"Well," Xelloss purred slowly. "We both drive each other a little mad and we're both very confident in our own abilities." He gave his wings a small flap and dead leaves kicked up around him in the sudden rush of air. He wanted her to agree. He wanted her to agree and free him from the restraints of the favor he owed her.
"So why don't we say that if you can outrun me for some period of time..." He gestured offhandedly with one of his wings to indicate that the exact period of time didn't matter to him. "Then you win. If, however, I can catch you from aloft, I win."
He smirked then, eyes opened to slits and fangs glittering. "Whoever wins gets to do whatever they like to the loser. No complaints. No mercy." He watched her with predatory anticipation. "So, Deneb, exactly how confident are you in those legs of yours?"

Deneb watched him closely as he flexed his wings and determined the stipulation of the wager. She pranced ready to run. "Very." she managed, before without another word or even waiting for him to say anything further before wheeling and galloping off into the undergrowth.
She was oblivious to the low hanging branches and briars that tried to catch at her. She just ran, making sure to stay under the trees and stay away from the open areas that would make it easier for the stallion to catch her.
She finally came to a stop some time later and leaned against a tree panting. She looked around quickly to make sure that she was covered and the canopy was sufficient to stop the Kalona from diving through it. Idly she wondered what Xelloss would do to her if he caught her. Nothing pleasant she was sure and more than likely would end in death. But the question was what did she want...and deep down she already knew the answer to that and she was ashamed of herself, but not completely she had to admit. She then shook her head before darting off again into the forest, not sure if she wanted to win or lose.

With a delighted cackle, Xelloss watched her tear away. This would be so much fun! With a few flaps of his powerful wings he was aloft and soaring after her. He loved a good chase. He got to have so few true chases after soquili prey. It would be what came after the chase that would be the real treat, however...
Though the foliage kept him from catching her every move there were enough gaps for him to be able to track her. She was fast, she hadn't lied about that.... but he was fast too.
He continued to track her and watch her. He tried to keep himself between Deneb and the sun. Would she look up and see him? She won't until too late...
She would be passing under an open area in the canopy soon. It was time for some fun. Xelloss tucked his wings in close and dived.

Deneb ran until she was pretty sure she was going to pass out from exhaustion. She stumbled a few more steps and then looked up and around. This wasn't a good place for her to be stopped, but she had too. She hesitantly took a few steps towards a stream and managed a few grateful mouthfuls before startling at birds taking off through the canopy. She stood stock still ears swinging wildly trying to hear anything else around her.
When all that greeted her was silence she darted back under the trees again. It would be dark soon...and that worked in her advantage as much as his. Made her wish for a moment that he was light colored and would shop up against the darkness of the sky. She moved over to a low growing shrub and grabbed a few bites before trotting off again, this time slower and more cautiously. In the growing darkness it wouldn't do her much good if she stumbled and broke her leg.

The wind whistled in Xelloss' ears as he dived downwards towards the kirin mare. His mane whipped out behind him and he resisted the urge to cackle with fiendish delight. That had to wait until the last moment. The mare was only trotting now, and he aimed himself straight for her twilight-enclosed form. Even in the low light her scales glittered prettily.
Lower and lower he dipped. A soquili less confident in their flying abilities might be worried that they'd crash into the ground, but not Xelloss. He waited until the last possible moment... and then he suddenly flared his wings out and let the cackle pour from his throat. He didn't go low enough to be within striking distance of the mare but he was close enough that she'd be able to feel the rush of the air from his wings and hear his raucous laughter. As quickly as he had dived he was tearing upwards through the air again, head craning downwards to watch for her next move.

Deneb's heart leapt into her throat. The wind from his wings, sent chills down her spine and his laughter rang in her ears. She resisted the urge to scream and instead spun quickly and reared up lashing out with her hooves. She wouldn't go down with a fight. If this was her last night alive, she wouldn't shame herself going down begging and pleading for her life. She had more pride than that.
"Take me down if you can!" she screamed, unable to control all the raging emotions that surged through her body.

He caught her words on the wind that carried him upwards. What a feisty little mare she was! Xelloss was delighted. It would be such a satisfaction to beat her in this contest... and then do whatever he liked with that fiery spirit. He flew lower again, brushing over the tops of the trees. He was not so low that he was anywhere within distance to strike her, but he ws close enough that she would be able to hear him as he shouted down to her.
"Don't you just want to give up now?" he called derisively. "Save yourself the humiliation and give up!"

Deneb's ears flicked as she listened to stallion. Give up? Submit to him willingly? Never, she had to much pride for that. And to willingly submit to him like this would break something inside of her. Much rather it be taken from her in a fight, at least she'd feel better about herself in the end...at least she thought she would.
"Never!" she yelled back at him. She pranced and watched the sky, only catching glimpses of where he was.She braced herself for when he finally landed and closed in on her.

Xelloss watched Deneb calculatingly as he flew. She wasn't about to roll over and let him win. She was probably faster than he was on the ground which meant that he needed to stay aloft until the last possible moment. If he landed too soon then she'd dash away from him.
He flapped and calculated... and then he grew tired of waiting. Without another thought he dived. This time he aimed for a gap in the trees in front of her path. He could cut her off maybe, and then catch her! This time as he dived he didn't make a sound. He would certainly be visible if Deneb looked up, but he wasn't about to help her in locating him.

Deneb listened intently trying to figure out from where the male would possibly strike. Not hearing anything she began to tremble in fear. She tried to quickly decide which way to possibly dart and get away from him, at least for a little while. Unable to see or hear him hampered her greatly though and at the last minute she decided to charge forward, only to find Xelloss now swooping toward her.
She swore to herself and tried to wheel and go back the way she'd come, only to suddenly trip on her own feet and go tumbling towards the ground.

Xelloss slowed only at the very last moment. He banked sharply and then his hooves touched the forest floor. His momentum carried him immediately into a gallop. His time was now! He had seen Deneb pitch toward the ground. Her fleet footedness had failed her.
Using his wings to help sharpen his turn, Xelloss wheeled around to where he had seen the kirin fall. He was as fast as a shadow though knew that she would be faster if she was on her feet. If.
He ran forward with eyes wide and blazing. Was she still on the ground? Would he catch her?

Deneb hit the ground hard and the air rushed out of her body with a painful sounding whoosh. She quickly tried to regain her footing and get up, only to look up and find the Kalona barreling down on her.
She knew there was no chance she'd be able to get back up and get away this time. Her life seemed to flash before her eyes, as she was certain she was about to die.
And unable to control herself she let out a blood curdling scream.
