He had no idea how to interpret her missing burn scars. It was sort of terrifying to think about how or why they had disappeared. "Man, I don't know." Was all he could add in, while shaking his head. "As hard as it may be, you may never know the truth. That is the one sucky thing about life. Sometimes things happen and we'll never understand how or why." Calintha had been through so much and she was still very young in life. Now she'd surely be prepared for any hardships in the future.
As they got older, things would most definitely get more complicated and problematic. Cassius dreaded such everyday.
"Well, it looks like you enjoyed your ice cream as much as I did." He brought a happy grin back. "Though I'm not sure if you feel much better then before." He was hoping to give her some happiness for the moment but she had so much to deal with. He wasn't sure if he'd feel better either, even after ice cream.
"Maybe you should find a good distracting hobby or something." For example, Cassius gambled as an escape. Other people did art, sports and so on. "I know when I'm distracted it helps me vent off any problems?" he chuckled lightly while putting his hand through his hair. "As I warned before, I am so not an expert on many things." And he doubted he had helped Calintha, which was a bummer.

"That's true I suppose." Now that Calintha no longer had ice cream, she had a hard time figuring out what to do with her hands. She finally settled on fidgeting with the plain silver ring that had been on one of her fingers.
"The ice cream was fantastic! Thank you again." Cassius had certainly been a gift today. While being outside in a tree had been nice, nothing quite topped having ice cream with a total stranger and relating deep soul searching issues. "Ice cream makes everything better. I mean, my day would have been much worse without it." Marginally better was still better, no matter how marginal it was.
At the mention of a hobby, Calintha laughed softly. "I have one of those; a hobby I mean." If you could even call it a hobby anymore. "I've been gardening for as long as I can remember; my apartment is full of plants." It was more of an obsession at this point, Cali could not live in a world where she didn't have contact with plants.

"It was nice to sit here and I am thankful you wanted to come along and get to know me." he nodded warmly. "I also am glad you let me know so much about yourself. It's not often I meet someone inspirational." Even if Calintha didn't think so, she was amazing. Cassius couldn't believe how mature and well rounded she was considering her plagued feelings and dark past. She would move forward. Her personality was too strong not too.
He was thankful to hear that the ice cream at least made her day better. His too! "Gardening is a fine hobby. Definitely stick with it." Cassius didn't know the first thing about how to garden, but he did know it took up time. Anything time consuming would be good for her.
"Who knows, maybe you will meet other people and find out more about what happened. Or, you may not." He shook his head since he really didn't know if that would help or not. "Everything is uncertain, but that sort of reality keeps me going at least."

Calintha had to spare a giggle at being called inspirational. "I'm inspirational? I...don't think so" She smiled, still laughing. "Inspiration is for Mother Theresa, or Gandhi maybe. I'm just me." And that's all she would ever be- Calintha Johnson, student, botanist, girl.
"Uncertainty is interesting like that. It can keep you going or drive you mad. It depends on how much you are willing to give up control." She could be philosophical sometimes, she really could. It totally didn't matter that she re-worded a fortune cookie, right?
Absentmindedly she glanced outside. "Oh my, its getting late. I didn't think we'd talk until 5 o'clock." Calintha had a knack for telling the time based on the sky, the girl rarely ever needed a watch for anything. Keeping time, on the other hand, was challenging. "It was very nice talking to you Cassius, I certainly hope that I get to see you again sometime." She hoped that he would get her implied request for some kind of contact information. The last time she'd given her number to a boy it had been an embarrassing disaster, one that Calintha hoped to avoid.

Cassius didn't find those people to be inspirational, but he reframed from admitting so for sake of hurting her feelings. He found inspiration in the people he met himself- even if most would find that strange or unusual. Cassius couldn't believe in others that he never knew and it was an odd habit he formed as a child. He was too fond of personal relationships to look for anything else in people.
He nodded with her comment understanding what she meant all too well. There were definitely times when Cassius had lost control of many situations. Although lately he had been handling his life just fine, so he found no qualms with the future. Hopefully the same would be for Calintha soon.
It probably was late in the day but Cassius didn't mind. Although when he heard Calintha needed to leave, he dug around his pockets and brought out his fancy card. "If you need anything don't hesitate to call. There are always people there for you." He grinned and handed her his card gently. "And I enjoyed every moment as well."

"A card! Oh my, isn't that fancy?" She took the card, slowly looking over its ornate details. Maybe she should get cards, to avoid any further post-it-note mishaps. Calintha would have to look into it later, since she had to get home. It sounded dumb, but there were a few plants that needed tending too, and she'd promised herself that she would try a new recipe and maybe have a bubble bath tonight. All of those things took time, so Calintha had planned on being back from the park about an hour ago.
Not to say that she didn't enjoy every moment with the golden boy in front of her, nor did she regret the extra hour spent at the ice cream parlor. Calintha got up, and looked over at Cassius. "Thank you, for everything Cassius. Sunshine on a cloudy day." She smiled. "It really meant a lot, and I'm glad that you enjoyed my company." She retreated to the door at a normal pace, looking back as she opened it to wave and smile again at the boy. She felt kind of bad leaving him so abruptly, but at least she had his card! Calintha stuck it securely in her wallet, it would be a shame to loose his number.
