Akira wasn't used to be hugged after Rouka died but he really needed one after having a sad topic conversation with kazuki-sensei which made both cried. So he put the cake on a near-by table and hugged her back he though 'wow shes quite small ^^ she is a junior afterall' since Akira is tall has a good body-build that actually makes him look like a senior.
