, she was relieved.
See? You're fine.

The chaplain took the first wedding band and gave it to Remus. The Imperator took Kaok's left hand in his and looked at the chaplain, who nodded.
"I, Remus Fletcher take you, Kaok Jayim to be my wife and Empress from this day forward. I promise to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, during times of war and political strife. From this moment forward, I am yours."
Upon making his vow, Remus placed the wedding band on Kaok's ring finger.

I suppose. Just... wait a second before you jinx it.
"I, Kaok Jayim take you, Remus Fletcher to be my wedded husband from this day forward. I promise to be your partner in sickness and in health - in a metal body or a flesh one, as you so choose for yourself. And hereto I pledge you my faithfulness... I am also yours."
And she placed the second band on his finger.

Emma tried to hide her joy as she saw the exchange go off without a hitch, building up energy for the spell she had planned. Only a mage's eye would see the faint corona of violet surrounding her, so much stronger with the addition of the child within her.
From his place in the seats, Hrothbert added his own energies to the spell; not for need of extra power, but for the sake of ceremony.

"Very well. Because Remus and Kaok have desired each other in marriage, and have witnessed this before Jupiter and our gathering, affirming their acceptance of the responsibilities of such a union, and have pledged their love and faith to each other, sealing their vows in the giving and receiving of rings, I do proclaim that they are husband and wife in the sight of Jupiter and the Galactic Roman Empire. Let all people here and everywhere recognize and respect this holy union, now and forever."
The chaplain paused for a moment.
"You may kiss the bride."

I survived, Emma... I didn't faint or anything.
Kaok smiled wide - in a way she'd never really done in her life. This was quite possibly the most amazing moment she'd ever experienced.

Remus gently wrapped his arms around Kaok's waist and drew her close. He studied her face for a second before leaning in and touching her lips to his. He Though he had kissed her before, this one felt different. One of a kind. The kiss that sealed the deal. He hadn't felt one like it and probably never would again.

I suppose I'm waiting until afterward for reality to sink in? Or at least for surreality to go away. She was married, something that she'd never wanted before or even thought possible for herself. And she was happy, and that was just strange in and of itself - her legs shook a moment during the kiss, but it really was the best feeling she'd ever felt before in her life.

The nobles set the last part of the spell in place, letting the magic run its course. Timed perfectly with the touch of Remus' lips to Kaok's, gold and silver fireworks burst into light high above the couple's heads, bringing even more brightness to the already bright day. The remnants of the fiery blooms rained down around the two, twinkling as they settled in the bride's hair and on the groom's laurels, looking for all the world like tiny stars.

After awhile, Remus pulled back as the guests in the pews clapped and cheered. The Imperator smiled and a small shy blush could be seen in his cheeks.

James intermittently made a bleat-like noise as he cheered, still quite amused at the goat thing and not having moved on. But he was quite glad for his dear friend, and hoped that one day he and Chris would have a ceremony this touching. Of course, there was that emotional baggage he needed to get rid of. His first attempt at this whole thing had been... scarring.
As she looked at Remus, she heard James among the crowd, ears twitching like mad. She didn't make eye-contact with the elf or even seem to be angry at the moment (her smile wouldn't go away), but someone was going to get a punch to the face after the euphoria wore off.
