"But technically I'm off the hook for the party, though I think I'm gonna go anyway." He shrugged, "I don't really know anyone around here, and you gotta smooze to get promoted. Especially in a company like this connections get you everywhere."
"Besides," He put on a goofy grin, "I want to know who would cast antilegalisponsibilization on me, or would put a globalconectinet-hippopotamus head in my bed if I pissed them off."
The crazy words were acompanied by equaly sill hand gestures. They'll be here all week.

Elysia cracked a smile and even laughed, looking down and away as she tried to stop. It really wasn't all that funny... unless you'd been trying to understand that exact sort of language all morning.
"Mm, looks like I know who I'll let myself get drunk around," she muttered. "Maybe the night won't be so unpleasant. When is that party, anyway? Soon? I'm apparently rather important around here, but I don't seem to get my memos on time.
"Or maybe I'm supposed to... you know... check. My email, my mailbox - do I have a mailbox? - and stuff like that. Huh. Might work."

"I think mail gets delivered to offices or cubicles, and e-mail to e-offices and e-cubicles." He got a laugh so he wasn't even gonna bother being serious, "Though there's probably a dozen and one in house newsletters between the different departments."
"Besides, from what I heard the people who prep the convention floor couldn't get in, cause of the two lock downs. I predict that those newsletters are now inaccurate cause of el delays."
"But yeah, I hear this company has good eggnog. We'll have to try some." He once again realised what he said after he said it, "If you're up to it."

"I might be. It will have to be better than the cheap, nasty stuff they had at my last "holiday party." That... wasn't fun."
Then she blinked, and peered at him. What he had said... sounded oddly like he was asking her out.
Buuuuut that probably wasn't true - it was just the awkwardness. Besides. Nobody asked her out. And this was fine and just the way she liked it.
"To be honest," Elysia commented, moving to a different subject, "I'm not even sure why I'm in the department I'm in. I sort of just... got stuck there. I wonder if I have any work I'm supposed to be doing for my official job." She probably wasn't supposed to mention why she'd really been hired, but Jeff here would probably figure it out eventually.

"But yeah, I guess I'll see you there." He made a motion with his head towards his desk, "If I ever finish translating that. I could be here for quite a bit longer."
He jokingly pulled at his collar.
"So I best be getting back to it, unless you can do it at the party." He grinned as he pushed his chair towards the desk, spinning a bit as he did.
"Betcha the eggnog would help."

"Probably. And I wondered at one point why Joseph had such a well-stocked minibar in his office..." Winking, she got down off of his desk and headed for the door.
"Wish me luck, as well! I just hope I don't get burdened with the lobby issues, too..."
And with that, she was out the door again, headed for the fun of paperwork once more.
