Not paying much attention to Morgan's work up front, Saw kept his eyes peeled...ignoring the way his arms had started to shake. A wicked burning crept up alongside his neck, jabbing from shoulder to skull. He'd pulled something trying to right the Jeep, and his head was spinning from sudden dizziness.

Rocking dangerously as Josh yanked the transport to the right, Sasha grabbed blindly at Morgan's shoulder...trying to keep her in place rather than steady himself. The crowd was getting thicker, the sickening smack of extended limbs against metal echoed occasionally from the front.

Turning just as a body fell forward, hand clasping the scratched metal to the rear of the Jeep, Sasha watched for a moment in frozen repulsion. The corpse of an old man, covered in sores and gashes...bouncing and skimming along the road as his feet were swept out from underhim. Pausing for just a moment longer, Sasha spit to one side and brought his shovel down.

Only a few fingers remained, curled around the metal, as the body bounced and rolled in the distance.

Sasha twisted to gaze forward once more...eyes narrowed against the wind. The streets weren't crowded, but they certainly weren't empty...they should be getting closer. Hopefully, getting closer. Sasha wasn't sure how much longer he could go without some rest. It had been a long few days.

"Clear. How far?" His accent rumbled, thick and deep as he braced to bring his shovel up once again.

Josh grimmaced, hissed, and cussed as Morgan cleaned his shoulder, bandaging it, all the while trying to keep his mind focused forward on the road, avoiding what he could. He gave a distracted "Thanks" when she'd finished but it wasn't until Sasha finally spoke that he snapped out of the trance-like state of concentraition.

"Huh? Oh. Not far, we're outta the town now, the Church is further back. s**t, what's left of the supplies? The ammunition? The weapons? ******** the food and water, the grocery on wheels is heading to them soon, but they needed the other things last we heard. S'why I was sent out."

He really wasn't supposed to tell them this, it wasn't like he was going to get in trouble for it, but it wasn't necissary information for civilians. He just talked a lot sometimes when he was stressed.

It's why Sasha and he got along so well, partly.

The jeep raced down the narrowing streets.

Morgan ceased keeping watch and plopped down into the seat, cradling the injured water container. It seemed the worst was over...for now. Now, with nothing to keep her mind on, the thoughts that she had held at bay came flooding back.

She wondered what kind of situation awaited them at the safe house...wondered how fast this infestation was spreading and what the government was planning beyond quarantine. Yet, more than anything, she wondered how the hell her large Russian companion was able to pull that feat back there.

Not only had Sasha managed leaping from the moving jeep with minimal injury, but he also put the vehicle upright again so soon after being thrown. Sure Josh had made a difference...that was clear, but it was the muscular punk that started the thing tilting.

Morgan tried to catch Sasha's glance to get his attention. "Hey, you alright?" she inquired once she had gotten his attention.

She settled back into her seat again. "You two were really amazing back there. I really didn't mean to cause you all this trouble...but I wanted to thank you for everything you've done." She wanted to say more, but she knew she'd never be able to thank them enough.

Still standing, Sasha swayed as the Jeep bounced and squeaked...knuckles white around the handle of the shovel. He didn't watch Morgan as she spoke, eyes on the road. A thin smile spread, though, and he raised his chin in a single nod. His stomach hurt worse than his muscles, but it wasn't that bad. It had been a while since he'd eaten, stress and ill timing had seen to that.

"Okay, yah. You, Morrigan? Better than heem?" Meeting her eyes for just a moment, Saw grinned...flicking his gaze to Josh. His friend could use a smile, even if it was at his own expense.

For the most part, he was simply glad that the other two were focused enough to function...driving, navigation, medical aide, and gratitude. Given the last thirty minutes, lessers would have crumbled. His own knees locked, rather than collapse under him.

No time for reflection. Eyes lifting once more, Saw brushed his gaze across the horizon...searching for signs of their destination. It had been rough, but they were still rolling.

At the moment, it seemed like the only thing that mattered.

"Ha." Josh replied drying at Sasha's little comment.

As time was wearing on the adrenaline was leaving, everything was going back to it's usual pace. Few of the undead were on the street, what there was Josh could simply avoid with a smooth curve.

And it was giving him too much time to think.

As his body cleared itself of the hormone slowly his body began to shake. Little by little his left hand began to slip further down along the wheel, moving stiffly as he changed gears and a ring of sweat gradually slicked his collar.

He knew they didn't have any pain relievers in the jeep, even if they did he wouldn't be able to take any. Not for him to tamper with, this was his cargo. There was one thing only that he took so seriously and with such pride - his job. He, a rookie, a recruit, still very green had been placed on the STV squad. Sure, it was probably because they had an extreme lack of people willing to take the job, not to mention the fact that Josh himself had started out as a-

No.

He shook his head, hair sticking slightly to his face.

They should be almost there. Almost there. He was tired and he was hurt and in the very back recesses of his mind he blamed Morgan and Sasha both for how long it'd taken him to get here. He'd picked them both up.

Damn his bleeding heart.

Oh well, he was a hero.

His arm was feeling a little numb, had he dislocated something? Nah, he wouldn't be able to move his arm. Then a strained, sprained, or bruised muscle or bone.

"God damn, they're strong. And persistent. What'dyou think it is... they can't think, can they? I heard a coupla one's have been learning s**t."

Trying to talk to keep his mind off of... everything.

Morgan took in the scene, it seemed like the zombies were less concentrated out here. She kept her eye on the horizon, hoping for a glance at the safe house.

She snapped out of her thoughts long enough to reply to Josh's observation. "I think that's part of it...why they're so strong that is. They don't seem to think about anything other than us. They don't care if they get hurt , and that makes them stronger."

Since not much was going on she continued to keep from getting too tired. "You know, there were zombies before this incident...from the practice of Voodoo...No really. Laugh if you like, but it's true. Voodoo doctors would use a powerful drug to make a person from town appear dead. After the funeral had been performed, the bokor (or witch doctor) would dig up the 'dead' and keep them in a drugged state with a different concoction. Sometimes they'd wander back into town staggering and unable to speak properly under the influence of the Voodoo medicine. Those were 'real' zombies...but the things out there now, they're all wrong."

After she'd said that much, she stopped herself from ranting further. Her 'geek' was showing. She looked up once more hopefully just in time to see a glimpse of a church in the distance.

Listening to the pair as he hefted his shovel, brows knitting slowly, Sasha turned away. Josh was doing his work for him, deftly avoiding the stragglers that remained. For a moment, Saw's pale gaze settled on a woman...armless and staggering and growing smaller in the distance.

"They think. They are us." He watched her a moment longer before turning his eyes ahead. "They are seemply...damned."

His heart clenched, images of Nadya's sleeping face playing within him. With any luck, she was at peace...unlike the others. He had to hope.

Focusing on the looming structure ahead, Sasha motioned with his chin towards it. A useless gesture, since all eyes were forward, and one he wished he hadn't made as a bolt of pain lanced from his neck to shoulders.

"Is that eet?" Hands gripped once again, the wood pressing hard against his palms. Even if they had arrived...was there anyone to greet them?

((OOC: Good news guys, looks like the safehouse is open. Can't wait to pick this back up. I'll be working/at school till about 6:00 tonight. No rush, but if we can make a time to pick it back up again, I'm all for it. ^^))
