Velos slept really well and an hour later he started to reluctantly wake up. He was warm and comfortable and was having a great dream about his mom. The soft hand and the gentle voice didn't help him stay asleep. He shifted as he woke up.

"Mama?" he said only half awake. He sat up and rubbed his eyes. He blinked sleepily and looked around. His heart sank a little when he saw he wasn't with his mom. He saw Chael instead with food. His favorites. He smiled and woke up a little more.

Needless to say he looked adorable with his sleep mused hair and a childish happy grin on his face. He started to eat with surprising care for a dragon child and then blinked and stopped. He looked up at Chael again.

"Thank you for getting me food Chael," he said politely. Then he went back to eating. When he was finished he wiped his mouth and hands off with a napkin. Then he moved the platter aside and slipped out of the bed.

He said the same spell backwards and soon enough was his normal size. He gave the Dragon's tear back to Chael. Then he said a quick spell that would block the human boy's magic abilities for a few hours and picked him up.

Then he walked to the door carrying him bridal style. "Time to go my bride," he said smirking. He opened the door and left the room, issuing orders as he left. "Pack his belongings and bring them to me out side. Also bring a blanket," he said as he left with Chael.

Soon they were out side and Velos turned into his dragon form. He knelt down so Chael could climb onto his back and sit in the space between his shoulder blades. The scales there were softer and once a blanket was put there Chael would be relatively comfortable sitting there.

"Get on my back or I will carry you back in my claws," he said.

Cailean sighed as he was scooped up into the man’s powerful arms effortlessly. He had known the man would grow up and take him away sooner or later, but he still felt slightly irritated. However, he accepted his fate obediently and pressed his head against the Dragon’s chest as he listened to the man shout orders to the servants. He didn’t want… to be this man’s bride. All he wanted was to be happy and left alone. Was that too much to ask?

Sighing softly, the boy climbed onto the Dragon’s back like he was told. It was actually quite comfortable. “I suppose there is no way I could convince you to take another.” he whispered smoothly, bringing a small hand over one of those smooth, glistening scales. It wasn’t fair. He didn’t want this. Silently, he vowed to run away from the male the moment he got the chance.

As they neared the Dragon’s domain a sick feeling settled in his stomach. No. he head not expected this. Why was fate so cruel? As they neared the tallest mountain, his eyes saddened. Massive caves dotted the rocky surface-- hollowed out for the use of the dragon citizens. Each room and hall was large enough for the creatures to move through in either form-- human or dragon. This was his new home. Soaring around the many entrances, the creatures could be seen rough-housing, chatting, or engaging in a race.

The anxiety increased with each beat of Velos' mighty wings. His stomach fluttered and his face paled as they neared the horrifying structure. He did not fear the giant beasts that gazed after him. No. His fear of dragons was infinitesimal compared to the angst caused by his newest realization. There was no escape. They were hundreds of feet above land. Crooked stone crags surrounded the base of the mountain. The drop was steep and the stone seemed to have a thin sheen of ice coating it.

No escape.

He was eerily silent as they landed. His face had gone white. He would simply need to kill himself then. It was the only solution.

Bag brought to him and Chael on his back he got ready to take off. He looked back at Chael when the boy spoke softly and only shook his great head in reply. With a leap and a few mighty thrusts of his wings they were airborne and flying back to his home. Velos's worries seemed to disappear and he let out a roar of pleasure as he felt the wind against him. He flew swiftly, wanting to get home before dark. He smiled once he saw his home and his people.

They landed about two hours after leaving Chael's home. With a thud that echoed through the passages around them, Velos touched down in front of one of the entrances to the caves. His private chambers. Perhaps not so private as a group of children ran out laughing and playing in their human forms.

Velos smirked, his little cousins. He looked over his shoulder at Chael and knelt again. He gazed at the boy and felt a bit worried about him. He had never seen a human's face look so white or heard a human be so silent....except when they were dead. Velos had seen a few dead humans before or rather what was left of them. A dragon's temper was a vicious thing. Chael was alive though so why did he already look like he was in death's care? The dragon prince pushed the grim thoughts aside.

"Get down," he said to the boy. Once the human had slipped off his back and was on the ground he returned to his dragon form. He picked up Chael's bag of belongings in one hand and took one of the boy's hands in his other. Then he turned to the little children before him.

There were five total ranging from age five to age eight or nine. "Leave us now hatchlings," he said and then he walked by the kids. The little ones scurried off obediently and resumed their game.

Velos then led Chael into his bedroom. He was pleased to see that his bed had already been exchanged for a bigger one so he and his mate could sleep together. Warmer, more covering robes were already laid out for the human on the bed. They were a pale blue color and were a similar style to his own.

He guided the boy to the bed and sat him down on it, placing his bag of belongings beside him. "You look like a living corpse," he said bluntly. "Get changed, we will be married shortly," he said. He then went to his wardrobe and picked out the robe he would be wearing to their wedding. It was royal purple and was the same style as Chael's. The royal family had been planning Velos's wedding for a long time, even he didn't know how long.

He undressed and got changed quickly, his strong, muscular body briefly exposed. He kept his back to Chael as he changed. He wasn't to look upon his bride's naked body until after they were wed.

Upon entering the Prince’s quarters, he found that it was perhaps the largest bedroom he had ever stepped foot in. The ceiling was engraved with masterful artwork, depicting knights and dragons-- legends and religion. Gilded tapestries and gem-encrusted artifacts covered the walls-- all made thousands of years ago and dyed in unicorn blood or something equally preserving.

He saw a pendant very much like the one he wore, but thought nothing of it at the time, brushing it off as a coincidence in his hesitant wonder. The stone was blood red. Little did he know… it was the royal pendant.

It was the window that captured his attention. The small gateway to freedom displayed a view of nearby mountaintops and trees. It was his last resort, he decided. When he finally found himself alone and out of from under Velos’ watchful eye, he would commit suicide. He would leap out that window. For some reason, the thought of jumping into the open air hardly bothered him.

Death didn’t feel so imminent if he jumped. It was a silly truth, but in his mind he didn’t see himself falling if he made the jump. He saw himself soaring.

With shaky hands, the blonde ignored his soon-to-be-husband’s comment and slipped into the blue, clingy material. He knew he was white as a ghost. He felt sick to his stomach and the pendent burned against his chest. Cheeks flushing bright pink, the boy took a seat on the edge of the bed and sighed shakily, struggling to compose himself. He didn’t want this. He didn’t want to be married of to this man he hardly knew-- this creature whose kind he had watched tear his mother limb from limb.

Tears appeared in those large blue eyes and he quickly looked away from Velos, not wanting the male to see him succumbing to the severe stress of the situation. “W-will I have any time to myself… before the ceremony,” he whispered in a wavering tone, pulling his knees to his chest.

Velos could hear the boy as he dressed and was happy his bride was getting ready. When he heard the boy's question he turned around hoping he was dressed. Chael was. He gasped softly when he saw him in the robe. He looked........beautiful. Then he took a closer look at the boy and saw him looking way. Velos could smell tears.

The left the dragon prince at a loss for what to do. Chael was a human and he was crying because he was marrying him, Velos, a dragon. Any other human would be glad to be in Chael's place. Velos had never been taught how to comfort people. The result of this situation? An awkward Velos.

Sighing he walked over to the bed and sat down beside it about a foot from him. He ran a hand through his blond hair as he struggled to find something to say to comfort the human boy, but nothing came to him.

"Yes, I will give you some time to compose your self," he said. He was going to leave the boy alone for a bit like he had requested. Why? Good mating pairs had at least some trust between them. He would trust the boy to be by himself for a little while. "Five minutes. Then we go to the ceremony," he said. With that he got up and left his room. He waited by the window in his study which was nearby.

He might as well compose himself. After this he would have a mate. That meant courting him and breeding him. Since Chael was a boy he knew that he wouldn't have children. In rare cases a male dragon could bear a child. That was how Velos had been born. A human male however had no chance of bearing an heir for him. Velos wouldn't be able to go on as he had been, namely being lazy. His father would expect him to take on some more of his duties. In a way, taking a mate was a right of passage. He sighed as he looked out of the window at the trees and mountains. It was a right of passage he hadn't wanted to go through.

The young boy spent a few moments in silence, composing himself. The longer he sat, the more anxious he felt. He wanted to take the leap-- he NEEDED to take the leap. He finally had that simple chance at death now that Velos had wandered into his study.

Chael sighed and walked over to the window that was not in the study. How easy would it be… to jump. How easy would it be to end all of this madness. He opened the curtains and smirked faintly. He knew that, in a way, he and Velos were destined to fail anyway. He would always hate the man. Dragons had killed his mother and sister. In his heart, these two things were unforgivable. This is how he knew they would never get along. He would always hate dragons. Somehow, just jumping out seemed like an appealing idea. No one could stop him. He had nothing here to live for.

He could escape.

Without hesitation, he leapt through the stone window and into the open air. His stomach dropped. The feeling of everything going light and air exploding in his chest seemed to hit him like a smack in the face. He was falling. Falling. FALLING!

And suddenly, he wasn’t. He waved his arms and he was hovering--rising. As he screamed, a loud roar reached his ears and, in a panic, he looked around to see where it had come from. It was at that moment, that he realized the noise had left his own lips. They say flying is supposed to be exhilarating-- graceful. Well, Chael had no idea what the hell he was doing. One moment he was flying up towards the sun-- the next he was diving towards the ground. It was only after a few seconds that he got the hang of it, managing to land on a nearby mountain.

“What… the hell.” he whispered to himself, looking down to see white, clawed feet. He was…big. Well, in truth he was a rather small male dragon-- about the size of a female. But he was certainly beautiful. A tail swished behind him. The pendant around his neck seemed to have grown with his transformation, glowing serenely against his white alabaster chest. “Oh my God. I’m in hell,” he whispered to himself, going wide-eyed.

Dragons were already rushing out of the caves, shocked to hear a melodic, unknown roar. There was something sweet in the submissive’s voice. Many of the males were prepared to leap after him and take claim. All they needed was royal permission to nab this new, startling white dragons. The alabaster scales were so incredibly rare-- known to belong to only two dragons ever at the same time.

Velos started when he heard the foreign roar reached his ears. His eyes snapped to an ALABASTER DRAGON which was flying like a hatchling during its first flight. His eyes followed to where the beautiful creature landed. His first thought was to make sure his mate was alright. So he rushed back to where he had left the distraught Chael. He blinked when he found the room....empty. He took in the whole room, searching it. He only found an open window.

He jumped out the window and changed mid drop. He flew over the eager male dragons roaring a warning to stay back. He blew fire at them to make it clear he meant it. Wheeling he turned and flew to the new dragon as the other males backed off grumbling. He landed close by the white male on its mountain and cautiously approached him. He smelled the air as he went and he stopped his his tracks, eyes widening when he caught the small male's scent.

It was....Chael's scent. He had thought the new dragon had TAKEN his mate. It wasn't possible that the alabaster creature WAS his mate. Yet, the scent was unmistakable.

"Chael? Is that you?" he asked bewildered. He finally reached the male dragon and smelled him closely. "It is you! How?-" he said. He shook his head. "Never mind we will figure this out later. For now we have to get you inside. You're giving off such a strong breeding scent no royal's word will keep the other males away once they smell it," he said. Velos was already becoming dizzy with the heady scent of a male who could bear children. The pendent around his neck pulsed and grew hotter. He rubbed his head against Chael to mark him with his scent. It should give the boy some protection.... he hoped. Also he sure as hell wasn't going to let ANYBODY touch his mate whether he was a human or a dragon.

Chael was in an obvious state of panic. His eyes were wide and fearful. When Velos landed near him, he jumped a few feet away. He was trembling from head to toe. He didn’t know what was happening. “W-what’s wrong with me. What happened,” he whispered shakily, tears streaming down his alabaster cheeks and solidifying into giant crystals. When the male spoke to him in a low, gentle tone, he relaxed slightly-- wings folded tightly against his body in fear.

Chael obediently allowed the male to mark him with his scent, eyes softening a bit at the proximity of a bigger stronger male who could protect him. He purred slightly, nuzzling the other’s neck in submission. He wasn’t sure why he was behaving this way. It was all instinct. The pendent on his neck was warm and he blinked down at it. “My necklace… is heating up again,” he whispered softly, blinking when he noticed a few males spreading their wings.

He followed Velos back to his cave, staying close to the male as they flew. The moment they were safe in the other’s room he focused all his energy on changing back-- surprised when he slipped into his human form. Cheeks tinted pink, the boy made a quick grab for the fallen silk robes and tugged them back onto his pretty body. “So much for committing suicide,” he mumbled to himself.

By instinct Velos soothed and protected his mate the whole way back to his cave. Back in the cave Velos left him to change back while he took care of the males that had followed them. He blocked the entrance to his caves with his body and growled at the males that were surrounding him. Roaring and sounds of fighting could be heard all the way back to Velos's room where Chael was. It was about twenty minutes later that the prince walked back into his room sporting cuts across his face and chest. His left wing had also been damaged in the fight though not so severely that he couldn't use it. Though each wound was freely bleeding, the dragons that hadn't gotten the message looked far worse.

He changed into his human form and laid down on the bed. He looked at Chael intently, wondering how the hell this was possible. He sighed and sat up, propping himself up on the pillows.

"Chael I don't suppose you knew you were a dragon did you?" he asked. Velos couldn't smell the scent mark he had put of Chael. The boy's scent was overpowering it. He pulled his pulsing, hot pendant from his robes and looked at it. Why was it reacting like this to Chael? With a sigh he let it fall back against his chest and looked that the boy.

"Come here. I have to mark you with more of my scent, your breeding scent has already overpowered the scent mark I put on you outside," he said. Wait till he told his father the human he had brought home was a dragon with alabaster scales. He wouldn't believe it.

Chael blinked in shock when he saw his fiancé’s scarred body. Without a word, he quickly went to their jointed bathroom, grabbed a cloth, and soaked it in a bucket of cool clean water. He sighed heavily as he returned, pressing the rag over the male’s bleeding wounds.

“I… did not know.” he whispered a bit shakily, looking up into Velos’ eyes. “They’re quite aggressive, aren’t they. Why so much fuss over me?” He whispered a few enchantments to help heal the man’s wounds, closing each one with a gentle kiss.

There was something about the male that was drawing him in-- his scent was powerful and domineering. It made the boy want to submit. He sighed and laid next to the male, allowing Velos to do as he wished. Instinct told him that it was safer to have his fiancé’s scent on him until they were officially mates.

Chael's ministrations surprised him, but he didn't stop him and let the smaller male treat him. He met the boy's eyes and a single eyebrow arched. His mate didn't know he was a dragon and he had jumped out his window.

"Why did you jump out my window when you didn't know you could grow wings?" he said in a dangerous hiss.

Healed now thanks to Chael's spells, he wrapped his arms around the boy once he had laid down beside him. Velos pulled the smaller boy against his body and nuzzled his neck.

"Any male dragon would become aggressive after smelling such an enticing scent," he said huskily. He kissed his mate's face and neck. Instinct told him to court him, protect him, make him his.

"Alabaster dragons are incredibly rare and are the most beautiful of our kind. That combined with your scent and the fact you don't have the scent of a mate on you excited everyone. You're choice mate," he said. He was trying to explain the instincts of a male when presented with such a rare beauty, but he didn't think he was doing a very good job of it.

Chael's scent was starting to get to his head, it was only thanks to his training that he wasn't making the little virgin his. However Velos's scent was now noticeably on him and as long as he refreshed the scent and was nearby the little male should be fine. He couldn't wait until they were wed.

“I was trying to kill myself,” the boy stated bluntly, tone calm and unwavering. “That’s why I jumped out the window. But I suppose it’s like trying to drown yourself. Instinct changed me and wouldn’t let me do it.” He blinked and flushed at all the kisses , tilting his head to the side and presenting his long, creamy neck to the male. He was beginning to pant now. He could feel Velos’ heat overpowering him, making his thighs part for the male unconsciously in such an embarrassing way.

However, the talk of suicide he assumed would be enough to anger the male to the point where this stifling heat dissipated a bit. He licked Velos’ jaw line submissively in order to keep him calm enough that he didn’t become violently enraged by the truth. “I was… very, very upset. And I just… every part of me was telling me to do it. It seemed like the right answer-- the only escape.”

What he needed to know now was who his father was. He must have been a b*****d child the whole time. A half-breed, he had read, was hardly discriminated against by dragons. This was mostly because the dragon blood always overpowered the blood of the creature it had mated with. A half dragon was practically a full dragon in every way, except that they aged as a normal human until they reached ‘adulthood’ where they came into their dragon inheritance.

As Velos was kissing the smooth skin of Chael's neck he froze. Chael had been trying to kill himself? He growled low in his throat and got on top of the smaller male. He held himself above Chael so that he wasn't touching him and looked down at the little dragon who was obviously going into heat because of his scent, panting and parting his thighs for him. It was difficult not to take the boy. Though he ignored that part of himself and tried to control his anger. His lovely mate. If Chael wasn't a dragon he would be dead by now. Growling he nipped the boy's ear and then his neck.

The lick to his jawline calmed him a little and he got off the boy. Velos closed the boy's temptingly spread legs and sat up beside him.

"I have never met some one who hated dragons so much before. If you had succeeded in killing yourself what do you think would have happened? Did you stop to think of the ones you would leave behind? One of the most important things to a dragon is their family. If you had died how do you think your family would feel? It's sickening to think you would hurt them like that," he said sounding disgusted and disappointed.

He had been raised differently than other hatchlings, but he had seen the grief of parents who had lost one of their young. Despite the short temper of dragons and all of the fighting that they did, children were important. Velos had often wondered if his father would be so grief stricken if he had died. He shook his head to clear these dark thoughts away.

"At any rate you're still alive and it is time for us to be married. Come," he said. He got off the bed and held his hand out to Chael. The sooner they were mates the better.

Chael was still hot and bothered. A flush had founded its way to his smooth cheeks and he couldn’t seem to regulate his breathing. However, the male’s words help snap him out of his foggy state and a low growl escaped his lips-- dangerous and almost furious by the male’s disgust and judgment towards his actions. Without a word, he got up on his own, rejecting the Prince’s hand with burning eyes.

“You know NOTHING about me, your highness, so please refrain from tossing my sorry excuse of a family into the picture. I can tell you for certain that my death would be of little concern to all but two people-- Prince Verdund and a dear friend who merely visits once or twice a year. Neither of which have any relation to my conceited fat-a** of an uncle or my brown-nosing father. You know nothing of their ‘care’ for me or how ‘sad’ they would be if I passed on. In fact, the only members of my family who ever cared about me, a noble’s b*****d son, were my mother and sister. Both of which, consequently, were murdered by dragons. I’m sorry if I’m not exactly jumping for joy at the notion of being your bride,” Chael spat.

The words were spoken in a velvety hiss and his eyes had narrowed into slits. All signs of his heat were gone-- replaced by rage and offense. He moved away from the male. He wanted out. He wanted air. All he wanted was to get away. “I have said it once and I shall say it again, I REJECT your goddamn hand. I reject this stupid marriage!” He wasn’t sure where this rage and stress was coming from. It was not unusual for a trapped and over-stressed submissive to lash out when it felt confined in a situation, especially one in heat.

Tears spilled from his cheeks and the necklace was burning against his skin. “Nnn…” he whimpered, covering his face to hide the shameful tears.

Velos bit back a snarl at the little male's rejection. Though he couldn't help, but note that he was coming into his dragon half well and quickly. Chael's scent and his own hormones were making it hard to think and his blazing hot pendant was making things any easier. He had a stressed submissive in heat on his hands that he had to deal with. He knew two ways he could calm his mate, marrying him and breeding him or trying to sooth him. The latter was the more difficult at the moment since he was angry as well. The former would be easier if he could just get the little male there. He was going to have to sooth Chael. When we're married I am teaching him out ways, there are things he needs to learn like flying in a straight line.

He smelled tears again and once again instinct took over. He walked over to his little bride and wrapped his arms around him, pulling him into a gentle hug. He forced his own anger and frustration away and purred soothingly.

"I'm sorry Chael I shouldn't have been so judgmental. I know it doesn't mean much coming from one of the beings you hate so much, but I am sorry for your loss. Shhhhh," he said softly. His voice was soothing and calm. Velos gently rubbed Chael's back to help calm the boy down.

"Listen Chael, I am going to tell you something you might not want to hear, but you need to know. The state you are in right now is heat. Only royals marry their mates before breeding with them and only breed with their mate's consent. Since you are a dragon I cannot force you to marry me, but that leaves you open to every other male dragon on the mountain since they are not bound to that law. They will breed you with or with out your consent," he said gently, but firmly.
